Saw this a. m. in transfer gossip, I know most of that is rubbish but it mentioned spurs interest in lallana 20m and hammers interest in Benteke 25m, if either of those were true I would snap their hands off, what you reckon eds?

Brendan F

{Ed001's Note - I would defo take the money for Benteke, Lallana would depend on the options available to replace him.}

1.) 10 May 2016 21:11:05
Do you know if these rumours are true or not ed001?

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - there is Benteke interest from the Hammers, but it is unlikely to happen unless they can offload Carroll. No idea on the Lallana one as of yet sorry.}

2.) 10 May 2016 21:32:18
Carroll and Benteke well the could be a dealy duo . headers for days.

Gotta say I have been pleasantly surprised by origi this year after reading about him on la ligue worst team of 2014-2015 etc I thought we had bought another plug. If he can learn from studges movement and hone his finishing we have a great prospect on our hands. If him and ings had stayed fit in sturridges absence I reckon we would have rattled top 4. Firmino IMO has also impressed I don't think we need to sign any attacking players in summer. A decent goalie with grujic and matip would be enough for me. Obviously get rid of 5-6 players.

Divock has done really well, really chuffed for the lad. His interview after the Saints mauling was very heartening. Seems like a humble, hard working, down to earth lad
Completely unlike Balotelli or El Haji Diouf. I really hope he makes it, still a young pup but a mature head.

2.) 15 Feb 2016 23:57:45
Benteke would currently be in the EPL worst team this year - not because he lacks talent, he is just not suited to the style and team around him.

Origi may well have been poor last season. I don't know as I don't watch French footy. Regardless, he has taken this season as an opportunity for a fresh start and as Ron said - mature head on him. Full credit.

3.) 16 Feb 2016 00:06:24
Origi has impressed mostly with his ability to learn very quickly and hit the ground running. I thought he would need a lot more time but that perfect hatrick vs Saints ended that for me and his neat finish after coming in cold yesterday off the bench is another sign that the only way for him is up. His pace is deadly and with players like Studge, Couts and Firmino who are just brilliant, he will defo improve. Ings fits my overall opinion of Origi as well.

4.) 16 Feb 2016 00:31:58
Origi reminds me of young Kluivert, if anyone still remembers.

5.) 16 Feb 2016 06:32:18
Origi looks like a good squad player to me - and I mean that as no disrespect - but we have yet to see him change the course of a game this season with his goals. He has scored when the team is playing well and scoring - if he starts to bang in important goals then I'll alter my opinion but honestly, as much as I admire the lads work ethic and willingness to learn, he doesn't look more than a squad player to me (albeit a good squad player) .

6.) 16 Feb 2016 07:01:54
Origi at present is the new version of Welbeck. Agree with Seano. He has scored goals when the team is already winning. Pedro for example.

7.) 16 Feb 2016 07:22:20
Agree Seano, but IMO he's best viewed as a squad player for now mostly because he's young and still learning - has the potential to be so much more.

What's impressed me the most recently has been his movement, timing of his runs and pace. Much better positioning, good first touch and subtle movements to create space.

The goal against Villa he made the run early, showed good acceleration and good awareness to cut across the defender so he couldn't tackle him. Earlier in the year he might have been a bit more hesitant and given them a chance to slide tackle or to push him out wide.

8.) 16 Feb 2016 09:27:47
West brom equaliser anyone, where Origi saved us from going down at home. Showed great heart and desire to win.

9.) 16 Feb 2016 16:05:46
Fair play Ron that had honestly slipped my mind - and if I remember rightly he was excellent when he was brought on in that game: direct and full of energy. I still see him as a squad player but a good squad player and certainly one worth keeping hold of.

10.) 16 Feb 2016 16:30:47
remember the klopp quote "we can have fun with this player" now the hype has died down origi can progress at his own pace, plenty for him to improve on but has shown the hunger and desire we need from our players! don't think he will be jumping in the crowd any time soon though!

Lots and lots of bs being sprouted about soccer and the EPL on these pages and in the media in general. If anyone wants honesty of effort and love of the Jersey I would suggest supporting local amateur teams. I am from Ireland and for me that means the gaa. I have accepted that soccer and all thatggoes with it has long since.

Eds one question Is there any chance of ward starting tomorrow in your opinion?

Brendan F

{Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely.}

1.) 16 Jan 2016 20:38:38
Its a tough one as migonlet is under srutiny and bogdan. Ward could either have a cracking game and push on from there or having a clanger and could stop his progress! To big and important game to start tomorrow.

2.) 16 Jan 2016 21:50:38
Then how bad does migs have to get before he starts and how is sitting on the bench going to help him progress?

