Just a point on people talking about Trent adapting to 'international level' how are we still running the myth that international football is the highest level? Those days are well gone

Put Man City up against the Argentina that won the World Cup and it would be their easiest game all season, they'd be 5-0 up by half time. In fact, the game would never even happen. The best international sides in the world wouldn't get out of a Champions League group stage.

What makes it more funny is it was against Malta….

Thomas194, I have no idea. I think people use this myth in a bid to uplift the players they favor and take down the player they don't like. Look at Maguire, for ex. Every man and his dog knows he is crap and has been crap for a long time. Now Southgate's allies in the media will come out to defend him for picking Maguire every time by saying, "Well, Maguire has been brilliant for England internationally and was one of the best CB's at the Euros" or some crap like that.

By doing this, they have given Southgate and Maguire a pass for being crap and getting special treatment from a standard Southgate claims he uses to pick players as in, being picked and performing regularly for their clubs. Not sure that standard applies to Trent, for ex.

Agree Oli, also helps that Maguire has played most of his England games in a back 5 with two defensive midfielders. Up against the world-class striking talent of Kieffer Moore, Roman Yaremchuk and Marcus Berg. Even then he's hardly looked above average.

5 nil up by half time. talking daft. You saying france or Argentina wouldn't get out of a group that say had rangers, rb leipzig, ac Milan in it. Talking nonsense. Maybe not England but they aren't a top international team anyway.

Exactly, Thomas194. You have cracked the code. This is how media propaganda works in English football. It's all about who you want to elevate and who you want to tear down by using the same logic.

The standards (or lack there of) used to measure Maguire is not the same thing used to measure Trent. They say Trent is a liability defensively so can't play for England YET we have the defensive gurus named Harry Maguire, Eric Dier and Luke Shaw who are absolutely wretched defensively for their clubs and Dier is the worst of the 3 imo and that same standard does not apply and in fact, gets amended to protect them hence, protect Southgate for picking them often.

They will say all 3 players were great for England at the Euros (2 yrs ago, btw) or were great in their last games vs world beaters of Malta and San Marino. See how easy that was to jutify the absurd?

International and club teams can not be compared. The former can only be coached a few days every few months. The latter can develop tactics every day. Stop comparing.

Also you don’t get many premier league games against quality opposition of San Marino, Malta, Macedonia etc.

Trent has shown his quality for about 6 years at the highest level though.

Right, right, correct absolutely. And teams like San Marino, Malta and Macedonia play with like 8 or 9 players (that's all that they can put together, the poor souls), so the games shouldn't even count.

Does anyone ever notice the obnoxious arrogance dripping on these pages at certain times? ?.

Your name is not mentioned JK, and you know that if I want to address someone specifically, I mention the name.

Aray no worries I only caught a glimpse of it as I was in and out of meetings all day and thought I’d ask.

Wasn’t sure if my post had been misconstrued ?.

JK, the thing is this. TAA, can play poorly for Liverpool against a Southampton, Leeds, Leicester or other bottom table team and people say "that's the high level of the EPL, the best league in the World". He plays well against Malta and Macedonia (for England) and people want to disregard the performance because of the opponent.

Is it only me that sees the irony and arrogance? ?.

Aray get what you’re saying and I agree.

My reply was in terms of you can’t compare the Premier league with international full stop as for me it’s a massively uneven playing field as some teams are full of top class players and others are full of players who also hold full time jobs.

These players must love getting the opportunity to play against the best players in world football but is it really good for their football development on an international stage.

I don’t watch international football whether England are playing against San Marino or France but I want all LFC players to do well on international duty regardless of who they are playing.

It’s just not my cup of tea and to be honest I would have no idea where I would find time to watch games outside of Liverpool.

This is exactly the point. Trent proved his quality with big performances in Champions League knockout games and crucial premier league games. He’s been proving himself for years.

It’s a bit like the old adage about ‘faith’ ….

If you have faith no reasons are required, if you don’t have faith then no reason is ever enough.
