I think the start of the season so far proves a point or 2 about what a team v a select group of decent players can do.
We hear the “on paper” remarks often. On paper this squad is great, on paper they should take them to the cleaners, etc, yet we forget about the important ingredient ‘the creation of a well oiled, in unison, team in a team sport.’
Like I was with our side in a non-successful season following a pretty significant set of changes in the transfer window, if I were a fan of those that seemingly failed yesterday after fair spend, I’d not be overly worried and I’d get behind the build and hope the foundations are strong.
It is also why I'd not want significant change this year again. A chance for the squad that was in build to see the cement dry and rock on with final touches in hope of some decoration.

People desperate for signings, when the very best are in shirt supply, so everything becomes a punt.
Barcola had pace to burn, but tends to need wide open spaces to run into, rather than bus laden traffic jams, so even he is a big punt.
What we have on side are players' preferences.
