Looks like next weekend’s games will be off. Apparently there are concerns about police shortages. I’d be interested to know where they are all going. If the funeral is going to take place in London on Monday 19th, I’m not sure how that would impact matches 200 or 300 hundred miles away on Saturday.

You wait for the righteous indignation about us needing 9 points to win the league and having to play our last 3 games in 4 or 5 days at the end of the season ?.

I would be indignant. Should have just played the matches like other sports. A minute’s silence at the beginning, box ticked. Keep calm and carry on playing football.

Could be a blessing in disguise. Gives Klopp more time on the training ground and our injured players will be a weeks closer to fitness as the international window is upon us after next weekend.

Having to squeeze in 2 games somewhere in the season won’t be ideal but the other 19 clubs will be in the same boat.

@JK - understand the need for us to re-group and totally agree with you but the other 19 didn’t play as many games as us last season - some not even close.

We are usually worse than usual after a break JK.

WDW, not sure what last season has to do with it? What i do know is, if we carry on as we are we won't be playing anywhere close to the same amount of games this season.

All the CL teams will play pretty much the same amount of games, some a few more, some a few less depending on domestic cup runs. This unexpected break hopefully helps us in the long run.

Not sure we can get any worse than we are currently.

WDW agree a re group is needed. If last seasons fixtures are still causing us fitness issues now then it’s safe to say we totally messed up our return to pre season.

We were due to play every 3 days now up until the World Cup so whether it’s now or after the World Cup shouldn’t really make a difference.

Hopefully this extended break now will allow Klopp to get in the players heads because we keep saying it’s a blip but Wed performance was one of the worst I’ve seen under Klopp.

There was barely a rest after last season.
CL final in late May, and then international games straight after.
Most of our lads won’t have finished until end of June.
Probably mental fatigue as much as physical, they’re lucky if they got about 3 weeks off?

I listened to the last podcast from the Ed’s and Ed01 kept saying that the absolute marathon off games esp in the final 4 months of the season playing once every 3 days, knocked the stuffing out of the boys physically and mentally and that much is clear to see.

The boys are short of confidence as a result hence instead of putting out fires collectively, one is waiting for the other to do it and then in the end, nothing is done. The time off we are getting is a heaven-sent IMO cos it allows the boys time to sort their fitness and esp their heads out, wipe the slate clean and go again. When the games will be rescheduled? Not arsed cos that’s not our problem nor under our control.

Wasn’t the CL final like 6 days after the season finished. So we’ve had 6 days less rest than the rest of the teams but chose to come back pre season early so we could go to the Far East for a game against Utd.

This break is a God Send for Liverpool. We needed it.
And the games will more than likely be played after January so we’ll be better equipped for them.
Hopefully Klopp puts the failure of a pre season right, I think he will, it’s great news for us.

Can you imagine if the games went ahead and the minutes silence was met with jeers and boos from the knuckle draggers! No body wants to hear that or read the head lines the next day.

LFC 8

The solution for this problem is buying two world class midfielders who would control the midfield and calm our defense. Unfortunately the window opens only in January.

I know A_S. But let’s see if they can reset mentally and throw a few wins together starting vs a new Ajax.

17.) 12 Sep 2022
11 Sep 2022 20:20:00
Austria, we don’t necessarily have to sign world class (whatever world class means), but two very good players with the ability to get to that level. Sangare and Neves would be my choice. Not that it matters as it’s not my choice.

18.) 12 Sep 2022

The slump in form will be sorted out on the training pitch.
Plenty of thrills and spills to be had yet this season for all teams.

19.) 12 Sep 2022
12 Sep 2022 08:57:13
Austria, will the two world class midfielders suddenly ake the boys no longer completely knackered and mentally tired just by those two midfielders being present in the squad? If the answer is yes then for sure, Klopp and FSG out. If the answer is no (which IT IS) then sorry, you are talking porkies.

The boys are mentally tired and physically knackered, end of. NO world class midfielder is going to help you with that. Ex ample vs Napoli where we just did not have the legs to cope with the, if you put Tchouameni and Bellingham in that midfield, they would have been overran and would have drowned just like the whole team did. That's a fact. 2 players cannot over come the other 8 players being tired and playing poorly.

