Just watching Chelsea now and I was wondering if they would have any kind of first dibs over a permanent transfer for Joao Felix? If not, and if he proves himself to be suited to the Premier League over the next few months. I think it might be worth us throwing a bid in, he would be the perfect profile of player to replace Firmino long-term.

thom43

{Ed002's Note - there is no option to buy but Chelsea have been given a price as Felix has fallen out with the coach. Liverpool are not showing an interest at this time.}

1.) 11 Feb 2023 14:42:05
Ed002 from what I had seen of him I did no get what the big thing is, but his first 2 games for Chelsea I think he has looked very good apart from that silly challenge.

{Ed002's Note - He is a very good player - we will see what happens.

2.) 11 Feb 2023 18:05:36
I said exactly this about a month ago. Really good player completely wasted at Athletico. Perfect Bobby replacement unfortunately we've already signed our forwards and any money we get will need to go on the midfield.

3.) 11 Feb 2023 18:12:36
Wrong page Ed for this bit do you think Mount will look to move on, are we interested?

{Ed002's Note - I would think agreement will be reached over a new contract but the issue is the demands from his representatives. One club has asked Chelsea about him but it is not Liverpool.}

4.) 11 Feb 2023 20:22:48
Chelsea have Nkunku coming in surely they don’t need both? Felix for me is the perfect Firmino successor. Nkunku would have been up there too.

5.) 12 Feb 2023 08:11:23
Real Madrid might be interested in him this summer….

6.) 12 Feb 2023 09:16:29
He’s a fantastic player but I can see him wanting champions league. I think he’ll end up at Chelsea or abroad.

{Ed025's Note - if he wants CL football L8 then he certainly wont be going to chelsea mate..

7.) 12 Feb 2023 09:41:42
Or Liverpool.

{Ed025's Note - i think you might be right gaga..

8.) 12 Feb 2023 09:05:31
I’ve seen a few rumours about Liverpool interest in Gvardiol this morning. Is it true that Leipzig turned down 90mill euros in the summer eds2? If so I can’t see Liverpool spending that kind of money although I’d say he is perfect for us.

{Ed002's Note - They have rejected two significant offers from another side with two sides still wanting further talks.}

9.) 12 Feb 2023 11:07:45
I'd By Gvardiol before Id buy Bellingham.

30 Jan 2023 13:35:28
If Southampton were to be relegated surely Romeo Lavia would become available. Would there be any possibility of us making a move? We haven't bought anyone from Southampton for a while so we're probably due one.

thom43

{Ed002's Note - No. Other clubs are interested but not Liverpool.}

Seen a few (questionable) sources suggesting we are working on Caicedo behind the scenes and things could be over the line very soon. I'd like to believe its true, can anyone shed any light?

thom43

1.) 29 Dec 2022 16:37:45
If we are going to pay 50+m for a player with one decent season in a low pressure side, our scouts and stats folks must be certain.
What do those in the know think of this guy?

2.) 29 Dec 2022 16:46:32
He's played a full season in Ecuador at high altitude, once he's on Jurgen's PEDs he'll be able to run 100km in one game - thus reducing the need to sign any more midfielders when he can do the work of three. Bargain.

3.) 29 Dec 2022 16:49:45
Hope is true. Young, strong, tenacious and good on the ball. He has all the attributes we need to revive this midfield for the second half of the season. Always been impressed whenever I watch Brighton play.

4.) 29 Dec 2022 16:53:41
Spaceman he’s excellent. Every time he plays for Brighton he’s by far the standout player.

Can play in the DM role and CM role. Reminds me of a Leicester Kante, bags of energy, fast and is strong in the tackle.

Surprisingly good on the ball also, very good dribbler and press resistant. Could work a bit more on his passing but he would be a fantastic signing and for me is exactly what Liverpool are missing in the midfield. At 21 he’s also got bags of potential, think he will become a truly special player. Think he would largely solve our midfield issues as that’s down to a relative lack of energy and pace.

Really really hope it happens. I’m a big fan (in case you can’t tell)!

5.) 29 Dec 2022 16:57:11
That is some praise MonkeyMad. I read elsewhere that he can also play CB and in one of the full back positions, can anyone corroborate this?
He sounds like a total football utility don.

6.) 29 Dec 2022 17:22:00
Would be a great signing. Gives us the legs in middle of park we've been missing all season.