3.) 16 Jan 2016 23:19:55
Ward should not come into a game like this. I wish he could start the Exeter game tbh would be perfect to bring him in the cup competitions apart from maybe league cup. I say that because he is untested as a Liverpool goalkeeper and he could have back to back poor performances and then everyone looks like a fool again. I think if he's baby stepped into the team he could make an impact. I wish he could be our long term solution but it's unlikely, if we are being realistic. Let's hope ward gets his chance and proves me wrong.

4.) 16 Jan 2016 23:33:45
Ward will probably get his first chance either against Stoke or Exeter.

5.) 17 Jan 2016 00:02:30
Best hope is that Ward plays against Stoke and has a blinder making him undroppable.

6.) 17 Jan 2016 00:09:50
He can't play against Exeter.

7.) 17 Jan 2016 03:23:18
How bad does Mignolet have to be before he gets sol, should be the real question.

8.) 17 Jan 2016 07:42:28
How do you baby step ward into the team. The 2nd leg of the capital one semi is arguably as big a game as today. He is sharp having played all season with Aberdeen his confidence should be high after performing very well. Also he is 23 not exactly a baby, Milan have a 16 year old gk if I am not mistaken.

9.) 17 Jan 2016 12:36:48
Have to agree Brendan, although that just dosnt sound right lol, he isn't one to be eased in as such, apart from spending some time with the lads in training and getting to know each other a bit better it's about putting him in goal no matter who it is. We know to an extant what he is capable of, he has shown that at Aberdeen, the boy just needs Klopps backing and we will find out where he is at, surely can't be worse than what we have had so I don't see it being a huge risk. Starting him today at Anfield against the mancs with the crowd in full voice is the best way for him to start.

10.) 17 Jan 2016 14:27:29
Just out of interest why can't Ward play against Exeter?

11.) 17 Jan 2016 21:54:36
It's a replay and ward wasn't registered in time to play in the original fixture, I think!

09 Jan 2016 19:38:03
Do you think smith and moreno could play on same team Ed lb and left mid? The balance of team is wrong at the moment. We haven't had a good left mid ssince John Barnes. Glad klopp has said we will play much the same team in replay.

Brendan F

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, though I would only do that if the team had a few youngsters in it personally. Otherwise I would rather see the likes of Ojo, Kent or Ibe at left mid.}

1.) 10 Jan 2016 11:31:44
I think seeing as both are attacking minded, it might help a bit, as they are more capable at defending than a natural winger, so covering would be better. However they may be inclined to make similar runs, but personally (for big games) I'd like to see smith left back, as he's better in the air, better crossing and Moreno left mid, as he's more suited to running inside too, is fit so can help with the press and can cover smith if he goes forward.

That was exactly what I thought about Europa league collapse, the players who went missing Lallana et al were Rodgers players no steel no balls. I believe Klopp will sign players with character and a will to win (like himself) . That winning mentality is the vital missing ingredient for us to progress.

I presume that is tongue in cheek gazza, Rodgers deserves no credit for our Europa campaign if klopp hadn't arrived we most likely would not have made it out of group stage . Klopp came in took the europaseriously and has done an unreal job in developing the players we have and trying to rebuild their confidence after Rodgers tenure. Just feel sorry for the likes of Marko who I believe would thrive under jurgen has been denied the chance because I'd stupid decisions taken by Rodgers.

Time for a bit of reality and perspective. We had 3 very good chances to score Joe Allen should have scored no argument. Firminos' shot that hit the post was more than a half chance, the goalie actually made a decent save, and all Moreno had to do was square it and Ibe would have had a tap in. We had just as many chances to score as Villareal, so if we score one of them and it nobody would be giving out about Klopp. I was just as disappointed as anyone when the final whistle blew. I would have started Sturridge, I agree with most posters that Villareal were there for the taking. Ibe Lallana Firmino
all played poorly but with the injuries we have what are the alternatives. The reality is we played in the semi-final of a European competition and were more than a match for the opposition and that is without Can, Sakho, Henderson, Origi so it should not be all doom and gloom. Klopp has already brought us to that level without signing a player. I thought Lovren was motm last night aand has been playing very well for a while, I would also give Toure another year. For the 2nd leg I would start Sturridge and put Firmino in Lallanas position. The only postion we need strenghtening in the summer is Goalkeeper imo (as well as the 2 already bought)

'anything less than 2 wins and we are left with nothing to do but fufill our epl fixtures'. If we win tonight and lose on Sunday we will still be in Europa league so that statement is totally untrue. Also why do people think beating German opposition is a foregone conclusion? e. g. 'I do hope tonight we set a good tempo and try and get the match won as quick as we can'. I saw the same sort of comments before the 1st leg e. g. put out our strongest team get the tie done in 1st leg etc. A bit of realism please we are not that good at the moment where we can blow away a Bundesliga team in 1st leg or presume that we can put the tie to bed early tonight. I do agree that these 2 games are season defining.
