Hi Ed002, I hope you are well. I have just joined and great site. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the recent boycotting of social media following abuse. Do you think it is remotely possible to get a host of European clubs to collectively take a stand and if so, what are you thoughts on whether that would in reality change how people can hide behind anonymity. It feels like something has to be done however, it feels like it almost needs to be done on huge scale for this to happen. Thanks for your time,

{Ed002's Note - Social media has become a growing issue and certainly the Premier League clubs and The FA want to do more to stop the issues. Much of the responsibility must rest with the platform providers who need to do more. Some clubs do provide advice to their players over the use of social media. I am not sure a boycott of any type will help much. Some of the clubs and players have encouraged "WhatsApp" groups where just the staff and sometimes a few others will be involved.}

Thanks Ed. I agree, there seems a reluctance from the platform providers and they have become powerful in their own right so it appears it will take something considerable to shift there thinking. It’s sad how many people seem to think abuse is ok.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think there is any reluctance and the Premier League and FA will be engaging with them.}

Brilliant interview and top man. People are so enraged by the last 48 hours and obsessed with kicking the owners out that they are discounting the fact that the ESL is no different to how the PL was founded, we just didn’t have the social media and television rights companies dictating the narrative. I do not personally agree with the ESL however, look at the new CL format and tell me the underlying principle isn’t about exploiting fans and tv revenues. Many City’s Onuoha made a brilliant point stating over a decade has been spent trying to ban clubs and players from competitions when they racially abuse players yet nothing has ever happened and no action has been taken, yet the ESL threatens UEFA’s revenue and within the hour blanket bans to all clubs and players is threatened. I don’t know the answer here, empower E002 and we’d all rally behind that but maybe take a step back and if everyone wishes to rally to make change, then the right change needs to be identified not just one element of it that offends our sensibilities. I know I’ll get a stack of abuse and be told I’m not a fan but remember, sometimes it’s better the devil you know and I’m pleased an apology was made. They are business people and successful and we like them when they are given us stacks of transfer money but want them out when they try to do it in a way we don’t like. It was a wrong move but as Simon Jordan said, if it was an open competition what would be the argument then and is it possible to find a better solution rather than just threatening everyone. Just saying. Let the trolling commence.
