Ornstein now reporting tonight that Henderson is leaning towards accepting Al Ettifaq's contract offer. Gerrard is driving the deal.

I would be gobsmacked if this happens. I honestly thought Hendo was above forsaking his morals in the name of greed. I'd do the same in his shoes to be clear, I just thought he was a better man than me! ?.

He is being offered £700k a week and no tax out there. That’s CRAZY money for him and his family. Many will say way would he go well £700k reasons why. I think he will go and I wish him all the best if he does. Been a fantastic captain and gave it his all on and off the pitch since day one.

13 Jul 2023 00:04:36
I heard the £700k wages too. There is not a player in the prem who would turn down that and tax free. Good luck to him if he goes. Been a brilliant captain and he seems a decent human being.

Hendo has been an exemplary professional both on and off the field during his tenure at Liverpool. If he decides to go so be it. He has every right to go on his terms! Personally I'd like him to stay as I'm of the opinion that young players learning from him day in and day out will benefit the club hand over foot down the road.

Heard Harry Kane is following hendo after the support on here.

Agree absolutely 100% with @MK. I’ll always be disappointed that people would be willing to ‘take the money and run’ right up to the point when somebody offered me £ 700k a week tax free.

Good luck to the lad - he was being shoved out the door to Fulham but he stood his ground to prove he could make it at Liverpool and he did. He doesn’t owe anybody anything and if he has an opportunity to secure the financial future for his family then ‘go for it’, as I say, I would.

Hot molten lavia please, let's evolve and jib the sentimental bullshiznits.

8.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 01:09:21
Geez. I can't get behind this move. I think it would be a mistake by us and hendo. Hope it doesn't come off.

9.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 02:55:39
More power to Hendo for bagging that deal, if the numbers are true, but not sure I follow the whole 'tax free' narrative. He is a British citizen, so I am guessing the UK tax laws will require him to declare that as income and tax him, unless there is an accountant here who knows about UK tax laws for citizens working overseas.

10.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 04:11:53
It is easy to criticize him and call him a man with no morals but he's almost at the end of his playing career and this move could be his last chance to get a big pay. If Liverpool offered him 500k/ week I'm sure he'll choose to stay but the reality is the wage difference is too huge to ignore. Also, he's just doing his job as a footballer and he's not causing any harm to anyone. If you look at it another way, we'll have to let him leave on a free soon anyway. Why not let him go when we can still get something out of it.

11.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 04:30:10
Would be a big chance to take from lfc point of view to lose milner+hendo in the 1 window. Not so much on the field but off it,2 v good leaders who keep things right in dressing room. easily underestimated that role but if u don't have good dressing room as a starting point your in trouble.

12.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 05:42:45
Let’s not criticise Hendo to much if he does take it. He’s earned the right to choose how he ends his career. Easy to take the ‘moral’ high ground when none of us will ever be in a position where we are offered that amount of money but be honest with yourselves. Anyone of us would take it. It would be insanity not to.

13.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 05:46:49
So if a player leaves another league to play for Liverpool and gets a big pay rise are they forsaking their morals too? Seems like double standards when we ask players from around the world to leave their families, and home teams to come to EPL and increase their wages in the process, but when player leave here for elsewhere we question their morality.

14.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 06:19:00
I think there'd be a real lack of leadership if he went. Losing the experience of him and Milner in one summer could hurt us.

15.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 06:31:57
Get Stevie G to offer soft money for Hendo, Gala to pay £25~30m for Thiago, £10m for Nat and buy Gvardiol. Won’t happen - embarrassing to even say it - but being a fan of the club, one can dream.

16.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 06:46:27
Though I agree losing Hendo and Milner would be hard and I hated seeing Milner go, the same if Hendo leaves, we still have plenty of leaders and influential players in the dressing room. Adrian, Allison, VVD, Robertson, Fabinho, Salah, now the Hungary captain and Argentina World cup winner. Money talks and who out of any of us would turn down that sort of money.
Employer - We will give you a wage £700k to come here.
Me - Bye everyone (with bags packed)

{Ed001's Note - would you even bother to pack bags when you could afford to buy all new stuff out there?}

13 Jul 2023 07:21:11
If I got offered 700k a week I’d be off in a shot and I wouldn’t hold it against Henderson . goes down as a anfield great and a great captain always welcome at the club and in this city. Il be honest il be suprised if it happens but we’ve lost better players than hendo and been ok .
I’d be more willing to give Trent the captaincy over vvd.

