Away from LFC.

Just wanted to say that I hate Utd. I hate VAR and I hate how all the officials (current and ex), ex-players and generally every Utd supporter currently trying to justify how their 1st goal was allowed to stand against City

These situations need to be reviewed, discussed and condemned so that they never happen again. It's blatantly offside, yet the goal stands

Just needed to rant about something other than LFC.

Ridiculous decision. Clear offside.

But we had a decision go our way against wolves. They need to sort this out.

VAR has added nothing to the game. Sanctimonious journalists telling is "it's not VAR, it's the people using it"

No, it's both. VAR has been a horrendous addition and has sucked the atmosphere out of the game - without even improving the accuracy of refereeing decisions. Just another example of the sport being moved away from match-going fans and turned into nothing but a TV show for the global audience.

Hate it, never wanted it. I'd accept us losing a final on a dodgy decision it meant getting rid of that disease permanently.

I know it wouldn't be the best solution but if the ball goes forward by an attacking player and a player is offside, call it offside.

Adding a subjective nature to offside just seems a disaster waiting to happen. Get it to black and white decisions.

But how rashford was deemed to not impact play baffles me. When ref watch on sky say you got it wrong, you know its a bad one!

I don’t think it would normally bother me to be honest, but as said above the lack of objectivity and getting Trent’s offside decision and Rashfords on the same day clearly shows differing interpretations of the rules, which is never going to end well.

Baz, because I once dated a lass called Mona and she claimed Mondays for her own. She also lived up to her name (and not in a good way) . Hence I hate them as they remind me of miserable times!

What about wolves goal that was not given? Happens to all clubs.

Absolute dreadful how they got away with that. Ederson could of ran out and hoofed that if rashford hadn't clearly ran with the ball or after it, ederson had to stay rooted on his line eyes glued to Rushford. The defender would of cleared it if rashford wasn't in his way. Bruno probably wouldn't of made the run if rashford hadn't gone for it.
Changing rules to suit.
Disgrace.

City defender should have pushed Rashford onto the ball meaning he would be interfering and no foul or sending off as he was offside. Can’t believe Guardiola doesn’t coach them in this.

City can’t really complain given how many they’ve had go in their favour. It’s six of one and half a dozen of another. Personally, I think it’s a half decent idea badly implemented by imbeciles. It should be used the same way as in sports like cricket and tennis where there is a limited amount of reviews which if you’re review is unsuccessful, you lose one of them and if it’s successful you keep it, and each side has a limited amount per half. That would help to make it a system that works and doesn’t interfere for its own sake.

Sorry VVVV, that's a terrible idea.

1. Cricket is a set piece sport. After each delivery there is a break and a clear amount of time in which a review can be invoked. How would that work in a sport where the play does not necessarily break? If there is a possible offside, do the defenders all call a team meeting to discuss calling up a review or do they continue defending if the ball hasn't gone out of play? It will be comedy.

2. In cricket the play occurs in a small area which the bowler and the wicket keeper can see clearly. Who on a football pitch has the perspective to make a call on offsides? Only the linesman has the ideal view.

3. Footballs are not that intelligent. So many of them go down without a touch, claim a goal when the ball hasn't touched them, claim fouls when clearly they were the ones fouling. You can't put that much trust in their hands. Literally all of the reviews will be squandered.

Ever the contrarian, I have come here to say that I really like VAR!

I like how they are progressively increasing the use of technology e. g. the automatic offside line.

I like how VAR takes the decision away from the usual "it was a split-second decision" and "did he see it, did he not" justifications which were afforded to the referees in the pre-VAR days.

I like how with VAR nobody can blatantly cheat in the manner Ramos did in a CL final, or Rivaldo did to get a Turkish player sent off in a WC.

I like how there won't be an instance of mistaken identity due to VAR.

Life will always be full of grey areas. It is impossible to eliminate all subjectivity and all errors from any real human activity- if you crave absolute perfection in decision-making, play Fifa on Xbox.

I agree that the officials got it wrong in the Salah and Rashford offsides, but that's due to the interpretation of the VAR rules. The great thing is that VAR has filtered out the objectively-measurable aspect of it- I mean, pre-VAR we would be arguing today whether the linesman saw Rashford or not. At least with VAR we only need to focus on the subjective element of the offside rule.

And the Wolves' 3rd goal seemingly incorrectly ruled out was just a freak incident. But if anything, it shows how valuable VAR is. Linesman thought it was offside, without VAR the goal would have also been ruled out. That goes on to show how inadequate a linesman is in calling out offsides in the second phase of a corner or FK situation.

VAR is the best change in football since the scrapping of golden goals.

And how man u fans try to justify it haha.
Well that's the rule. Bollox.

{Ed025's Note - it depends on who you support really, i would say over the last 5 years liverpool have had more than their fair share of decisions go for them...after all your not known as liVARpool for nothing, years ago it was fergie time and utd were the darling of the refs...but now its liverpool closely followed by city, i suspect that if your manager is a massive moaner as well as your players and supporters then the officials tend to favour you, it worked for SAF and now klopp and pep have taken up that baton with aplomb..

15.) 16 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 20:36:11
Everton would be top if that were the case ed025, closely followed by Arsenal and then City.

{Ed025's Note - your kidding WM we are the unwashed and penniless mate and get nothing, only the sky 6 get preferential treatment mate as well you know..

Come on mate your goalkeeper should have gone to jail for attacking VVD and what happened…. Nothing. What about that idiot who pushed Firmino into the stand and got nothing. Richarlison every game cheated and got… nothing.

{Ed025's Note - you are talking about the odd high octane derby WM, im talking about 10 years of favoritism from refs who have constantly got your backs mate..

That goal for Utd vs City should NEVER have stood. Bruno by running to the ball and getting ready to shoot shows he was interfering with play cos it stopped the City players from intervening cos he was clearly offside. Wretched decision.
