Ed1 I saw on the more posts page you said Jorginho is the most overrated player in the league right now.

I’ve watched and watched him and I really don’t see what the fuss is about. He’s ok but that’s about it. Certainly not better than Hendo or Fabinho on what I’ve seen.
Certain posters on here bang in about how great Chelsea’s midfield is but with Jorginho doing very little, Kovacic running everywhere except where he should be and Kante being played woefully out of position I just don’t see what’s so great about them.
Add Barkley in there and it’s even worse!

Jorginho's a pointless passer of the ball. I have hardly see him play a decisive pass which started a direct Chelsea attack. Even worse for Chelsea fans, he is the reason Kante looks half the player playing out of position. Sarri is going to learn this lesson the hard way imo. More teams will pressure Jorginho and break Chelsea's midfield down after the sample Spurs gave everyone.

Jorginho played the pass to Hazard against us. So he is not all that average. When was the last time our midfielders played a pass for a goal?

Let's not be too hasty in judging other teams players.

Don't see how he is a bad player. yes he not as good as e was made out to be but he isn't bad or average. He does his simple passing and connects that midfield to attack and defense and stops some opposition attacks.
Only problem is, he is replacing a better player in Kante that does that job better than anyone and he isn't anywhere as good as him. And because of him kante isn't doing good either in his new position.
Switch them and chelsea are good again.

{Ed001's Note - except Kante never played that position except in the early days of Conte when he struggled and so did Chelsea, until they put Matic into that role and put Kante into his real position, instead of this ridiculous notion people have that he played as defensive midfielder. He played deeper than he does now, but he has never been a defensive midfielder, he is a central midfielder who breaks up play to protect the defence.

As for Jorginho, he is average, his range of passing is nothing special, he can't tackle, is slow, is positionally abysmal, can't head the ball, is weak and folds when put under pressure. Added to that he is extremely volatile and should have been sent off in both the last two matches for extremely deliberate and nasty tackles. He is like every average player, give them time and space and they look good. The difference between the better players and the rest is how well they perform when it matters and they are being pressured.}

people seem to buzz over him. They pull up stats about how many passes he’s made in games but it’s all pointless backwards and sideways. The pass like he did for hazards goal against us are a rareity. He is so slow and sluggish which couldn’t have been highlighted any better than by son (who isn’t slow but isn’t blessed with lightening pace either) at the weekend. His positional sense leaves a lot to be desired and because of that he is never in the right place for a tackle. He also has a nasty streak in him that is often missed, could quite easily have been sent off a couple of times this season already.

Ed do you think this is the end of race for chelsea? Hazard has kind of lost his spark in last few games. Midfield is out of place and they probably have the worst defense of the top 4 lot. Plus Sarri ball was always going to be found out as Chelsea do not have the bench strength at all. Thurday and friday games will effect them much more as they go deeper in the season.

{Ed001's Note - I never thought they were truly in the race for the title anyway, they were always going to fall away. Sarri has never figured out how to use his squad, even when he has options. That is fine in a slower paced, less physically demanding league such as Serie A, but the Prem is much physically tougher and modern players are just not able to keep up the intensity every week.}

Wijnaldum has the ODD good game but I think I'd still prefer him over Jorginho, he's not lived up to the hype at all (I don't even know why there was a hype tbh), he looks lost every single time he's on the pitch. There's only one positive of their midfield and it's Kante because he's simply incredible but that's all they have, the rest of their midfield are garbage.

I’ve always thought the same thing regarding Jorginho, never been that impressed with him. To make matters worse him playing has forced Kante into a more advanced role which doesn’t suit him. The best defensive midfielder in the world is being played out of position to make way for Jorginho.

You've got to feel sorry for Kante. How many seasons has it been that he's been forced to carry his midfield partner (s)? Drinkwater, Fabregas, Matic (after the first half of the season as per), Bakayoko, Pogba and now Jorginho (and Kovacic/ Barkley) . Which makes it all the more impressive he's a two-time PL winner and World Cup champion!

I have a contrary opinion. I think Jorginho is good. He makes lots of short passes, but they're usually more forward than sideways. And he controls the pace of Chelsea's attack. They played 2 bad games because he was marked out. Which shows a limitation that he can't play without space like Ed01 said. He also isn't defensive enough. But I would expect Sarri to find another way to play if Jorginho is marked out. I'll also expect Jorginho to find a way to play when he isn't afforded space. I've seen Gerrard and Iniesta marked out of games, Jorginho isn't as good as them. And most players have weaknesses, like "sideways-pass Henderson". Lol.