7.) 29 Dec 2022 18:19:00
At the rumoured £70mill that Brighton want I don’t see it happening and to be honest I don’t think he’s worth that much money.

8.) 29 Dec 2022 18:38:47
jordz, £70m on Caicedo would be better than £45m on Amrabat, given their comparative ages, all round ability, mobility (seriously, Amrabat moves as nimbly as a tank), tactical flexibility (Caicedo can play both box to box and holding role), pace, technique, and the fact that Caicedo is a known quantity in the premier league. There’s a gaping hole in our midfield and it’s not going to be easy to fix on the cheap.

9.) 29 Dec 2022 18:40:01
Apparently Chelsea in for him now.

10.) 29 Dec 2022 18:52:12
60m in this days money for a cm who could be in the main team for 9yrs is nottin!
He’s top quality!

11.) 29 Dec 2022 19:38:59
I know lots of posters point out that Mc Allister, Caicedo, Enzo etc were cheap buys from South America, and we'd be fools to pay big money 1 -2 years later if we can go shopping there. The problem is of course, even if well scouted, only 5% of these players actually excel. At our level, in our current predicament, you have to buy proven talent. Which means demand from elsewhere. Which means market value. Which means £50m minimum for a top four player.

12.) 29 Dec 2022 19:28:45
If we want to make a good fist of rescuing this season then we need him in this window.

If we’re happy with a Wenger Cup scrap then we can continue to wait for these midfield unicorns that we’ve written off seasons for.

13.) 29 Dec 2022 19:42:20
I'm with many on amrabat. The other names we are linked with are way better and more importantly, more mobile. He s not for me. Caciedo would be awesome in my opinion. One of my favorites. If we got him and Bellingham in the next two windows it would be absolutely crazy. Getting ahead of myself. Caciedo on his own excites me massively for the future. I really really hope this is true but probably won't be. Seems too good.

14.) 29 Dec 2022 19:44:38
Interesting that Fab and Hendo played so well recently, it's almost as if they knew someone good was incoming.

Pep L will get Moises on the red bull and he will be running through McFred as if they are cardboard cut outs.
This bloke can part the UTD midfield like Moses parted the red sea.

What an incredible boost these two high quality young players will be to a squad. Combined with the existing youngsters that are pushing for starts, we will be in rude health.

15.) 29 Dec 2022 19:58:48
He sounds like some player. A replacement for Gini?

16.) 29 Dec 2022 20:09:59
Pelican, we need a midfielder of his type either way. Any one of him, Ibrahim Sangare, Kouadio Koné or even Kephren Thuram or Yunus Musah would be decent signings. I think even Mac Allister is worth a look as he’s a busy midfielder who puts in, has good technique and also isn’t afraid of putting the boot in.

17.) 30 Dec 2022 04:14:21
we need a runner in midfield. They don't even really need to be good at football (lol), we need someone to keep the engine running to allow fabs, thiago/ elliot to do their bits.

18.) 30 Dec 2022 07:52:11
So can Moises play in any of the MF positions?
I can see why people are excited about this guy, over someone like Rice.

I didn't expect us to win last night, I thought we were going to give it a really good go and up coming short. What hurts is that it didn't feel like we even did that.

Yes we threw four forwards on, but what was the plan? There was nobody on the pitch capable of getting the ball to them. Seemed more of a gesture than anything else and the whole game felt like a damage limitation exercise, there was no belief we could actually come back.

The concern is, there is no way Klopp of 2 years ago goes there and accepts defeat, it was almost sad to watch it play out like that. Taking Darwin off was the equivalent of throwing the towel in, he was the only one causing their defence any problems at all.

Ultimately, Madrid treated the game as a training session with both eyes on the Clasico at the weekend. They didn't even get out of first gear and ended up beating us on the night by accident.

No matter how bad Liverpool have been in the league, I've always felt we could beat anybody in Europe and have largely been proven right. Even when we have been knocked out of the groups before I have at least managed to be deluded.

Only twice have I ever felt like we didn't belong in the Champions League. That season under Brendan Rodgers, and last night. Hard to take.

thom43

1.) 16 Mar 2023 15:01:42
On the positive side we didn’t get stuffed and we didn’t get out of first gear so we’ve saved the lads legs for our next game in 17 days time.