Your logic makes NO sense so stop spouting stuff. Bottom line is this: We have collective issues from top to bottom (coaching staff included) that need to be fixed collectively. No ONE individual is coming to save us, bro. Even Michael Jordan needed other great players and role players around him to save the Bulls in his prime.

12 Sep 2022 09:44:18
Why is the solution always to spend lots of money (that we may or may not have’? As the coaching staff were saying before the season started, the plan is to bring youngsters with potential into the Academy and ultimately promote from within with the occasional starter who can make an immediate positive impact. Seems a better plan to me to bring in youngsters like Elliot, Carvalho, Bajcetic etc and educate them in the way wife want to play rather than always go the ‘big money’ toute (like, say, Naby) .

{Ed025's Note - good point mate..

21.) 12 Sep 2022
12 Sep 2022 09:46:47
So what do you reckon Oli? Let’s not sign anyone for a foreseeable future and while Klopp do some black magic and increase the strength and endurance of our players.

Tell me why are they tired? The answer is playing far too much and less rotation, don’t you think two world class midfielders wouldn’t ease that burden?

The two players in midfield would make the whole bus stable. Why are our center backs exposed? Coz we don’t have a midfield to stop the counter? Why are teams attacking Trent coz they know he can’t defend and there is no real protection. Why is Fabinho so poor? Coz he has played some N to the power 1500 games so far and is exhausted and there is no real back up.

If you actually play those two players in midfield I can guarantee no team would dare to cross the half way line and attack Mr Trent or pull Mr Gomez out of his position.

Now if you think we are missing some motivational talks then let’s hire the best one and sort this mess out.

Manchester city signed kelvin Philips exactly for this purpose, deep down they are aware at some point Rodri would be pulled over and they would need a player to fill in. What did we do instead? Well we rumbled up on Henderson’s tiring legs and Milners muscles.

VVV

Sorry but sangare is not reaching anywhere except a midtable English club. Neves is class and one we should have signed ages ago. Excellent technique, range of passing and is a controller in the middle. Our biggest blunder was not signing Matheus Nunes form sporting. The lad was begging for us to sign him. A proper press resistant midfielder. The old school Wijnaldum.

Klopp will have a plan and due to the window not being open that plan will need to involve utilising the squad we currently have including the youngsters.

If the players are physically exhausted then the fact that we might not play anymore league games until 1 Oct then it could be a blessing in disguise.

If the players are mentally exhausted after how the league and CL ended then that hangover could last days, weeks or months. Who knows.

With the likelihood of a few players leaving next summer then players will have to come in to replace them be it via transfers or the youth team.

I'd love to see more youngsters step up to the grade but over the last 7 years of Klopps reign only Trent has become a first team regular whilst Jones and Kelleher have made the step up as squad players.

Compare that to what some of his signings have done and as much as some hate transfers we wouldn't have Alison, VVD, Robbo, Matip, Fab, Thiago, Elliot, Nunez, Diaz, Jota or Salah in this squad without spending money.

24.) 12 Sep 2022

JK

Klopp is dying for Thiago to return and that is his only plan coz he has realized he wrongly gambled on his midfield to carry him through out the season. Good chance he would now rush Thiago.

25.) 12 Sep 2022
12 Sep 2022 14:10:27
Klopp will for sure prefer having 2 more world class CMs just like every fan. How do you propose this when none left in the summer AS?

This is not FM where you can release players for free. If there was no interest in Ox and Keita unsure what else the club could do. Can't keep buying players without space made.

You have a point. Chelsea terminated Barkley’s contract by mutual consent. It’s possible to terminate contract. What do you gain by keeping them and paying them wages week after week.
This shows total incompetence and negligence from the board and management.
They never wanted to sell them in the first place. They simply took a gamble and let’s accept that fact.

{Ed002's Note - No player would accept that now - Liverpool could cancel all their mid field contracts by paying them up. But they cannot join another club now. Nothing to do with or like RB.}
