The weeks rumours how me, Blair the senile old fool knows it.

Let's start with Coric, the Croatian wonder boy. Many clubs seems to be touting this talented little midfield maestro but mark my words the kid does not want to leave Zagreb at this minute. He is enjoying his football at a level where, at present he can gain experience and will use this as a platform to potentially bigger and better things but that time is not now. Chelsea wanted the player and I believe from an old friend who worked at the club they were willing to send him back to Zagreb on a 2 year loan. His father told CFC his plans for the young boy and they are in no immediate rush to commit Ante's future to a particular team. I think another year or two in Croatia may suit the player and maybe if someone leaves he'd be a realistic option for Liverpool.

Brandt, nice player this guy. I have been impressed with his direct approach, looks to run at players using height and strength with a solid delivery and accurate final pass. He is a player Kloppo knows and tried to once apon a time sign at BVB, it would make sense that he's a player Klopp is still interested in now. There are a host of teams looking at the boy, he's a player that would suit the premier league and is a player I'd be happy we signed.

Virgil van Dijk. The elegant centre half is attracting interest home and away with Manchester United pushing for a deal. Now I know my friend Ed001 is unconvinced but at 25, his best years are certainly ahead, he has every attribute to be a top class centre half and I think it would be a sterling buy. It's not the player now I'm sold on, it's the player he could become under my beautiful Jurgen Klopp.

Sam McQueen, the newly converted left back and I don't see the need for the boy. Keep an eye on Jordan Amavi would be my tip, a much more credible link.

Many thanks, enjoy your afternoon.

Blair.

Decent bit of banter that T.
Appreciate your opinion, and what Klopp decides to do, is sound as a pound with me.

I got a text message the other week regarding Barcelona citing a move for young Phil Coutinho possibly next summer. Now, whilst that is probably NOT news to most of you what followed certainly got me thinking. The lady who sent me this message has no reason to lie, in fact her contacts within the German game are far too credible to discount her.

The news is Barcelona originated but stems from The Bayern Munchen camp with Thiago Alacantara claiming to people within the club his brother Rafinha has been courted by Liverpool. I understand contact was made this summer and the feelers went out regarding a transfer to LFC before of course we signed Wijnaldum. Certain claims are being made that Barcelona are willing to offer up Rafinha as part of a deal for Coutinho this summer and another player could also be engineered into a deal (My hunch here is Aleix Vidal) .

Anyway take this as you will, this being a 'rumours page' I thought it would give you guys something to digest.

Ed002, if you can elaborate any more that would be excellent. I understand Rafinha wasn't mentioned on your podcast though (smashing job by the way) .

Cheers.

Blair.

{Ed002's Note - Rafinha was indeed a player looked at by Liverpool (and Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG) but that was in 2013/2014 when he was at Celta and it was not clear if he would get an opportunity at Barcelona. He went on to be a regualr player in the team and aside from losing most of last season to injury he has continued as a regularly used player. He also primarily plays in the same position as mane who I doubt that Liverpool will be looking to put on the bench so I cannot see why he would think of leaving Barcelona for Liverpool. If Liverpool have made contact with the player that would be a potentially significant issue as the club has sailed far to close to tapping up issues in the summer (with the authorities already informed of this). I am not aware of Barcelona considering offering the player as part of any deal for Coutinho.}

1.) 14 Nov 2016 12:46:56
Thanks Ed002, I will take what I have been told with a pinch of salt.

Cheers.

2.) 14 Nov 2016 17:18:08
A woman doesn't need a reason to lie Blair. 😄.

3.) 15 Nov 2016 03:58:49
Maybe lie to impress, Ron?

This may keep your pallet hydrated red fans.

Liverpool have in the past month checked out Mehmet Ekici but looked to have opted on signing Gotze ahead. Jonas Hector, Timo Horn and Kevin Volland are also being strongly targeted as Liverpool prepare for summer recruitment.

Can also confirm Skrtel will leave in the summer. I'm sure there will be more added to the list as time progresses.

Blair.

1.) 06 Apr 2016 21:00:31
Were you got this info from?

2.) 06 Apr 2016 21:35:47
Thanks Blair.

3.) 06 Apr 2016 22:42:50
Ekici is not very good. I would rather an injury prone gotze to be honest. Volland is someone I could get excited about. Horn, Volland and Hector would be tremendous acquisitions and be an upgrade on Moreno, Migs and Ibe.

4.) 07 Apr 2016 03:11:56
Hope we do not go into another transition season due to too many changes.

5.) 07 Apr 2016 03:38:26
I've heard the same about Goetze and Hector. More specifically, Liverpool have been weighing up Goetze's injury record.