2.) 16 Mar 2023 17:35:21
We can beat anyone in Europe apart from Madrid it seems, proper bogey team now.
Well beaten this time over the 2 legs though, I don’t think we can be at all surprised or aggrieved though.

3.) 16 Mar 2023 17:59:22
OP, I have no idea why people were losing their minds over this game. We all knew we had no chance. We all knew if we went gung ho, we were more likely to get battered than even threaten to overturn the deficit. The most we could have hoped for was winning the game in the night and even that could have ended in another battering.

I get why people are frustrated but what I don’t get is the OTT crap coming out as if we really had a chance to do it and just bottled it. We were no hopers in that game and I’m happy we came out of it with some dignity and no injuries. What’s the point of going for everything and getting batters again? That was NIT going to help the boys whose confidence is already on the floor at this point.

4.) 16 Mar 2023 18:57:21
You call a fairly meak surrender dignity?

You gain confidence by puffing your chest out, taking responsibility for your mess and giving it a good go. Not getting beat 1-0 when you struggled to lay a glove on them. That’s hardly inspiring either!

Our passing was abject and we were second to the ball on far far to many occasions, particularly second half. We didn’t give ourselves a chance on the night.

We showed in the first game we could get at them and the few chances we had we showed little composure. Jota couldn't hit the target with a volley and salah couldn’t find Darwin with a ten yard pass.

Truth is if it wasn’t for some world class goalkeeping it was going to be another rodgering.

Bottom line is one shot on target second half when you are chasing the game is not good enough.

5.) 16 Mar 2023 19:14:18
Bottom line is what happened in the first leg. If we player Madrid away first leg, and lost 1-0,we would be over the moon, and confident of going through with the second leg at Anfield.

6.) 16 Mar 2023 19:15:06
I don't know what team the tactical geniuses on the forum expected Klopp to put out last night given the squad he had available.

7.) 16 Mar 2023 19:54:56
People are frustrated. They should be. We have gone from one of the best in the world to becoming an also-ran, as we were for 30 odd years, seemingly overnight. I didn’t expect us to win the tie. I expected a team of proven highly talented football players (as they have proved recently) collectively earning approximately £3.5m per week to at least try their best to win in the sport they are good at in an entertaining manner. That’s what football is isn’t it? Entertainment? Not playing like that it isn’t.

I’m at a stage where results don’t really bother me, only effort and attitude on display. Last night I saw neither. The squad is capable, we always have been. Our problem was we were never consistent. Klopp made us win everything by making us consistent, making us believers. We have returned to how we were before he turned up. Capable of beating the best teams whilst simultaneously losing to average teams. Before the 2nd Madrid game one of my co-workers asked me if I thought we win the game at least and I replied with an answer I haven't uttered since Klopps first season - “It depends which version of Liverpool turn up”. So disappointing to be back to those days again.

{Ed025's Note - good post that westwood mate..

8.) 16 Mar 2023 21:11:37
When has losing a game of football become a decent result.

I can understand defending the team if we are playing poorly and getting results but what a load of tosh saying losing 1 nil is ok because it doesn’t dent our confidence too much.

{Ed025's Note - im with you JK, i would have gone for it from the start mate and if you got whacked then so what, it was a one off game..

9.) 16 Mar 2023 21:11:47
What people also aren’t accounting for is last night was off the back of a terrible performance at Bournemouth. There wasn’t even a hint at a reaction from that.

It wasn’t about winning or losing last night. It was about effort and pride. As Westwood rightly said - there was very little of it.

10.) 16 Mar 2023 23:06:58
Yup, that was a tame display, alright. Klopp signaled his intentions and strategy with the 4 forward setup. The boys didn't or couldn't execute. The minimum ask was a victory, because at the end of the day we are LFC.

11.) 17 Mar 2023 14:06:57
Wassa, I’m not bothered about a game we were never going to win and we’re more likely to get battered in than anything else so spare me the righteous stuff cos it’s irrelevant to me. If you wanted your reaction to Bmouth was what you were looking for then, you were looking in the WRONG place. That’s a You problem cos I wasn’t doing any of that.

We lost one nil in a game we could have lost 4 nil so which one would people have preferred? Placing a bar you know the players currently could never meet is a dreadful way to analyse performances

We were never going to win and pretty sure that those frothing at the mouth spouting stuff about us not doing more would be the ones screaming bloody murder had we gone for it and got battered and their confidence shot to bits, saying we should have just kept the score down. We lost a game we were NEVER going to win anyway so people need to get over themselves esp. The self righteous ones on here.

