Think a big part of the gap between us and Arsenal this year is setpieces. From open play there's little difference. What that says about Arsenal, considering how bad we've been, is open to debate.

Not to mention, Arsenal look like they can defend.

Arsenal have serious squad depth in fairness, Flo, massive difference compared to us. Horrible team to watch, but they have a serious amount of options in every position.

The 2 teams are set up completely differently, Florian.

Breaking things down very simply, we pretty much have 6 players attacking and 4 defending. You could even say 8 attacking and 2 defending at times, but we lack a proper structure, so it changes.

They have 7 defending and 3 attacking, and it's extremely structured.

You never see a midfielder going beyond the striker. If anyone other than the front 3 score, it's from distance or a set piece, so when the front 3 aren't scoring, set pieces become extremely important, which is why they've worked hard to find a cheat code which the refs have failed to punish.

I'm not sure I've seen us play a game this season where we've had 6, 7 or 8 players attacking.

Squad depth always looks bad when underperforming. Injuries have hit us badly, but I still believe this squad is capable of performing at a high level if they are set up properly. I.e Ed001 have a good account of Konate's effectiveness in previous seasons as opposed to this in another thread.

If your hunting plan revolves around asking a Falcon to run and a Hound to fly, you shouldn't be surprised when you go hungry.

Then you've not been watching, JK.

We regularly leave VVD and Konate on their own at the back, fullbacks high, midfield on the edge of the opposition's box and even making runs inside the box.

I'm not saying they attack well, but they attack. It's how we ended up getting beat by Forest and PSV so easily. We leave ourselves so vulnerable to a counter. We've addressed it a bit by not taking risks with the ball, but that's made us boring.

The players still go forward though, and VVD is scared to leave space in behind, so he drops, which leaves a huge hole between the defence and midfield. It's the main problem with our set up.

You'll never see Arsenal leaving themselves that vulnerable. They are much more defensively connected, which makes them hard to score against, but their front 3 aren't very good, so they struggle to score goals in open play.

Of course I've not been watching Beckers.

Pointless even engaging with you. Your toys will be out of the pram soon and you'll write and article on leaving the site to only return 3 days later under a different username.

Good to see though the Varry Benison username gets you tickets again ?

Ah, I realise the squad depth, digger, but they can only put out 11 at a time, and even when at full strength they play no better football than us. Like Varry says, their manager is more defensive and craves control even more than Slot. But fair play, they're a lot better defensively than us.
