Thank f#@k for that, can you imagine the hysteria if we’d lost?

Crowd sounded good ? - nice to hear Arne getting serenaded a few times, and Mo. And was that a new song for Hugo?

And well done Mo Salah on the 250 - bit of confidence back hopefully. Classic Salah goal.

Quick one on options for left wing. Gakpo will need a rest at some point. I like Rio but he’s probably not ready to start in the big games. But Wirtz could play there…would mean we don’t compromise the midfield shape. Do you think we could see this in the games this week?

I can see wirtz playing as false 9 or 1 of 2 no.10's who play furthest forward in next couple of games. Considering calibre of opposition, city+real, I think it's possible we go that way.

i think we certainly need to keep the midfield 3 the same (fitness provided) as last night, long time since we looked right in midfield and last nite is something to build on.

Digger10 - I agree. with a stodgy 3 man MF behind him, like yesterday, he can drift around and find space anywhere. He runs and presses, and although not as physical as our MF's, he could easily match bobby, once settled and re-trained.

Who would best fit the 2 in a 4-3-1-2? Could Isak be the odd man out?

@Digger and @Johnny, I agree. Wirtz is such a talented and gifted player, he can play near anywhere in the final third potentially however, his best position right now is till the no. 10, IMO. hence as I have always said, we have to build a wall behind him with a double pivot in order to let him cook, something you are alluding to with a diamond. The only issue with that is that our FB's right now are good enuff on the ball to provide productive width right now, IMO. Maybe with time, that will change when they are well integrated.

Having said that and based on the more than solid perf. from last night, we need to continue with what works and see that out first before we start thinking of how to (re) integrate Wirtz or whatever new signing we made into the team. got to prioritise results first till things get better, IMO.

We might not always need a stodgy 3 man midfield albeit it did look good against Villa especially Szob pressing from the front. When we play teams that play the Utd low block and long ball, we need to figure out a formation that still allows us to defend adequately, win duals / second balls and where we don't look open in midfield but can fit in Wirtz to provide some creativity.

This is what the team has struggled with so far.

It’s not been about hysteria mate it’s been a real shambles and Slot hasn’t been very good to date. Hoping this is start of a comeback as we all want the team to succeed
Up the champs.

Weren’t the crowd singing for Arne to be sacked in the morning? Or is that just half the posters on here?
Much improved performance. Szobozlai looks plays like the offspring of the Ready Brek kid and the Duracel bunny. Seemed like he sprinted a marathon. Salah looked a lot like Salah, for a change, and Robbo reminded us why sometimes a rest is as good as a transfer.

Even Konate looked like his Madrid transfer had been called off.
Good response from Slot and co. We really need to kick on from here, starting with a win against Madrid.

Yeah I agree war machine, if we playing likes of Burnley at home, I think wirtz as part of midfield 3 is grand but I do think against the better opposition we can't afford wirtz as part of the 3.
At the minute Anyway, maybe in time that will change but Certainly not at present.

Great to see Macca getting back to his best. Heard on the telly this morning that Macca had a hernia, not sure if true, but would explain a lot. MF 3 looking more like themselves, still think Gravy needs to hold a bit more, Gakpo is going to need a rest, my opinion, Wirtz drifting around the left side and coming in could suit him, i think that was his posistion for Leverkusen .

Fingers crossed for tuesday now. We are in the Anny upper, should be a great atmosphere. UP THE REDS.

Macca and Mo looking like their old selves was the biggest difference for me.

Still a lot of room for improvement ahead but a good first step in our recovery.

02 Nov 2025 14:31:58
Well put, Stevie. Macca for once, looked fit, strong and at the races. That was my main beef. Macca was never fit and didn't have a preseason hence, Slot was wrong trying to play him into fitness. No Can Do, for me.

IMO, that won't work and also, Slot was doing that to the detriment of Macca and the team itself cos in this day and age, you can't afford passengers (in terms of fitness) in your midfield. You will get bullied for fun.

02 Nov 2025 14:34:02
I'd loooove it if we toasted Real. I feel Alonso is probably a bit ahead of Slot in terms of development as a manager at the moment - it should be a great battle.

I wonder if trent will be right back in the changing rooms, or if he'll be used to exploit our weakness with long balls.

02 Nov 2025 15:48:13
Slot was wrong trying to play Macca into fitness but Macca looked good last night as he looked fit and strong after being played into fitness.

Another pearler from Woli.