12.) 17 Mar 2023 17:00:01
Oli I guess a match day going fan and one who follows the club as a tv programme differs.

03 Mar 2023 12:21:18
Seeing Bobby leaving is gutting. I know it's the right time for the club and player to move on, and we can't keep making the same mistake of holding on to players forever - but it's still a difficult one to swallow. A proper legend, arguably the player who kick-started the Klopp era and a lad who gave everything for the club. At least we know in advance so we can give him the send-off he deserved, which we didn't get to do with Sadio Mane. I'm sure his last game at Anfield will be a special one.

thom43

1.) 03 Mar 2023 12:50:33
Has that been confirmed then? Not seen anything in the press yet. Cracking player, pretty much under-rated as a vital cog in our machine by every other team's supporters. Sad to see him go but onwards and upwards (hopefully) .

2.) 03 Mar 2023 13:06:14
Bobby deserves a massive send off.

Terrific player for the club and always played with his heart on his sleeve.

3.) 03 Mar 2023 13:14:39
Disappointing if true as I thought he still had something left to offer if he was on a lower wage.
But wish him all the best, magnificent player.

4.) 03 Mar 2023 13:14:39
Absolute legend but if we're honest it's the right time for him to leave. He is injured a lot now and we need to be ruthless in this rebuild.

It is sad though. At one time i think we all universally agreed he made our team tick. You almost feel like he deserves a testimonial despite not quite doing 10 years.

5.) 03 Mar 2023 13:29:24
My FAVOURITE KLOPP PLAYER EVER. What a guy. I will remember how he sold Soldado down the river, even on my deathbed. Can't be sadder. A guy who made football seem fun.

Can't be sadder. Goodbye LEGEND.

{Ed025's Note - he has not died TKA he is moving on because he can’t even get a game for a mediocre Liverpool side mate. Always overhyped for me and you should have got shot of him 3 years ago..

6.) 03 Mar 2023 13:49:56
Strange mix of emotions. Forever grateful for the memories of being part of the part of the devastating front trio. He made that false 9 position his own for many years. Not to mention he is just a nice loveable guy. He never caused any issues and was always smiling. But on the other hand I’m ‘happy’, for lack of a better word that he didn’t extended his contract. It was the right time for him to move if we take sentiments aside so that we can start rebuilding the squad.

{Ed025's Note - he did always come across as a nice guy Alonso..

7.) 03 Mar 2023 13:51:32
I disagree on 3 years Ed025. But we should've sold him last summer when we still had the opportunity (along with Ox and Keita) . Yet another player lost on a free transfer. It really isn't very smart considering we already can't compete financially with other clubs.

We did do it with Mane at least but if he hadn't asked to leave we'd probably be losing him for free too.

Same as with Sturridge, Origi, Lallana and Wijnaldum. It's really poor forward planning. Thank god Edwards is gone and Ward isn't far behind. We need a proper director of football this time.

It's not Firmino's fault though and i don't think we should let it take anything away from his legacy at Liverpool. Any player who scores over 100 goals for a single club has given those fans enough fond memories to deserve our respect and love.

{Ed025's Note - nice fella who had a good few years MK but for me his time was up a few years ago mate. Very easy on the eyes in the early days but of late has been a passenger. I always thought that if I was making a remake of the “Invisible Man” I would want him as my lead..

8.) 03 Mar 2023 14:12:45
Rather than him take anyone of your side as the lead. ull gets oscar after oscars mate. and not just this season lots of season before this too.

9.) 03 Mar 2023 13:51:58
Proving my point perfectly about how other team's supporters saw him there Ed025.

{Ed025's Note - there is always sentimentality when a decent player goes johnny but time moves on mate, 2 or 3 years ago you may have got decent money for him mate but luxury players like bobby are not at a premium anymore..

10.) 03 Mar 2023 13:58:19
Everyone has their opinions Ed025. But he made football fun for me. Played with a smile and a child-like exuberance. his technical ability was outrageous too. And the fact that he wasn't a machine (like Salah) made him all the more special for me, I guess. I will definitely miss him a lot.

{Ed025's Note - i have nothing but respect for bobby TKA and think he has a great attitude, i personally would have sold him a while back but thats not his fault mate..

