As stated previously, we're working to make a bid for Adam Wharton. He's keen to play for us.
The cost is lower than what the media sources say ...
At the same time, CP have an arduous task to bring in a replacement in time. Make of it what you like.

Going into the last two weeks of the window, negotiating with Palace over a player to whom they haven't a replacement lined up. That worked out last summer didn't it?

Just leave the midfield as it is. 3 out of the 4 won the league. Who does Iraola drop for Wharton? Szobozlai and Gravenberch just signed new deals. I think Macallister leaves on a free in 2 years, so go and get him next year.
Palace are a nightmare to deal with, so left it a bit late to get a late deal for their best midfielder.

My uneducated guess would be that Jones is gone, so now there's more of a need for him.
He may have been a target even if Jones stayed, but now there's room for a good squad player.

Ornstein has just released an article saying Wharton isn't for sale this summer and Cp have rebuffed an approach from Man City.

We spent months and months last season decrying Slot for not giving players a chance. Jones is leaving, and Nyoni looks ready to step up and cement a role within the squad. Why don't we trust AI to take a lad with massive potential into a first class player? Saves us literally £100m and addresses the all to bring the youngsters through.

WDW, the intensity of play is very different now. We need more top players to rotate if we are to challenge in all competitions.
