Kelleher is likely one of our greatest assets what other player could we sell for more money this summer?

Selling assets isn't the answer, no amount on selling assets can help rebuild our 1st team forget squad .

As yesterday showed FSG are bottom when it comes to spending which needs to change or else they need to sale.

It's impossible now to manage without changing our policy especially when you've financial market growing completely to the level which not seen before and clubs around us pumping money in their squad like never before.

Unfortunately if fsg stay we will have to sell kelleher. him and Jones are the 2 fringe players I feel could bring in decent money.25-30m for kelleher no problem and still think jones would fetch near 20m.
Would prefer to keep both (although realistically kelleher will want to go at this stage) but we will have to fund midfield rebuild.

Gomez will raise some cash, its an embarrassment that this is still having to happen, can't wait for them to sell up, had their time, 2019 was the decline in incomings where they set the tone.

@Lancaster, do you have any proof that it “is still having to happen”? When was the last time we had to sell someone to finance new signings? I’s say Coutinho about 5 years ago and can’t remember who it would have been prior to that.

WDW, come on mate let’s not be naive here.

It’s well documented that Liverpool bolster their transfer kitty by selling fringe players, or squad players in order to fund purchases. On the occasion a first team player leaves usually they are replaced almost instantly.

Liverpools financial room gives them a bit of leeway but when you look at the summer signings we almost broke even again with sales of fringe players and Mane.

Considering we've bought two left wingers and a forward for the thick end of £150m in 12 months, I think Jota will go. Should get most if not all of the £40m back.

Also as much as I personally rate the bloke, I suspect we wouldn't get £30m for Kelleher due to his lack of an extended first team run.

Most clubs sell fringe players or squad players to fund purchases?
Why wouldn't they?

A lot of you talk as though no one else has a say in our transfers.
Kelleher might want to go, play first team football and maybe earn more money. He might not want to leave so we can't sell him.
Caceido might not want to come here and Brighton might not want to sell to us in January.

I admire you trying to raise funds for the club but it's pointless.

MonkeyMad but let us also not exaggerate the idea that this is only LFC operating this way, it is also how 99% of clubs around the world operate bar the extreme few such as City, PSG etc. Even Chelsea consistently sell a large group of young/ fringe players every season, raising considerable sums. They sold Morata and Abraham for over £60m alone.
I don't really understand what people really expect the club to do, there are rules in place to ensure that clubs cannot spend considerably more than they make.

Stuie. All I'd want is for fsg to spend a bit more not considerably more. As klopp and club have proved we can compete at top on lesser spend but also proved we can't do it consistently.

Digger, I get that and that would be nice, but the posts on this page at the minute are a bit over the top. I do believe the club have made funds available, I also believe that either we simply can't sign who we want due to different reasons and/ or Klopp isn't spending it.

12.) 19 Jan 2023

I agree with you, Digger.
I'm sure we'd all like a few more players. A few better players, as well. I think we all know that we could spend more but is it that simple?
I want us to buy the right players but I don't know what the right players are. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes. I haven't the first clue about buying a player. All this talk about paying over the odds for Caceido in January. We don't know what his value is, if he wants to come or whether Brighton would even sell!
It's disrespectful to other clubs and players to think we can just go and get who we want, when we want them and for how much.
It's the same with selling our own players. If no clubs are interested in paying a fee for Ox then he has the right to his wages and look for another club when his contract is up.

Klopp has said there’s no more money available. That’s it. So we are skint.

As for selling to buy, it’s a small budget plus sales, we sold the following. Literally hand to mouth.

Sadio Mane – Bayern Munich – £35.1m
Neco Williams – Nottingham Forest – £17m
Takumi Minamino – Monaco – £15.5m
Ben Davies – Rangers – £4m

Total £71.6m

Then we spent.

Nunez (initial fee) of £64m ( there are add ons of about £20m)
Carvalho £7.7m
Ramsay £6.5m
Arthur (loan) £4m

£82.2m

I’d say that Gakpo was signed from what was remaining of the summer budget and there is no more left until further sales and next summer, which will be £50m at most plus sales. There’s absolutely no reason to think Bellingham will sign as we don’t have the funds and I don’t think we are an attractive proposition to top players at the moment and under our current owners, to think differently is ignoring material fact. It’ll be nunez from Wolves and maybe one other, or a contract renewal for Keita and Milner and Nunez.

Yeah Stuie im not oblivious to the fact that 99% of clubs operate that way.

FFP is in place. Although the rules have been relaxed.

The frustration lies that Liverpool are one of the financial big hitters, 3rd on the globe behind a sportwashing project with false sponsors and Madrid, who are a giant and yet spend money like a midtable team. Im not naive in thinking Liverpool don’t spend money at all, they obviously do, but they’ve spent less than all of the big 6 in the last 4 years or so despite consistently earning higher amounts of money than the majority of them.

The fact of the matter is that FSG are competent owners but are unwilling to invest in the club in any meaningful manner. Their non interest loans are helpful and it’s commendable that dividend payments are minimal. They can be applauded for the job they’ve done, sound decision making (apart from certain times) and careful management of the club has proven effective.

The caveat is, with other top teams spending ludicrous amounts of money and Liverpools team approaching the ‘end of its shelf life’ in certain departments there is a very real need for some significant investment. Something FSG are unwilling to do unless the money comes from the club.

We literally just about made back what we bought in the summer, like every summer, tell me after winning the CL in 2019 what massive forward thinking side wouldn't take advantage and sign top class players, we ended up with Van Den Berg and someone else, the ambition was crazy, stop being happy with mediocre, blood sucking leaches running the club, they know for a fact they can't compete with any of the top 10, not even top 4, its that bad that top 10 are above the means of our owners, they are turning into a shambles an need to go asap, im hoping that protest will soon start at Anfield.

{Ed002's Note - So it is Klopp that needs to go then? The owners do not pick the players.}
