That's a load of nonsense from Iraola. We don't need Wirtz to run around a lot and show endeavour, any journeyman can do that. We need end product.

That's his point though overkill, he can potentially do that without being the person directly on the end of it.
If Wirtz picks the pass out which then assists a goal, Wirtz won't get any credit but played a crucial part in that goal. All he's says he doesn't really care who assists or scores so long as everybody contributes towards the team playing well,
He also clearly wants him to be a key player in the press. Which will be really important to Adoni but won't show up on any goals/assists metric.

I wonder if AI feels that if Wirtz gets to grip with the physicality and team mates click. He will be unreal. Keep playing him.
Same with Isak. He's giving them the minutes to play themselves in to form. Wirtz has moments in some games that are unreal.
