ED001, I'd like your our opinion on when Slot came in . The narrative is that he wanted to look at the squad before deciding who he liked n that's why we never bought anyone if so then it worked out spectacularly well. but the cynic in was (whoever sorts transfers etc) because Klopp was leaving n more importantly they spent on Slob, grav n Macallister the year bfr, that they took their eye off the ball esp with the 3 contracts coming to an end . only mentioning this because posters on ere esp think Hughes n co are either geniuses or blaggers who got lucky.
{Ed001's Note - Slot assessed the squad in preseason and decided he wanted a midfielder and cover on the right flank. They brought in Chiesa and tried to get Zubimendi to fill those gaps. It didn't work out as Chiesa never won a place and Zubimendi fell through, but Slot made the best of it, which was his job.
That is why I said I expected us to go big this summer, there was money to spend and the backing was there, plus Hughes clearly wants to impress. It was never about taking eyes off the ball, it was just that they were still finding their feet and assessing what would be needed, while making sure that they kept money in hand in case Salah, Trent and Virgil left. They couldn't just spend freely last summer, just in case.
Now they have freedom. They can go all in and Slot knows who he wants to replace and who he wants to keep, making it a rebuild. I don't think they are complete bloggers or geniuses. Bloggers would not have got this far. Geniuses would have managed to do better last summer. They are somewhere in between.}

Has anyone said Hughes is a genius?
I've heard him described as incompetent clown that should be nowhere near the club and he only got the job because of his friendship with Edwards, though.
I realise that some fans won't change their stance on the sporting director of their own club but that says more about them than it does about Richard Hughes.

ED001 Thanks for the detailed reply. I agree they're somewhere in between . isn't Slot just the coach though n he only has an input in what players he'd like or has that moved on a bit different now he he's won the title n definitely knows what he doing n who he wants . again thanks in advance.
{Ed001's Note - he is the Head coach, but he does have a big say in recruitment - he decides what type of players and for what positions he wants and which ones he wants rid of. Plus he does offer suggestions of who to buy.}