6.) 07 Apr 2016 09:30:32
Gotze and Volland? I have to say that would give us mouth watering options in attack. Coutinho, Firmino, Sturridge, Gotze, Volland, Lallana, Ings, Ibe and Origi. That is 9 players competing for a maximum of 4 spots though. I think it would be goodbye to Sturridge if this is the case. For all Lallanas haters, he is happy to fight for a place, works like a trojan, and has finally added goals and assists to his game with 5 goals and 8 assists already this season despite being in and out the side.

Sturridge on the other hand will not be impressed with having to compete for places (see his time at Chelsea for proof), is stil a massive liabilty in terms of fitness and doesn't press at all. Firmino, Coutinho, Gotze and Volland would probably be the first choice quartet. Ings, Ibe, Origi and Lallana will all happily fight for gametime. Sturridge, Benteke, Balotelli and Sinclair are all in the same category though as they seem to think they deserve to start every game and be pandered to. None of them try hard enough on the pitch. I can't see Klopp putting up with players who won't put a shift in.

7.) 07 Apr 2016 10:12:32
Never really seen volland play, any good?

8.) 07 Apr 2016 18:05:38
Volland is a very good player.

9.) 07 Apr 2016 08:54:52
I might be mistaken but haven't the Eds said that Liverpool haven't shown any interest in gotze nor made contact with BM? Why do people continue to assume we are signing him? I don't get it.

10.) 07 Apr 2016 23:54:06
Some people just lv a name. How many heard of Xavi Alonso or Sami hypia before we bought them?

11.) 08 Apr 2016 07:50:40
The eds are not always right, they give good info but get plenty of things wrong, Some people hang on every thing they say on here.

12.) 08 Apr 2016 07:53:47
Hmasson2-Xabi Alonso was a Spain international and had just played for Spain in the Euros, everyone who has a decent interest in football should have known who he was.

13.) 08 Apr 2016 20:29:43
Also, he was one of the revelations of that season 02/ 03 when a wildly unheralded Real Sociedad team with Nihat, Darko Kovacevic, and Oscar De Pedro (great left foot) ran Real Madrid of Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo, Raul and the galacticos all the way till the end for the La Liga title before succumbing at the tail end of the season. Alonso was NO way an unknown player.

Jurgen Klopp has come to our club and promoted an attractive, passionate and highly offensive style of football. In football comes setbacks and disappointments, Liverpool FC aren't the exception to this unwritten rule. The way I see it the believers will keep believing through the bad times as well as the good, this was our first loss in 15 games so this is really not such a bad time for LFC at present. At the start of the season if I said we'd be 3rd, level with City, 9 points ahead of MUFC and 4 pts off top by November i'm pretty sure you would've taken it right? i'm also pretty sure a big reason for us losing yesterday was partly down to the absence of Joel Matip who has adapted well which showed in November as we conceded just 1 goal. We lost, big deal but the solutions are there and for sure we need another centre back but its not the biggest problem LFC will ever face. Klopp will get it right, he will also get it wrong like all coaches but i'm pretty sure his rights will outweigh the wrongs by the end of his tenure. Please stay calm and enjoy the football, it's a very positive time to be a LFC fan.

Blair.

22 Nov 2016 10:57:46
Good morning you terrible lot.

First of all I sincerely hope the weather isn't affecting any of you too bad and everyone is safe and well.

Now the game with the round thing. Whilst sat by a roaring hot fire at the Lamb and Vulture, enjoying a mince pie listening to some Chubby Checker I thought I'd peruse this site and stalk the banter pages in search of optimism over the weekends game. I'm struggling to understand certain persons disappointment with a point away at Southampton, a good team with a good style and a good manager. Have Southampton all of a sudden become a team that lie down and get beat at home? Should they owe us a favour after all the many millions we have spent with them 'Spend £100m+ and get a FREE 3 points' per se. After all, many forget they finished above us last year, we lost there as well last year so surely a point gained is a step forward no?

My advice is don't stare too long at The Mirror of Erised, you may see Mamadou Sakho drinking a Gordons and Tonic with Jurgen Klopp or even more, Liverpool parading The League title through the streets of Liverpool. Top four would be rather nice this year and we are in with a good chance of winning the league but don't jump on the back of the club if the league doesn't happen this year.

Keep calm, have a Cheddarfield and enjoy the entertainment,

Merry Christmas, lots of Love November.

Blair.

go on, what is a Cheddarfield? I've looked on the webs but I can't find it. Cheers.