Cheers for the reply Ed I agree completely. Some are saying he’s like Joe Allen which is a fair comparison although the welsh Xavi probably got around the pitch a bit better.
I just find it amazing how some Liverpool fans will hammer Hendo for passing sideways but drool over Jorginho who is a far worse culprit than Hendo has ever been.
Some will always want next door’s Mrs instead of her indoors I suppose.

Kante is a destroyer and some people make him look like an Alonso and Kroos. Kante can’t do that which is why Jorginho is playing there. Sarri is no fool.

What did Kante do yesterday? He is the superhuman of all the footballing gods and he was abysmal when played out of his comfort zone. How many goals would he score? The most complete center midfielder would score less than Henderson and Wijnaldum.

If you think Chelsea is all about Kante then you got no idea of how they play. Sarri never played a DM. He had one at Napoli and was on the bench all his tenure. Instead he had two geniuses alongside Jorginho in Hamsik and Allan. Chelsea doesn’t have those two. End of

Chelsea lack goals which is their big issue not conceding goals. Sarri unlike others plays expansive football and play very high which will always result in conceding goals.

Kante is there to stop an attack while Jorginho is there to launch an attack and when Sarri eventually pair them they will have the midfield.

Salah. Yes I have every game he plays and trust me I have tried to see what a lot is seeing. Hear excuses he is not playing his natutal position and he is a work horse. Most players in the squad is and I am sorry to say he just isn't what I would call a baller. He had so many oppertunities to play an attacking ball forward the Mane incident is just one. I won't stop supporting the team but the plaudits he is getting is beyond me.

Jorginho is indeed overrated. I remember after we lost to Napoli, Ed01 said that Allan was the midfielder Sarri should have taken instead of Jorginho and we are now seeing why. He is weak in the tackle, lacks positional sense esp. in that deeper role and is an accident waiting to happen as we saw vs Spurs when they got on top of him. They say Hendo makes sideways passes. What do these people think Jorginho does? He is a glorified Joe Allen who makes a lot of short passes to "recycle possession" and that's it. Poor player, really.

As for the guy who said Kante is a destroyer or Chelsea is not all about Kante, he is fooling himself. Chelsea is ALL about Kante esp. in midfield. He is the reason LC and Chelsea won the PL in those years. Sorry bro, but It is you who has no idea how Chelsea play cos your comment is baseless, IMO. Sarri is playing him in the wrong position to accommodate the hapless Jorginho who is not fit to carry Kante's water bottle. The thread was about Deep lying playmakers and their roles which I have expressed my opinion at the best of my knowledge.

I don’t phrase my opinion based on clubs. I think I have said this from day one. My first football crush was Romario and he never played for any of those clubs I mentioned above.

I can understand people cannot handle other players here but trust me I can only say what I know, if you ask me about ten best deep lying playmakers then I could easily name them I simply don’t look at their badges or color of the shirt.

I am not from Liverpool, you might be from there. I chose the club like millions who are outside the UK. I could have chosen another club and I would still behave the same way like now.

To make you and a few happy, The best player ever to play the deeper role is Xabi Alonso. Fortunately he had a brief spell at Liverpool, a very good spell for Real and small yet effective spell at Bayern.

I can name 10 dross at Chelsea / City / UTD and Arsenal 😆. It’s very easy for me.

I love Kovacic. I loved his time at inter. The move to real came too soon for him imo. He regressed over there. But he is still a good player according to me. He is technically very good ( He might flop at Chelsea ) but I doubt that would change my opinion about the player.

I like Sarri. Most of it came from the days at Napoli. I thought he did an excellent job over there. Plays a very good football. A very hard working manager who made it to the top by sheer hard work. Turned an average winger to a goal scoring machine and many things. Where did I say he is crap. I don’t remember calling Sarri a crap.

I have seen every man on this page calling out for signing Kante given a chance and where would they play him?
In front of the defence? Which is already occupied by fan fav Hendo / Klopp fav Wiji / New boy Fabinho?

He lost his place to Jorginho. He can’t play on the right, can’t play on the left. Can’t score. He is no KDB, Silva or Coutinho to link in between midfield and attack.
