Great read, Ed. I agree with a large majority of what you have posted regarding Rodri and how great of a player he is and you are right, he is the typical Pep DM a bit like Busquets in his pump. Big, tall technically sound, goor passing range with a bit less mobility even tho, Rodri is a lot more physical than Busquets, IMO.

My only tick with Rodri is that he seems to be getting a lot of credit as being the best DM on the planet despite having so many other mid's around him like Bernardo, Gundogan (when he was there) and Stones or Akanji whenever they invert. I think this allows him the freedom to get forward and not have to worry about getting caught out esp. if he can't foul the opposition on the break. Fernandinho dd not have that luxury and often played the DM role on his own. Neither did Fabinho with us, IMO. Just my take.

{Ed001's Note - Rodri has a lot more mobility than Busquets mate. Busquets could barely run. He was a ridiculously overrated player. He was just lucky to be playing behind great players, he was in no way a great himself. Just like Casemiro, it is easy to be a DM for Barca or Madrid as they are rarely actually ever asked to defend, so they look far better than they actually are.}

Ed, how would you rate Rodri in regards to Cambiasso of RM in his prime?

{Ed001's Note - Cambiasso was never really a DM in the same vein. Not really a comparison to be honest. Cambiasso was much more of a forward thinker and would get forward much more. He was more of a box-to-box midfielder.}

Sorry Ed0001 but Sergio Busquets changed the way his position was played, his ability on the ball and positioning was unmatched, tremendous player he was, xavi and iniesta who played in front of him have said so because defensively both did next to zero and Segio covered well, his weakness was pace and mobility but he made up with his reading of the game and high footbal IQ.
He was a beast, xavi, iniesta, guardiola, even Mourinho have said so. Barça kept him for longer than they should as his ability decreased with age but he was a beast.

{Ed001's Note - that is utter nonsense. They did not do next to zero defensively, they used a high press and those two were key to it. I don't care who said what, imo he was not that good and he was only able to play the role due to the cheating referees that Barca bought off so he could foul with impunity and break up counters.}

"Sorry Ed0001 but Sergio Busquets changed the way his position was played. ".

Okay so pls, let's not get carried away here, bro. Busquets was great player in the way Pep set up the team and as Ed01 said, it is easy to play the DM role at Barcelona or RM with Casemiro due to the system they play and the great players around them.

Not sure either of those players would get would get it done the way Fabinho and Rodri are were or are doing it now for Liverpool and Man City respectively, IMO.

@Ed01, I can see your thinking especially with the context you provided regarding the way Busquets played in the Pep setup at Barcelona esp. in a league where Barcelona were getting a ton of fav. calls.

Don't get me wrong, Rodri is a great player and even tho, he lacks mobility the way say a Fabinho had in his pump, he is boss. If I had to pick btw Fabinho (in his pump), Rodri, Casemiro and Busquets for LFC, the last two wouldn't get a look-in, for sure. Thanks for all you do, mate.

{Ed001's Note - I loved Fabs but I would have to choose Rodri over him.}

Fair enuff, bro.

Oh, I just found your podcast on Youtube and I am listening to it LIVE and direct, mate.

Like you said, Everton will get their points deduction as soon as they hit 13 points. Wouldn't put it past the PL/ FA, lol.

{Ed001's Note - nice one thanks.}

The FA have a decision to make. Charge Everton and deduct points in the knowledge they ought to do the same and more to Manchester City. Or, more likely, drop charges against Everton, so they don’t put themselves in the uncomfortable position of having to do the same to City. However, it is likely they will charge Everton and let City off scot free. This would be also the most stupid option, as it would show them up as the corrupt bottlers they actually are.

Rodri literally has to commit 9 fouls to get a yellow card. Seems to me that he's the one getting the favourable calls.

Fabinho was the best DM in the world for 2/ 3 years. Peak Fabinho over rodri all day, every day.

Finally found someone else that thought Busquets was overrated. I honestly think if he was taken out of the Barcelona system, away from Xavi, Iniesta and Messi and he looks pretty average. Fabinho was a good player and did well for us, stick him in that Barcelona team and he looks a world beater.

Busquets couldn't play in a Klopp system, end of. Fab could play in the Pep system at Barcelona with no issues up, IMO.

Busquets was very overrated. He did nothing well at all but rarely did anything bad. He didn't revolutionise the position like dunga, sounness or albertini did.

His passing was the weakest in his midfield, he pressed less than both his other midfielders and his tackling was awful. Ed is right here he benefited from playing in a Barcelona side which rarlely lost the ball and so he rarely had much to do.

I can name maybe 20 players better on that position in the same time frame.

Nevada.

How do you rate Busquets if he didn't really play for anyone else but Barca? By the 140 plus caps playing for Spain?
Maybe he wasn't that good or maybe he made the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso and Messi etc play better.
I don't really know because I didn't pick him but I do note what those that did pick him and play with him thought.