4.) 23 Nov 2016 09:24:54
Known to many of the South Virginian hill billy folk as Chesterfield. When I smoked, I used to call them Cheddarfields but saying that I was only 7 years old at the time.

Got to say Coutinho is a very, very special player. In years to come we will be saying how lucky we were to have such a phenomenal talent. Not only a magician on the field but impeccable off it, I'd have to say he's our most talented player at the club but I'd say our most important player right now is Firmino who else would agree?

Blair.

{Ed002's Note - So who would you replace them with next summer if you had, say, £100M to spend?}

1.) 11 Nov 2016 11:36:59
Coric seems to have a big future Ed and is certainly attracting a lot of interest from various clubs and while I agree that Coutinho is very special I think we would find it harder to like-for-like replace Firmino just because of the rare combination of attributes that he has.

2.) 11 Nov 2016 11:39:46
I would try using the 100M to entice them into staying, but hey let's just see what happens, and enjoy his skills while we have them at our club.

3.) 11 Nov 2016 11:46:43
Depay or Max Mayer?

Baz.

4.) 11 Nov 2016 11:28:43
Out of curiosity Ed, how would you spend that £100 million? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - A nice house in Sausalito.}

5.) 11 Nov 2016 11:36:59
Coric seems to have a big future Ed and is certainly attracting a lot of interest from various clubs and while I agree that Coutinho is very special I think we would find it harder to like-for-like replace Firmino just because of the rare combination of attributes that he has.

I would try using the 100M to entice them into staying, but hey let's just see what happens, and enjoy his skills while we have them at our club.

{Ed002's Note - Actually, you would not have the £100M if they were staying.}

7.) 11 Nov 2016 11:46:43
Depay or Max Mayer?

Baz.

8.) 11 Nov 2016 12:24:46
Suarez back as part of the transfer, or no deal
😜😜.

9.) 11 Nov 2016 12:38:06
What a horrible thought, I'd like to think we wouldn't lose both of them in one window. Replacing the goals and guile would be difficult to say the least.

10.) 11 Nov 2016 11:58:30
No way ed, keep our best players and build around them, there is no guarantee that the replacement (s) will be able to bring to the table what Coutinho brings, I would much rather have a quality player than a large sum of money in the bank.

11.) 11 Nov 2016 11:59:23
NO ED02. Money will take back inot yet another transition without a doubt. We are notoriously famous for transition. No doubt we will buy some but it's the same cycle that keeps repeating. 3 years down the line the next one goes.
Let's keep him and land the league.
Top of the league after 13 games. Let's go for the big one.

{Ed002's Note - No other club goes in to transition when a player leaves except Liverpool.}

12.) 11 Nov 2016 12:41:25
Ok ed002. I guess we'd take a griezzman straight swap. Otherwise I'd spend all the 100m on You.

13.) 11 Nov 2016 13:13:42
Seriously Baz? Memphis Depay?

14.) 11 Nov 2016 13:30:27
Ed002

Hi ed. Well, scary thought them two leaving but nevertheless interesting question.

Think we could relatively cope with the loss of one. Both leaving would be a massive void and could set us back seasons.

Given our recent and not so recent history of big money spends, I'd be less than optimistic that we'd spend that sort of money (£100m) as well as we should.
Klopp though has and could prove to be better.

What about you ed002, what do you think would be the best way for Liverpool to replace those two players in the possible event that they depart next summer. taking into account what is realistic for us.

I understand that a lot may hinge on where we finish come May.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this one.

{Ed002's Note - It is a case of finding others who fit the system and brining them in. Players are transient and come and go all of the time. Whilst both players are very good there are plenty out there to look at.}

15.) 11 Nov 2016 12:54:28
I'm getting paranoid about firmino now, not heard of any interest and I'm sure the club wouldn't let our two best players go in one window, would they?

16.) 11 Nov 2016 14:08:45
I'd probably just play Origi through the middle and sign Carrasco for the left wing.

Carrasco, Origi and Mane sounds good to me! Don't forget we still have Ings, Sturridge and all the lads from the academy as well.

17.) 11 Nov 2016 14:22:19
Suarez aside we do tend to view our players with rose tinted glasses and make our players better than they are. Coutinho is a very good player but he is not irreplaceable, a hazard, sanchez et al would be as good or better and i am sure there are options out there that none of us have heard or think of. For instance who heard about or considered firmino or mane before they joined.

I am in no way suggesting we cash in but i will not be castigating him or the club if we do and will wait with good anticipation for whomever Klopp decides to replace him with. That may include utilising one of our excellent youth players like ojo or kent or spending 80m on the new messi which i don't think we will do btw.

