Dominik Szoboszlai aims to become Liverpool captain next season when Virgil Van Dijk gives his farewell.
I am told a big part of him signing a new deal and remaining at the club was because he badly wanted to become the leader of the team - the captain for the future.
Virgil also believes that Szoboszlai is the heir to the armband and has expressed this to higher-ups at the club.

Unfortunately, TTWD, he is losing his aura and pace. Hopefully last year was a blip, but he didn't look good for the Netherlands either.

Nah, Virg needs an extension 100%. I'd give him another 2 years without a second thought. Forget about what he looked like for the Netherlands, he's never looked the same player for them. Just need to provide him some better protection next season, and he'll still be one of the best CBs around.

Virj will look miles better once he has a proper DM in front of him. Last year the back line was wide open for everybody to have a crack at. We were crying out for a player like Endo, but he barely got used. Everybody told me he wasn't good enough when I suggested using him, but the amount of goals we leaked says we were desperate for a proper tackler to just sit in front of the back line and sweep up.
Macca and Szob aren't that, and it seems that last year Grav was either instructed to not sit so deep or something. Anyway, Endo was criminally overlooked last year in my opinion, and I hope this year he forces himself back into the side.

Vvd was a terrible captain last year, blaming others for his mistakes, pointing and shouting to cover his own poor performances.

Vvd's performance has gradually dropped off over the past season and a half. It's to be expected - he's in his mid 30s and he is playing in one of the toughest leagues in the world. There's no shame in it - Father Time catches up with everybody and it's not disrespectful to say his performances have dipped. Even with the dip he is still head and shoulders above most CBs in world football.
I'd want to see how Leoni and Jacquet bed in, along with any additional CB that we might bring in, but I'd lean towards not standing in Vvd's way if he wanted a change - maybe to the MLS or Saudi / Qatar. No matter what he has been a brilliant player for Liverpool.
