Considering the position (most people on this board thought) we were in about 2 weeks before the close of the pre-season transfer window, it’s absolutely brilliant that we are seriously asking the question ‘can we win the league’ halfway through the season. I’m actually enjoying the season and I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead - I think it’s a lot more open this season than it has been for what seems like an age and I’m actually expecting a few more unforeseen twists and turns before it’s over.

We won't win the league. It will be $ity again. Pep said so. We'll drop 2 points against Boremouth, and city will win their next match.

I agree WDW, only problem for me so far is that issue with going behind in games, I've no idea what's causing that but it's the one thing that will catch up on us if we aren't careful.

It's as if the players aren't 100% ready when they walk onto the pitch. Makes for exciting games but giving teams a headstart should NOT be a recognised tactic!

Without trying to jinx us.
I reckon we have looked like a better side than city this season, in the games I’ve watched from both sides anyway.
So as much as you can’t rule city out, I think we are in with a very good chance of winning it.
Injuries and luck play such a large part though when teams are so closely matched.

I also think City are lacking a bit of options from the bench this season. Of course KDB back is a massive boost but i think the loss of Mahrez and Gundogan was quite big.

I'm with johnny - if we can stop this habit of conceding the first goal in most games then I think we will win the league but if it continues we will drop too many points to stay ahead of City.

Klopp really is building another crop of 'mentality monsters' but it doesn't matter how good you are at turning games around from losing positions or scoring late goals if you are asked to do it too often you will come unstuck!

1985mikey1985, not sure you have that much control over the universe to be able to jinx us, lol.

Seriously tho WDW3, I never sweat these things in preseason cos at the end of the day, I have confidence in the team and even if we struggled a lot more than we did, I still wouldn't have panicked cos in the end, nobody thought we would be anything more worthy than 4th or 5th so really, I would have just called it teething problems which frankly, was what was happening. As for the slow starts, that still a problem we got to fix for sure overall.

Now am I ectatic that we are where we are? No question but I just take things game by game and not get too far ahead of myself and I learned this approach from the players and the manager who says the exact same thing regarding a title race: Take it one game at a time and see where we are in March. So, that's what Im doing.

This season for me was always about getting in the CL and possibly winning a cup, whilst the new and younger players coming through got use to tactics and each other. So I'm pleasantly surprised we are still fighting on all 4 fronts.

Yes credit should go to the players for how quick they have adapted but most of the credit should go to Klopp for his tactical tweeks when we are down (e. g the changes and subs at St James's Park) and the way he has built a collective never say die attitude within a squad that is only just starting out in the path they are on.

Pre-season for me is all about fitness, tactics and team bonding. The rest is secondary.

I’d imagine 17 other teams and their fans would swap places with us in this current climate in a heartbeat.

we are definitely in the conversation, but City are on a big run once again.

Stay positive! I didn’t think we’d be in the conversation this year, just because of the midfield changes and settling in time. But here we are, I think just stay in it (ideally on top) and enjoy the ride!