11.) 03 Mar 2023 14:30:28
Bobby Firmino scores more goals than Richarlison even this season when he’s been mainly injured. Great player, won the lot.

12.) 03 Mar 2023 16:43:11
Even comparing him to Richarlison is a bit of an insult to Bobby to be fair

To give Richarlison credit, he looked every inch a Brazilian during the World Cup. Then as soon as he lands back in England he turns straight back into Jon Walters. Strange one, maybe he has a twin?

13.) 03 Mar 2023 17:11:39
He still walks into your dross outfit now though Ed025. That’s for sure.

{Ed025's Note - hes not really a dyche player DTD, these days hes more of a fit for the likes of accrington where he can stroll around doing nothing but pretty little flicks mate..

14.) 03 Mar 2023 17:27:44
Bobbie’s mint, man. Absolute baller and truly one of the good guys. It was time for him to go and play out the rest of his career as he sees fit.

As for Ed25, not sure why anyone should care when you would have sold Bobbie cos wouldn’t even have signed him cos you thought he was crap to begin with. So are you now admitting you were wrong on Bobbie after the witch hunt you created for him or are you going to stick to being perennially wrong and move the goalposts like you always are when discussing Pickford during the podcasts with the other Ed’s laughing their heads off? I’ll wait.

{Ed025's Note - i have never said bobby was crap oli, in his first seasons he was actually very good, but then...the wheels come off and he was found out as being a "busy doing nothing" personification, a little flick here a cruyff turn there and the odd 1 - 2, worked hard but had little effect on the outcome of games, mane and salah basically carried him for years and if i was in charge he would have been on his bike in 2020, i dont mind you looking at him through red tinted glasses mate but dont tell lies..

15.) 03 Mar 2023 18:40:18
Great player over the years. seems a true gentleman too. But I have to agree with Ed on this. he should of gone 3 seasons ago.

16.) 03 Mar 2023 19:48:52
In all truth Bobby had 2 world class players either side of him, he was always the weakest link up front and even Ed25 would have looked like a baller if he was in that position. Most of his goals were tap-ins against already beaten teams. He was never, ever world class, there was never a queue of elite teams trying to sign him - does that not say something about his "ability". You all want to get back to winning trophies but don't want to have to take down your old Bobby posters. Have a good cry tonight and move on. Bye Bobby, all the best.

17.) 03 Mar 2023 22:12:27
Clearly the true essence of football completely escapes some people.

Looks like you need the cry far more than any of us do. Enjoy.

18.) 03 Mar 2023 23:03:39
I don't profess to speak for everyone else (unlike some) but not one team in the history of football has ever won a trophy relying on "true essence". The only thing to thank Bobby for at this point of his career is that he has taken the decision of whether to stay or go out of Liverpool's hands. Thank you Bobby.

{Ed002's Note - You mean smell?}

24 Feb 2023 13:07:03
What's everyone's thoughts about Neil Jones? I keep seeing him regularly with updates on Liverpool's transfer plans and I have to say it does make me chuckle a bit.

He comes across as a likeable bloke, but I genuinely don't think he has a clue or any contacts at the club of note. You can see the cogs turning in his head while he's trying to think of something to say that sounds feasible. I suppose that's what most of them do, but are at least a bit more subtle about it.

thom43

1.) 24 Feb 2023 13:28:28
They all read tea leaves. They hedge their bets and say things in a vague enough way to give them deniability should their predictions not transpire. He's a lot more likeable than James Pearce I'll give him that at least.

2.) 24 Feb 2023 14:22:32
Apparently by some accounts, Jones has not gotten a SINGLE piece of transfer news right. Always talking speculation and “maybes” like JP, something any of us here can do. If you’re not Paul Joyce or any of the Ed’s, I don’t pay attention at all.

3.) 24 Feb 2023 15:08:40
I suppose at least he’s getting paid to spouting rubbish.

There’s plenty on here including myself that do it for free.

4.) 24 Feb 2023 16:32:38
After reading about a million transfer stories every window I believe there is a pretty comprehensive list of people who do and don't know what they are talking about.

LFC's journalists are in a tough situation. There is very rarely information leaked out and this means that those journos close to LFC rarely report early about targets etc, in general Liverpool's transfers seem to always be kept quiet and you're never really sure who they are after until very close to a deal.

