Great summary!
Made me laugh you say "quick summary of the players" only to add a detailed (and brilliant) one ?.

{Ed001's Note - I get carried away! That is why it takes me so long to do them, I always end up thinking of something else to add. And thank you! I really appreciate that.}

Thanks for doing this up Ed. It's a great read as usual.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Dra.}

Good read, I have said this for a while and now convinced . we should switch to a 442/ 424 formation with trent occasionally stepping into midfield but not as a permanent inverted fb. With no natural defensive midfielder it's a bit old school but it looks natural and the players look better.

Thanks, Ed.
I feel bad for you having to talk about this darned system we keep going with. We're into year 3 of mucking about with the right back.

{Ed001's Note - it is my neighbours I feel sorry for. That moment when I first saw Gomez moving inside to sit in the centre of midfield was loud and very sweary here. They must have been wondering what was going on. Then the 4 goals as well, I do tend to forget the time here. I think I need to soundproof my flat for their sake.}

Great read as always. I see a huge amount of potential in this team. This is, providing we stop messing with tactics. We have lots of goals in the team but clean sheets should be a priority. I genuinely think we got 85-90 plus points if we just keep formations simple.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, I think this side is good enough to challenge for or even win everything if we get it right.}

"I saw Pep Lijnders leaning over to give Klopp advice in the second half and all I was thinking is that I hoped he was saying: "Don't listen to me boss, I haven't a clue what I am talking about, so do what you think instead. "

That one killed me, Ed01. Seriously tho, great read, man. We seem to be the architects of our own problems with this inverted FB schtick so the less said, the better. Also, who's idea was it to start Macca after playing in Bolivia of all places. I took one look at his face when the cameras zoomed in on him and he looked like he hadn't slept for at least 24 hours prior. Again, architects of our own issues.

One more thing. We need to start games a lot better cos we cannot keep slow-walking at the start and expecting the same results cos had Wolves gone 2 up, we simply do not win that game with the way we were playing. Must do better here.

{Ed001's Note - that was a bizarre decision to start Mac. Not just because he was knackered, but also because he just is not good in that position anyway.}

Nice one Ed. The annoying thing is because Trent wasn’t playing that becomes the reason we had a poor half with those tactics. They’ve become so blind sighted that they will always have an excuse for it not working.

The positives are that even with this deployment we have amassed a very enviable points total and if nothing else, our plan b clearly works. Maybe that is the real tactic after all. Lull them into a false sense of security and get them to concentrate on prepping for an inversion then BAM! Smash ‘em with a hammer.

{Ed001's Note - let's hope you are onto something Quo!}

I'd like to know how many times Joe Gomez (I've never known a game with as many Gomes / ez in it lol) got on the ball in the inverted RB position because, from my perspective, it was a very minor aspect of the first half.
Liverpool started with a stock 4-3-3. Except that the forwards were garbage with little movement and couldn't retain the ball.
The midfield were even worse if that is possible, looking like they were running in treacle and had never passed a football in their entire careers.
I'd say only Quansah and Robertson, and maybe Allisson, came out of the opening half with any credit.
But let's blame it all on a side-show tactic and stick the boot into you know who while we're at it.
Anyway, it's a game of opinions.

{Ed001's Note - so you don't think that the tactic which allowed them to constantly overload down that side was anything more than a sideshow? It may be opinions but yours is stretching credibility to say the least.}

Ed, great review as always. Every poster on here looks forward to them.
What are your thoughts on the 4-4-2 as a formation for us? I think formations are debated too much generally BUT the 4-4-2 looks excellent for our squad. Given we are still one short in midfield (in my opinion we might need one more physical presence in midfield to win duels), I think the 4–4-2 allows us to remain compact while allowing our main strength (attack) to flow and use quality to beat opponents.
Lastly, I think the partnership between Jones and Szoboszlai could be outstanding. Szoboszlai is a potential world-beater with amazing quality, but I still think he looks for the direct pass slightly too often, causing too many turnovers in play. Jones is excellent in his pass selection and maintaining general control of the ball. It’s a nice balance.

{Ed001's Note - it really should depend on the game. It is fine against Wolves, as they are lightweight in central midfield. Play against City and it might well be a different story though.}

Great review Ed- I honestly thought Szobo was decent in the first half. Just everyone else around him seemed asleep. Apart from that I agree with everything else- so I’m sure you’ll feel vindicated ?.

Good read, and 10 out of 10 for the coach carter reference, love that film, you realise that you have to get a film reference in every review from now on haha.

Big fan of Nunez’s link up play being vastly improved Ed001, I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned much but it really seems like he’s worked on that aspect of his game. Nice review Ed ?.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Eps. I really like the way he works with Salah in particular. Those two seem to have a real understanding.}

Point taken Ed001 but, equally, teams have been overloading Liverpool's RH flank for several seasons now?
And was Gomez skinned whilst he was in his normal RB position?
The only way to counter that is to play a conventional 4-4-2 and have Trent elsewhere in the team.
Let's just say that Liverpool can line up in multiple ways, which is a good thing. None of them are perfect but it's a matter of weighing up the positives and negatives.
When it was tried last Saturday, the negatives won lol.

Salahs understanding with everyone's off the charts. nit surprising coz he's the wonder ?.

Ed01 if we try this whole inverted FB Schtick vs City, we will get absolutely pammed esp. with Doku out there with all that freedom and space to run into.

{Ed001's Note - hopefully we won't, as the lack of width will be an issue going forward as well against them. They are too strong in the centre to try and take them on head on.}

Edd001. What's happening regarding endo? Fitness?
Also What way would you set us up against city? Would you also play endo as our 6 pushing mac further up.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what is happening with regard to Endo, he might just be being integrated gradually. Klopp does this sometimes with players, gives them a taste and then they barely see a game for months.

As for City, depends on who is available. I would probably play a double pivot like we did in the second half though. But it depends on who is fit for both sides.}
