Let's give the new manager a chance with the players he has at his disposal.
You never know, he might just turn out to be the brilliant coach that we need. Had to take a chance on a manager. Even Alonso/Klopp/any other manager would have been a risk. Can't wait for the season to start and see some proper entertaining (hopefully winning) footy again.
Last season was very poor by any standard. If he can get a good season out of VVD that will help everywhere else on the pitch. Nothing drains confidence more than a dodgy defence.

VVD wasn't perfect this season, but he was still one of our best/most important players. He was literally babysitting Konate and trying to train up Kerkez. Not to mention the softest midfield we've had in a long time and a useless front press. He's 35, so he's not the super hero he was 2 years ago but he's still elite in the air, in open play and both boxes, super reliable in possession and still wins his individual duels.
He's lost a touch of that wicked pace but he's still quick.
Fixing what's going on around him is far more important.

Vvd was poor regardless, constantly running away from attackers and backing off way too much instead of squaring up against them. Let's not make excuses for him.

VVD and CON-ate were one of the main reasons why LFC had our worst defensive record since the Premier League was started, 10 PL defeats for one example, made doubly worst as we were the defending champions last year!
Andoni will certainly start every LFC player off on a clean slate, and form his views on your future not your past. Leoni(19) and Jacquet(21 in ten days) have never played in the PL, to go a full PL season with an inexperienced centre back pairing, would be a risk?
Though if your good enough your old enough is what they say, and injuries and suspensions could make you have no other choice if needs be, i would think an experienced CB is on the imminent radar of Andoni.
His absolute number one priority has to be replacing the Club Legend who was top goalscorer every season since first joining in 2017 bar last season, when every LFC player had a season long holiday courtesy of Mr Slot's Anfield Circus, him being the number one Clown! Mo also took the penalties so that's another job for Andoni, and will it mean a new club skipper for VVD? if deemed not fit for purpose, or he leaves also?

I'd argue that we need to look beyond last season for Virgil's form. I'd say he's had one good half season out of the last three. Our title winning season under Slot wasn't great in the second half of the season.