There are however times when the interest is confirmed, whether that be via agents or other sources, recently stories such as: Konate, Tchouameni, Bellingham, Matheus Nunes, Mount have been confirmed by very reliable sources months in advance of potential transfers. Whilst some of these haven't happened (yet) the people reporting are some of the most reliable Liverpool journos.

From my experience the most reliable journalists in relation to LFC seem to be:

David Ornstein - Pinnacle of British transfer news (reported on Konate months in advance and broke the story)
Paul Joyce - Never wrong, club briefed source (informed recently that LFC were keen on Bellingham and Matheus Nunes)
Melissa Reddy - Consistently correct on transfers and has sources
Henry Winter - writer of Times Sport, as reliable as Ornstein.

There are numerous others, Sky Germany (no other Sky sources though other than Reddy) and their reporters tend to be spot on. There is also the curious case of Fabrizio Romano - he knows lots about European clubs however he practically never gets anything LFC related correct and just copies stories from other reporters, he is well informed however from the players side (lots of contacts with agents) .

Might be worth one day compiling a list of accurate sources and determining who tend to be right and who usually aren't.

I say this because there are so many independent reporters and newspapers who can be hit or miss, or sometimes complete liars.

5.) 24 Feb 2023 16:53:56
I think with Romano we don't pay as much attention to transfer news from other clubs so we tend to think he is correct about those. In reality he probably does the same thing he does with Liverpool stuff, I'd have him down as a news aggregator more than anything.

6.) 24 Feb 2023 17:14:24
Fabrizio Romano seems to only be capable of breaking stories 10 minutes before everybody else does.

7.) 24 Feb 2023 17:35:17
Think ed1 and ed2 are pretty accurate.

8.) 24 Feb 2023 18:18:45
I just thought of how it would be if someone compiled a similar list of the posters, and their usual views, here on the Liverpool rumours pages. Going from "Objective and sane" at the top, down to "ludicrous and insane" for the bottom.

I wonder were we could place JK23? ?.

9.) 24 Feb 2023 18:44:57
Aray ??. We’d be in the relegation zone mate.

I have a list of super fans who would probably be trying to organise a break away super league though ?.

10.) 24 Feb 2023 18:49:47
Who wants to be objective and sane?
I'd sooner be objective, insane and occasionally ludicrous. Well, occasionally all the time.
Sane flatters to deceive. He did at City anyway.

11.) 24 Feb 2023 22:01:57
JK, give some of the superfans some credit will you? They see the irony of ironies. Almost everybody is screaming " give us the money" (new owners = new players), but want the money to be clean, sanitized, deodorized, pasteurized and homogenized.

Ain't no such thing.

12.) 25 Feb 2023 08:22:12
ArAy1969, essentially they are looking for unicorns. No wonder they are always mad and can’t even enjoy the good times.

Watchutokkinbout Oli? I'm (proudly) one of those "Superfans". Beats having a scowl on your face all day long. ?.

Indeed, ArAy1969.

15.) 25 Feb 2023 17:18:07
Aray you’re not a super fan mate. You’re a good positive fan that is open to debate and others opinions. The super ones don’t allow anyone else an opinion.

Rafa Benitez in the studio on Sky had me thinking, given the circumstances is it time to go for a bit of Rafa football tomorrow? A jammy 1-0 win at Anfield followed by a tedious goalless draw at the Bernebau would do me very nicely. Thank you very much.

I think a few months consultancy work from Rafa is what our defence needs TBH!

2.) 20 Feb 2023 13:25:51
As long as it's not a Brendan Rodgers tactical masterclass against Real Madrid, we'll be ok!

3.) 20 Feb 2023 13:50:38
Thanks for that Rugby Parker. I was hoping I had deleted the memories of Markovic and Borini running around the Bernebau permanently but you've just triggered my PTSD.

4.) 20 Feb 2023 14:31:05
We beat them four nil under Rafa in 2009. We blew them away early if I remember rightly.
That will do again.

5.) 20 Feb 2023 15:55:00
As long as he gets nowhere near transfer I couldn’t care.

