If the reports stating we're settling for 2 midfielders coming in are true, I'd be very interested to see us in the games where Klopp dabbles with a front 4. Ox, Shaqiri and Jota have all been utilised previously by Klopp, behind a more traditional front 3, to give us that attacking overload. MacAllister has looked at his best in my opinion when in a 2 man midfield alongside Caicedo so if we could get a player in his mould (Koné, Thuram maybe) then we could possibly replicate that and maybe use Jota, Jones or Gakpo as a number 10. It's quite fluid when Trent goes into midfield anyway, but just getting an extra goalscorer on the pitch would be interesting to see; particularly with a more mobile midfield behind them. I'm looking at the games against Man City with the most anticipation. Ox was probably the most successful in the "Fab 4" system before his injury and I believe that was because of his ability to take a shot on from distance. Gakpo certainly has that same kind of technique; no back lift, powerful and precise shooting. Ox tore City apart in that role. I remember him scoring 2 absolute screamers from outside the box against them. I think Gakpo has that in his locker and maybe if we only signed 2 midfielders it's something we could see more often that also gets Nunez back in the side as an out and out number 9.

If Klopp is settling for 2 midfielders then he is settling for Europa league finish again. The club needs three starters. Fabinho and Hendo shouldn’t start in 23/ 24 campaign.
You can’t substitute a forward to replace a midfielder. It’s dumb.

The number of midfielders we need all depends on where Trent is going to play long term. If Klopp keep the hybrid then I think we need 3 midfielders. Trent permanently into midfield then only 2 needed this window.

I'm not sure this is entirely accurate. The most reliable journalists out there (including Liverpool briefed journos) have consistently been saying that AT-LEAST two midfielders are arriving with the majority stating Liverpool are looking for a minimum of three midfielders. They've also stated AT-LEAST one defensive incoming with a possibility for more.

Fabrizio has been on the money of late with Liverpool and has stated he expects three midfielders, one CB and potentially a fullback.

Paul Joyce has stated a minimum of two midfielders with Klopp further looking at defensive signings.

The most reliable French Journo for L'equipe has stated a minimum of three midfielders.

I think for the first time in a fair few years we might be in for a very busy transfer window. Let's see. Just have faith in the recruitment team. They have a very good hit rate in general (apart from last summer) and I expect that to continue.

3 plus Bajcetic, Elliot and Jones for me is perfect. Hendo to provide the Milner role ( although personally I would be tempted to let him leave) .
Not sure where 3 midfielders leaves Thiago though.

If Trent goes into midfield permanently then we may only need 2 mid's to come in as in a DM (Kone) or Thuram (a B2B who can also play deep as a DM) with one CB. We may get another midfielder in should say Thiago decides to leave.

If Trent stays at FB or inverted then, we could need 3 at the most coming in. Just my take.

The midfielders should be, Trent, Hendo, Jones, bajetic and 2 signings .

Fab and Thiago should go

As should the hybrid role, keep it in the locker but it shouldn’t be relied upon

Elliot is not a midfielder, he’s a forward.

Our starting midfield for the 1st game will be Henderson
Fabinho and Jones . Klopp will go back to what suits him best and take time to blood the new boys in of this I’m sure . I can see Trent continuing this inverted full back role t
Rather than a full switch to midfield my only worry with this is when Trent isn’t playing (injuries) no one can do that role so the team will have to switch formation most likely 4-3-3

So for this reason I would love klopp to just put all his eggs in the Trent to midfield basket and sign a quality right full back allowing the teams tactics and shape to stay the same regardless of personnel. Continuity.

Doesn’t the number coming in depend on how many we have currently? Last I checked we had Thiago, Fabinho, Hendo, Jones, Elliot and Bacjetic. It doesn’t make sense adding 3 starting calibre midfielders to that group unless we’re also moving others on and there is no indication that we are

We’ve done the over sized squad on bloated salaries already.
