Liverpool have been linked with Kevin (Fulham), Savinho (Man City) and Neto (Chelsea). All similar style of wingers. Lots of ball carrying and lots of flair. Kevin and Savinho are so raw though. They really lack in terms of end product.

Neto is probably the best player of the three and with 10 goals and 10 assists last season he has started adding some end product to his game. About 5 or 6 years ago I remember posting on here that Neto and Eze would be great long term replacements for Salah and Mane.

Eze then popped his Achilles and Neto blew out his knee ?. I was convinced that I cursed them!

I’d be happy with Neto given he’s still only 26, although I can’t see why Chelsea would sell their only effective winger just as he moves into his prime years. Kevin and Savinho though? No thanks! There’s no evidence I’ve seen that suggests they can be anything more than show ponies in the Premier League.

Mk, it looks like Alonso is going with his 3421. They have Palestra and are after Vallecanos lwb. They also have Estevao, and have purchased Quenda from Sporting, both for the rw, so Neto will be moved on imo.

If that is the case, Keegans Purm, maybe the Neto rumour has some legs. He'd be a good choice in my opinion.

Personally, I would rather not sign a wide forward who has scored 20 league goals in 7 seasons.

Neto is miles ahead of the other 2.

I think he knows his time at Chelsea is close to the end.
That's why we are seeing some flirting from him.

He could provide some much needed decent service for Isak.

Potassium, it's 33 goals and 46 assists for Wolves/Chelsea in 238 games. That's basically a goal/assist every 3 games despite over half of those games being for a struggling Wolves team. He's also hardly been playing for a vintage Chelsea team and across those 7 seasons he was aged 19-26.

Feels very reductive and lacking in context to just say "20 league goals in 7 years".

I mean fair enough, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. As I am entitled to disagree, because I think Neto is already a good player with his best years still ahead of him.

You're reaching, MK. Go down the Neto route and we'll go backwards. A vile character for me, a cheat. Not what I want to watch out of a LFC player every week. 33 goals in 238 goals is average at best too, no matter what way it's looked at.

Fair enough, MK, but it's the Premier League and Champions League that I'm interested in, they are the competitions Liverpool need to be competing for. I'm not interested in domestic cup goals against Charlton, Cardiff, and Barrow or Europa League goals against KAA Gent and Pyunik Yerevan.

In the Premier League he averages a goal every 9 games and an assist every 5 games.
If he was 21/22 and might kick on, then fair enough, but he's 26, this is as good as he is going to be.

Potassium, it is worth remembering that he suffered a serious ACL injury, which set him back a full year at least, so despite being 26, he is still improving year on year. Last season he actually started adding end product to his game consistently. 20 goals/assists from your winger is a very good return. We've just been spoiled by Salah and Mane into thinking wingers should get 30-50 goals/assists. That's not normal though, and it also came at a price, where we needed to play with a workmanlike midfield 3, and a false 9.

FYI, Bukayo Saka got 11 goals and 9 assists (20 total just like Neto) and his team won the Premier League title and got to the Champions League final. On the opposite flank for Arsenal, Trossard got 8 goals and 11 assists (19 total).

Elsewhere at top 3 teams, Doku got 8 goals and 14 assists (22 total) and Mbeumo got 12 goals and 3 assists (15 total).

Neto's 10 goals and 10 assists (20 total) is pretty much in line with most of the top wingers in the Premier League.

The one exception was Semenyo (who was my first choice by far), and we let him slip to Man City. By the way though, Semenyo only actually got 21 goals and 6 assists (27 total), which is hardly a huge amount above the others I've listed.

Salah (and to a lesser extent Mane) set such an unrealistic expectation for Liverpool fans of what a winger should do. Any Premier League winger getting 20+ g/a in a season in all competitions is a top player. If you're getting 30+ you're absolutely world class. 40+ and you're in the generational Mo Salah/Cristiano Ronaldo bracket.

I suspect most people have already made their minds up though, and won't be swayed by my justification for believing Neto's end product last season was in line with the best wingers in the league.

At the risk of repeating myself, I'm not really interested in domestic cup stats. Last season, in the Premier League and Champions League, Neto played 42 games and had 12 g/a. In the FA and Carabao Cups he played 10 games and had 8 g/a. These were mostly against Charlton, Hull, Port Vale and Cardiff.
He's a League Cup player, a stat padder.