6.) 20 Feb 2023 16:22:10
Maybe getting Rafa involved in some ad hoc coaching capacity isn't such a crazy idea. He clearly wants to stay around Merseyside and I doubt he has that many full-time jobs left in him. He has made some really poor career choices since we parted ways which has seen his stock plummet. I am not sure what job offers he would receive now which he would feel are worthy of his credentials. The tactics and coaching side of things was always his strength as opposed to the man-management so to make use of that knowledge in some limited capacity could be insightful. But it could also be a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. I'm not an expert on these kinds of things so am not sure how it would turn out but it's an interesting idea.

7.) 20 Feb 2023 17:02:08
2009.even Dossena scored in that match! A cheeky lob if I remember correctly.

8.) 20 Feb 2023 17:54:09
Rafa's teams played an entirely different brand of footie to Klopp's. It's not simply a case of getting him to work with our defenders for a bit.

Not unless you want a massive chasm between the defence and the attack anyway, cos Rafa's got the defenders playing a deeper line and Klopp still has the midfield and forwards looking to press.

9.) 20 Feb 2023 18:05:53
Stuie yes Dossena scored in thar game but from what I remember it was from a cross and he hit it through Cassias. The cheeky lob I think you mean came at old Trafford and I'm pretty sure it was in the same week.

10.) 20 Feb 2023 18:02:18
No, Stuie; the cheeky lob by Dossena was in the 1-4 win at Old Trafford.
He did score the fourth in a dominant 5-0 aggregate win though.
It was Gerrard and Torres on top form that night. I think Dossena came on as sub for Torres.

11.) 20 Feb 2023 18:30:32
The lob was against United later that week.
I still have a pic of their keeper stood helplessly with his arms by his side looking up in the air as the ball sailed over his head.
It's a pity he wasn't very good overall though.

12.) 20 Feb 2023 18:44:46
You're right, bigbaz.

13.) 20 Feb 2023 19:07:57
Thought so Rigsby. I remember being in Lennons bar the day after Old Trafford and two female tourists latched onto me and my mate and we thought we were hilarious saying "this week we've seen our team score 4 goals against the biggest club in the world. and man united" they really couldn't have cared less.

14.) 20 Feb 2023 21:36:51
Ah yes that's right! Not a bad week!

Saw a couple of reports linking us with making a move for Ansu Fati this morning, I hope it's not true, I remember the last time we had a Fati at Liverpool. Charlie Adam was awful.

1.) 13 Feb 2023 14:41:39
You misread it, mate. It is ain' so fatty ???.

2.) 13 Feb 2023 15:37:08
If Barcelona is willing to let Fati go then, everyone's for sale at that point. As for Barcelona themselves, watched them vs Villareal last night (I was bored) and they looked very good and defensively solid, as well. Xavi may have something there, IMO.

{Ed001's Note - Fati was represented by Matias Messi, but is not with Mendes and Mendes is hawking him round. Barca can't afford to hold onto him.}

To be fair to Xabi, he only left us because Rafa tried to sell him for Gareth Barry. In all fairness it was nice for him to even give us another season after that - probably the worst insult he's ever had.

This is very left-field and feel free to bite my head off, but I wonder if City would let John Stones go? He'd be an adequate backup and would get more minutes than he has there, but equally if circumstances meant he had to play every game he is good enough to do that as well. Homegrown option too.

I don't think you can put Ward Prowse and Maddison in the same sentence. Ward Prowse is a nothing bottom half midfielder who can strike a good free kick. Maddison is a player who has always had the talent to go to the very top, but struggled for consistency and overall influence in games until now (similar story with Rashford) .

thom43

{Ed001's Note - Maddison is nothing like Rashford. Rashford never missed training because he was too drunk from the night before to make it in. And then do it again and again.}

Ragnick being a bad manager doesn't make him a bad sporting director, it's a completely different job, and one that he has been excellent at previously. United have a clueless board and it was a ridiculous appointment, that's not his fault.

We should buy Coutinho off Villa and sell him to Barcelona again.

Just a quick one because it's been bugging me all day. Who's idea was that ridiculous corner routine? Floating the ball to the back of the box every time. Honestly might as well have just toe-poked the ball out for a goal kick and walked off.

I like Milner, but if we're all completely honest - he wasn't a top level central midfielder at 27, never mind 37. At best he was a Park-Ji sung type wide player. He brings a lot to the table besides just purely his football ability, no question of that. But bottom line, he's not a central midfielder.

Hopefully we've implemented some tactics by then. Rather than just asking players who can no longer run to run around a lot and then bringing James Milner on with half an hour to go regardless of the score.