18.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 07:32:17
700k is generational wealth and absolute no brainer. If someone offered me that I wouldn't ask where to sign I'd already be on the plane quicker then you can say no morals.

I hope he doesn't go as that is a huge leadership void, but if he does I definitely won't be questioning his decision.

19.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 07:32:18
£36.4m a year, who on here would seriously turn that down? There’s loyalty and then there’s stupidity, if you were to turn that down you’re in the latter ?

(That is based on a 52 week year, not sure if footballers are paid like that? )

20.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 07:35:32
The £700k will be tax free. Any old sailors will tell you they got out of UK waters asap so they could claim a tax free day. Once knew someone who worked at the American Embassy in Frankfurt and he tried to pay tax in each of the 3 countries but none would take any.

21.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 07:37:47
He is leaving for money just like every other player. Let’s not sugar coat it! I am happy for him.

All this based on a rumour.

Football is a brutal business. If Hendo had a few poor games then there would be voices raised calling for him to be dropped or sold.

If Hendo is offered a life changing contract then he may well decide to go. That is his decision to make.

At the end of the day we will all have our memories but time moves on and there is little sentiment in professional sport.

Whatever happens Hendo should have his place at LFC as a great captain and an integral member of a great Klopp side.

I think this whole Saudi thing with high-profile names like Gerrard and Ronaldo and others is abhorrent; if they are role models then what message are they sending by accepting this Faustian pact? The hypocrisy is staggering, on one hand they are happy to sign up to the Kick It Out campaign and on the other to accept ever more obscene amounts of money, when they already have vulgar amounts of money, from a country that bans free speech, bans protest, tortures and executes opponents, discriminates against LGBTQ community, discriminates against women and girls, abuses and exploits migrant workers ‘etc, ’ ‘etc. ’.

@Flash
Dominik Szoboszlai news broke out in internet first. This page had no clue on that transfer!

26.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 08:49:28
Doesn't make sense to me. Al-effitaq aren't one of the clubs the Saudi PIF invested in, and their most prominent player is Qaison, a Swedish international who was decent in Germany.

Bit of jump from there to making Hendo into the 4th or 5th highest paid player in world football. Idk am I being naive here?

27.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 09:28:28
This Hendo banter shouldn't be a moral one about obscene wages - that went out the window 30 years ago when the EPL started and all that Anglo-American private equity funding flowed in creating obscene wages.

This should be about what remains in the club.

Will we have enough senior leadership left to guide the youngsters and drive the new recruits during the tough periods of the upcoming season?

I'm interested in what people here think about that.

Take the money brother. most fans want you gone anyways, why hang around for morals and loyalty when a large chunk of the fan base ain't loyal to you?

Take the money and enjoy the rest of your career.

Are the wages really tax free? ?.

I’m sick and tired of this Saudi money nonsense and the blatant hypocrisy around it. The FA and the entire England team made it very clear they wanted Kane to wear the rainbow armband, but when it became apparent that he would get yellow carded, they change their minds, they didn’t want to risk a potential match ban due to totting up. That’s just one example, there are many others. I wish hendo ALL THE BEST for the future. He’s been a great servant, great captain and epitomised everything that our club stands for. As previously mentioned, the club was ready to get rid of him and sell him to Fulham, but he stayed and fought for his position. If he wants to go let him, that’s football. I don’t blame any club or player for doing what is right for them. If you are anti Saudi money and you watched any game at the World Cup you’re just as hypocritical.

32.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 13:48:01
Saudis
Americans
Russians

Let’s be honest on here people the fact these people have so much money and how they accrued it is of little to no interest to us
I just want Liverpool to be the best they can be
If we accept money from Saudi and I’m happy with that does that mean I support the Saudi way and the lack of human rights no of course not
Same goes for Russia America anywhere in the world .
If football was based on morals Man City would probably be non league right now that champions league winners . So let’s not get drawn in to countries morals etc and get our knickers in a twist over something we have no control over .

If this happens I’ll really miss the Hendo shuffle. I do it every time I give the Mrs a cup of tea!

But he’s at the back end of his career and £700k a week for a couple of years sorts out his retirement for the rest of his life!

I’d hate to lose him he’s been brilliant for us and would continue to be a fantastic role model for the kids and the new players but how could anyone possibly begrudge him taking the ridiculous money on offer?

But if he does sign for them and say he’s supported them all his life and had Al Ettifaq posters on his wall as a kid I’ll take all of that back! :-)
