The problem is Klopp, Ljinders and the coaching staff effed up before the season began. Panicked after the season started and never recovered.

They got a pass because of recent history but they will not be so lucky next season.

We can blame FSG all we want for lack of transfer activity, but If Klopp is really telling them he doesn’t need players, then the buck stops with him.

The lack of motivation and cohesion this season is a management problem.

If we start next season with Trent as an inverted RB, then we won’t make Champions League. Mark my words. Regardless of who we recruit in the summer (not Mount, nor Mac Allister btw)

No one’s ever explained Klopps “I’d like the owners to take more risks” comment.

If Klopp is turning down funds to bring in top players then he is more stubborn than me.

Love the positivity this site shares
Actually stopped telling people about it and asking them to check it themselves
We support the best club in the world yet we bitch about it at any given chance
Our time is coming and I’m riding the wave before it happens
Be positive all and the best will come.

Of course they messed up. But they also messed up in January not grabbing a midfielder too.
We’d have easily got top 4, easily !

I think it’s Jurgans most important Transfer Window ever. Probably why they’ve drafted in this DOF just for it.
Let’s see if we can fix this, because our points total compared to last season is worrying.

"We could have got top 4 easily" - LFC8.

In the last 18 games:

City - 39 points
Liverpool - 37 points
Newcastle - 32 points
Brighton - 32 points
Arsenal - 31 points
Man Utd - 30 points (albeit may be 33 after their game tonight)

It's not the second half of the season that's been the problem, its sitting on 29 points after 19 games that has been the issue.

I feel your pain and frustration LFC8, but we've had a stormer of a second half of the season, at least in terms of our points return.

Buying Gakpo in the January window when we clearly needed a true midfielder and knew that Jota and Diaz were due back was probably the dumbest move. I know he's scored a few goals but it's disrupted Nunez' development in the team (and he would probably have scored the same number of goals TBH) . Odd move for me.

City got 47 points in the last 18 games.

Those moaning about Klopp and Ljinders and advocating getting rid of them will be the ones howling the loudest in a few years if that was allowed to happen.
The recent success of this club is entirely because of Klopp, not despite him.
Remember when you're busy pointing out what you perceive as mistakes you are saying "I know better". Fans convince themselves they know better - they really don't.
So many take themselves so seriously and forget what the site is meant to be about.

good point thomas, was looking at Arsenal after 19 and they had 50, City had 42.

Those numbers are a bit skewed though Zed. We actually have 23 points in our last 9 games. Which means we only took 14 points from the first 9 games in that 18 game run you mention. Which is an almost identical points to game ratio as 29 from the first 19 games (1.55 to 1.52).

We haven't had a storming 2nd half of the season. We've had a storming last quarter.

Had we not ballsed up the signing of Amrabat there is every chance we might have won more points in between January and Trent going into midfield against Arsenal 9 games ago. At least enough to maybe still have it in our hands going into the final day. I think LiverpoolFC8 is correct. The club as a collective (the players, Klopp, Lijnders, Ward, Fallows etc) have failed this season. Top 4 was easily achievable. Spurs and Chelsea had torrid seasons. United and Newcastle are scraping in ahead of us despite us only showing up for the last 10 games. It was there for the taking and we repeatedly failed to capitalise until it was too late.

Yes we need investment but we can’t keep blaming the owners and midfield - losing to Leeds, Bournemouth, Brentford, Forest, wolves, drawing with Everton, palace and Fulham is the reason we won’t achieve CL footie next season.

It’s my good beating Newcastle twice and United 7-O is we can’t beat bottom half and relegation fodder teams.

Period.

Good post Zed and great reply Mk.

I was actually sat here head scratching thinking the 2nd half of the season was actually pretty good then when memory from after the world cup and Jan seemed like we were poor.

In fairness we’ve had quite a few good and bad results in the 2nd half of the season and a brilliant last 9 game run.

You could count the amount of posts advocating for Klopp out today on Jeremy Beadles hand.

Little hands still have 5 fingers, JK ;-)

Yes, you make a good point MK, JK sums it up "we’ve had quite a few good and bad results in the 2nd half of the season and a brilliant last 9 game run"

Zed that’s what I mean. 5 people have obviously advocated it.

As a child I was more concerned with Scholfields hands than I was Beadles.

I find it amazing that some on here are crying out for Trent to play midfield and not seeing that the inverted fullback works. We’ve won 8 of the last 9 playing this way why on earth do you want to change it?

There are still teething problems yes but it has been getting better each week and with a full preseason to coach it I think we can iron out the problems.

It has vulnerabilities but name me a system that doesn’t!

Moving Trent into midfield is the last thing we should be looking to do!

As long as Jim didn't fix it for you, JK, it's all good!

Zed ? I still can’t fathom these posts have actually sneaked through.

Fair point Zed. It was Great turning it on towards the end but let’s face it, we went on that Run after all the Pressure was off and the season was Dead.
As Soon as Vini scored at Anfield our season ended right there

We can’t make those same mistakes again, we need 3 midfielders minimum, 4 would be nice.
And at least 1 Top Centre Back
Then I believe we see the best of Liverpool again, we see the best of the players we already have, And even the likes of Fabinho etc will be elite again because the Load is shared and game time managed.

And on another note, The wifi here in Hell is great, so are the acoustics for my DidgeryDoo.

Love it JK and LFC8 - I share the joy that these have snuck through!

I agree that we have to hit 23/ 24 HARD LFC8, albeit I don't think we need so many midfielders, we just need the right ones.

I would argue that Bajcetic has had a breakthrough season, Jones seems to finally be learning the CM position (remember he was a LW throughout his youth career) and we have other youth players who have had successful loans to look at in pre season too.

I'm not convinced that Trent's future shouldn't be in midfield. There was a post earlier (I forget who) that said that we should continue with Trent stepping up and therefore we can't consider him as a midfielder, but I disagree. I'd love to see Klopp play him as a Xabi-esque DLP and see how he adapts in pre-season.

There's still a very small part of me (simmer down Jim, Tim and Rolf) that hopes that we will pull a rabbit out of the bag for Bellingham, as well as Mac Allister. I think with the right midfielders - if not Bellingham then maybe Thuram - we only need 2.

Then buy Gvardiol!

20.) 25 May 2023
25 May 2023 19:06:26
Absolutely Zed. If Bellingham is one of the midfielders then I’ll throw us a Party! A pool party.
At Michael Barrymores.

LiverpoolFC8 ??? I’ll be the lifeguard.

Klopp should have bought a decent midfielder and was a clear error of judgement. I also think FSG have been coasting last few years given high levels of success. You need to spend to stay at the top, and yet again we’ve not learned that valuable lesson. I maintain my view, if they won’t provide funds to allow us to compete for the title they should sell to an owner who will.

Jeez Zed, MacAllister, Bellingham and Gvardiol would be amazing - think we'd all be at that pool party ???.
