I am 78 now. i was lucky enough to play in Liverpools youth teams in the mid sixties. I was a goalkeeper. The training I had was very physical and hard. I would often be sick at the side. It was explained to me that my training was so hard because I wouldn't be doing the running in a match my teammates would, BUT I had to be at their level. Wickford, sorry autocorrect! not my favourite, but have the greatest respect in the job he's done for Everton.

What a wonderful post. Thank you for sharing a personal glimpse. It is rare and special to hear directly from someone who lived it.

Big thanks to the Eds as always for keeping this platform going and giving space for voices like this to be heard. These are the posts that make this site more than just rumours. YNWA.

Thanks for posting your memories, Soapy. What great insight.

Reminds me of that brilliant time in 2015 when Tommy Lawrence was interviewed in the street by a BBC journalist who was asking elderly people if they remembered the 1966–67 FA Cup Fifth Round game between Liverpool and Everton. The old geezer, smiling, replied, "Yeah, I do. I played in it. I was goalkeeper for Liverpool. "

Lovely post. Pickford is still rubbish however. Glad he is at Everton. Pope should be England No1.

Tbf pickfords game has improved. His distribution def is a lot better than when he started even though that was a pretty low bar.

He is poor and long may it continue.

{Ed078's Note - he has his brain fart moments, for sure. But, he's served the club well for years.
