Sasha tavolieri reporting Liverpool are set to match Chelsea's bid for lavia, he still wants Liverpool.

Yep, a few different sites reporting the same - may be same source.

Inverse positions for each player atm - Caicedo wants Chelsea but we are the only team with a reported acceptable bid, Lavia wants us but Chelsea have the only acceptable bid atm.

I’m sure it will be resolved in the next day or two, basically as was expected last week - Chelsea get Caicedo and we get Lavia!

Sangare or Gravenberch as the additional midfielder? I think Gravenberch has a higher ceiling but his wages are very high.

Realy hoping klopp gets the £110 million, get Lavia gravenberch and a quality CB.

Honestly some of us want the lavia bid to fail. It is clear the lad isn't good at that price. The club is better of without him. Apparently certain targets are either not available or injured.

I hate this kind of reporting "set to, ready to, pushing for, following up with. " regarding Caicedo and Lavia saga. Just click baits and recycle news.

How difficult to table a bid if really interested?

Not being funny but with the bid we have put in for MC it would shock me if Southampton increased the asking price for lavia that alone should see us walk away as aparently we currently don't think he's worth 50 to us.

@Snoots, Even if we have £110m, and I don’t imagine it is that simple, I don’t think we get Lavia, Gravenberch and a quality LCB for the money - not with the way the market is atm. Who knows though? We might even have more purchasing power than we think.

buy good RB and play TAA in midfield
Lavia not that good (we already have Bajcetic) and Caicedo is too expensive.

I don't tnk its like 110m we have or so. people think about fifa or football manager and think so. i believe if the right player is available they will bid what we can. for example if mbappe wants to come to us they probably would bid 170-180.

Doesn’t matter who we buy if we set up away from home with 3 attack minded midfielders and expect Trent to ply DM we will get spanked.

Your forgetting the wages for them 3 players aswell the whole package has to suit the club financially it’s not just the fee .

Pretty sure you have money on top of any fee and what you pay to the agent etc . All I know is the club are trying and they know what positions need filling . The obvious lack of a 6 was so clear today . Can’t wait to see alexis mac further forward he looks to fast becoming the glue in the team to me . Same problems but same threat upfront. We need a tweak.

Do we think lavia will sign for us?

{Ed002's Note - We don't know.}

Thanks for your response Ed002.
I hope we get this guy he's good.

Sporting's left-footed CB Inacio's release clause is about £52M. Romeo Lavia is about £55M. So that's £107M. Gravenberch is, I think, around £35M but has significant wage demand/ issues.

Lavia is about to sign for Chelsea. We’ve messed this up massively.

Harsh on Trent that, he was trying to get out to play offside but Konate was deeper, he did the right thing in the moment, and they attacked down the right handside more than the left, we were standing off them and letting them cross for fun from our left all game.

More than transfers, what worried me was how exposed we looked tactically. 4 forwards, one attacking mid and then MacAllister at DM against Chelsea away? I know that’s an over simplification, but it looked like our defensive strategy was just built around intensity, and of course once that dropped and Chelsea settled into a rhythm we looked badly exposed.

That was worsened by Robbo getting double up on down the left, and then when Trent was tucking in as playmaker we left space to attack down the right. It didn’t take a rocket scientist for them to expose our flanks badly.

Transfers or not, I worry about our tactical nous, as even without any incoming transfers we could have done a better job of balancing our attack and defence (eg. We could have played Jones in midfield, or perhaps Gomez at RB and Trent in midfield) . I’m not a big fan of the inverted fullback role unless we have a lot more defensive cover elsewhere on the pitch.

SGRed, I agree with most of your assessment except for that last part. I think regardless of who we play or buy, the inverted fullback system will fail as it just exposes our flanks too badly. It's a very narrow system and is just so easy to play around. Our intensity didn't drop but Chelsea decided to attack through the flanks via Chilwell and James more. That was what did us in.

And StEtienne, I though Trent did quite well today. But he was asked to do too much by shuttling between both CM and RB. I just cannot see this "cannot be arsed" attitude that everyone seems to think he has.

Fair point Dcared, I’m not sure there’s an easy solution to defending with the inverted fullback. The only way it really works is if you dominate possession, but you’ll still be exposed against the best teams and we aren’t even there yet.

I would far rather see proper traditional FBs and a more balanced midfield, as I’m pretty sure we’ll still score goals (perhaps even more goal if we can hold onto possession better than we did on Saturday) .

StEtiene - if you watch the Chelsea goal again you will see Trent had 2 Chelsea players to deal with. If he is to blame for anything it’s not shouting loud enough to let his team mates know.