18.) 11 Nov 2016 14:23:58
Personally I would get one of Draxler/ Meyer/ Brandt to replace Coutinho if it were to happen. I don't think any of them are better than Coutinho at the moment but they are all young and they could each become special players.

I'd also get Kasper Dolberg with the money. Another very special talent who could offer a different element to our attack to help make up for the loss. He scores and assists so I think he would fit in well.

19.) 11 Nov 2016 13:01:03
Haha fair enough Ed i walked into that! what about all that imaginary money we always talk about us spending every transfer window ;)

{Ed002's Note - I am cool with you spending all of the imaginary money you want.}

20.) 11 Nov 2016 13:03:47
Ed002,

Its not about signign th most expensive player in my opinion its about signing the right player be it £3m or £30m. Klopp has a knack of unearthing gems instead of going out and buying the ready made thing so that in mind i'd probably have to say (my personal choice) Malli, Brandt or Patrick Hermmann. I'd be slightly wary of Herrmann's previous injury troubles, but the medical side of things is something I know little to nothing about so I can form a strong opinion on that.

The Bundesliga strikes me as a division with copious amounts of attacking talent and is also a league Klopp knows much abut. Who would you go for Ed?

{Ed002's Note - I am going to keep thinking about taht.}

21.) 11 Nov 2016 14:41:01
TJ

That was lol. Y would you spend £100 mill on ED02 ha ha 😂.

22.) 11 Nov 2016 14:43:15
If we lost Coutinho I would try to bring in Mahrez for the left and/ or spend the lot on Aubameyang. Klopp, however, would probably spend it better than me on three or four players I've never heard of (that ultimately win us the league! )

23.) 11 Nov 2016 14:55:59
I'd be gutted if Coutinho left. But I am confident that in Klopp we have a manager who would be able to identify the right replacement. With any luck Coutinho can realise his ambitions with us now that we have a top class manager and a team that is clearly going in the right direction and playing really good attacking football.

24.) 11 Nov 2016 14:58:05
Depay? Please.

25.) 11 Nov 2016 16:07:58
Pulisic and Griezmann. I watch the Bundesliga and IMO, Pulisic is going to be a special player. Griezmann is probably my 2nd favorite attacker behind Muller.

26.) 11 Nov 2016 19:21:38
If Coutinho were to go, I would look at Luan, the kid from the Brazil Olympic team. He looked like another Firmino to me. I would also look at Julian Draxler, Alen Halilovic and James Rodriguez. And even Delle Alli, why not? Paulo Dybala would be a dream, a very expensive one.

27.) 12 Nov 2016 23:52:59
100, million to spend?
You could buy 100 Pogbas for that.

10 Nov 2016 13:23:39
Ed001 or Ed002, both your opinions are greatly valued.

Do you think we need to bring in a replacement for Mane this Jan (due to the ACON)? I think i'm the only one on the planet who thinks its a ridiculous suggestion. We already have Wijnaldum (played there previously), Origi, Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana who can operate those roles and Sturridge can go into #9 and Firmino can drop back into attacking midfield.

Also, crossing your fingers and hoping a player from another league will instantly settle seems a stupid gamble and unless Sturridge were leaving again I don't see the need.

We have Ojo who will be coming back into the fold too and I see him as a very nice option for us so where would that leave him if we bought another attacking option?

Thoughts are appreciated and if love to hear others opinions on this too.

Blair.

{Ed001's Note - no, we don't need a replacement. I think it is more intended as a kick up the arse to the alternatives.}

1.) 10 Nov 2016 15:17:35
sorry but Wijnaldum is not a replacement for mane. i hope klopp doesn't go that route and plays sturridge or origi instead. when mane came off last match we never looked like scoring another till sturridge was brought on 15 minutes later.

2.) 10 Nov 2016 14:55:33
Exactly ed1.

3.) 11 Nov 2016 07:17:50
Didn't Wijnaldum score Wiseryan?

As a one for one replacement they ar not the same type of player as we know but GW is a class player who absolutely provides an alternative to replace Mane in the starting 11.

We should remember that up until his short injury he was indeed part of the 11 starters and proved very reliable and capable.

The thing about GW if you have ever followed him outside of the current city is that he has a fair amount of versatility he can and will score goals too. At Liverpool so far he's played with a smile on his face even when coming on from the bench and has put in solid if not exceptional performances throughout. However he does also have exceptional in him.

In a nutshell a definite consideration for the starting 11 as Mane is away. I'd argue he should be in there now anyway (not as replacement for Mane generally) .

4.) 11 Nov 2016 00:09:27
Lallana can do a job out on the right. We have plenty that can play centrally to cover too.
