Come on guys, I know Salah hasn’t been at it at all this season, but how come Trent and the defence seem to be getting off Scott free here. Imo they are the worst out of all of them. Even VVD when he is fit, hasn’t exactly been great. We are so easy to play against. I remember watching Hansen, hyypia, great players like this. We always has a solid defence, until the sort of Rodger’s era.

But like this at the moment is pathetic. If Trent is the answer I really despair for our future. I’ve never seen such a bad player who looks so disinterested. Take no responsibility for countless errors and permanently being out of position. Think he gets a bye ball cos he’s from the area, knowing him though, the bye ball would be a corner which he wouldn’t defend.

I’m sick of watching him. The team is so bad with him in it. A blind man can see this. Get a proper fullback that defends and you will see more productivity from the right midfield and forward line for sure

Trent has shown what he can do when the team is functioning. He’s a supporter to he’s probably as fed up as the rest of us and you can see it. He’s had Gomez and Matip behind him then someone like Henderson Elliott or Keita ahead of him all season. Any right back would struggle. He’s our best playmaker and should have protection from the right centre back and right centre mid. I don’t think Bellingham is that player though he looks better in the final 3rd to me.

Trent has actually got better as a defender as this season has gone on. For all our problems lately - he hasn’t really been one.

Might be worth watching his interview after the game at Anfield earlier this year when he was with the sky boys pitchside . He came across really well and couldn’t be any further from the disinterested lad you paint him as.

And if you are going to talk about salah maybe if he occasionally got in the same post code as Trent he may be even better at his job.

Trent was never a consistently good defender but his ability going forward from that position always outweighed the negatives for my in a functioning team. Now we are not functioning his plus points are not being displayed to outweigh the faults. Not all his fault though, the defence has always looked weak the second VVD came out of it. Now he seems to have lost his form as well it has looked weak regardless of his inclusion all season. That said I do think Trent would be better in Hendo’s position. He all the attributes to be a class midfielder and should have learnt enough by now playing at FB to offer good support defensively on that side, even if he isn’t the best defender naturally.

It’s true Ed. His 1v1 play has noticeably improved from the start of the season.

I mean it couldn’t have been a lot worse earlier in the season granted but he’s improved.

He’s not where he needs to be by a long way but he isn’t getting worse. That was my point.

{Ed025's Note - im sorry wassa but i cant see that, most wingers have ripped him a new one this season mate, but i will as a caveat say that he has not had much help from his fellow defenders and missing midfielders mate, hes very good attacking wise but defensively a liability, and his attitude needs to change as well imo..

As wassa rightly says trent is decent one on one defending and he's shown that several times this season. He does fall asleep sometimes but who from our defence doesn't atm? The trolls are out in force tonight.

Trent has been hammered on here all season long. His best assets are his threat in attack yet our tactical changes have completely negated them - think of that logic, two of the best attacking fullbacks in the league and we’ve changed tactics so they’re far less effective, it’s borderline negligent. And if we’re criticizing defenses, which has been a recurrent turns on here, then Matip and Gomez need to shoulder the brunt. VVD has been poor to, Konate has been in and out with injuries - realistically o think midfield and defense need upgrading this summer. Tactically though we should at least utilize having Trent and Robbo, rather than stifling their best attributes with our new tactical approach.

"We always had a solid defence until the Rogers era". What tha football? When did that ever happen? You see, this is what we are being afflicted with due to our poor showing in the league. People go back in time and remember the "good ol'" days when this or that or the other happened that was great whereasn in reality LITERALLY NONE of that is true.

If we had a good defence under BR, we would have run away with the title in 13/ 14. We conceded FIFTY goals that season and everyone said that would hurt us and it did. We couldn't defend a set piece to save our own lives hence, we had to outscore teams which would eventually be our undoing, IMO. Oh and one last thing when BR was asked after a loss as to why the defence was playing poorly, he literally said "That's not really my problem". Good grief!

People used to say Trent “spammed crosses” as he broke assist records. Did he put in a single cross against wolves or chelsea or brighton? We’re not set up for him to flourish. Imagine Ozil at madrid picking the ball up off the centre backs in his own half. There are players who are finished Fabinho Henderson Gomez etc and top players in bad form Thiago Trent VVD Mo.

OneKiss, I didn't watch the whole game BUT I did see in the MOTD highlights where Treant bends an absolute peach of a ball to Darwin that sent him one v one with the GK to beat and he fired it right at him. Not a cross BUT a peach of a ball and if Darwin scores from there, we are talking about a really good assist from Trent. Does that count as a "cross"?
