I was one of the biggest advocates of not buying any players during the summer window as I believed allowing slot time to assess the players he can trust and ones he can’t, it’s glaringly obvious that it critical additions are signed this transfer window, however I fear it won’t and another great chance to bring home no 20 will vanish before our eyes.
Some steel in midfield is needed and another centre back.
Lads look exhausted and it’s midway through the season.

The daft thing for me was not having a plan b to Zubimendi. Holding out for a so called unicorn midfielder made no sense then and makes even less sense now, we usually do well with our second choices, Robertson, Salah and Mane were all second choices to the players we’d wanted (Chilwell, Brandt, Gotze) and they were far better than what we’d wanted as first choices. Personally think we should have gone with Ederson, as he’d have added some energy, defensive nous and physicality to our midfield. Still, all academic now. I’ve reconciled myself to the likelihood that we’re not making any additions this window and the probability that our title challenge will run out of steam. There almost feels an inevitability to that. Still our dear benefactor St John of Massachusetts will be happy with a top four finish and and so should we.

Stay positive, even if we dip and get 88points, it’s very likely that will be enough this year.
10 Jan 2025 20:07:51
@VV, let’s not forget that Liverpool didn’t panic buy when they were frustrated with the purchase of their first choice CB, VVD, even though the need for a CB was blatantly obvious. Hopefully the transfer team have plans in place to get the right player rather than a player to fill a void. Time will tell if Hugh’s blows it, if the lead slips away in the second half of the season due to lack of reinforcements, he will hopefully be gone at the end of the season as an unbelievable chance will have been missed to will the league while City have floundered.

We won’t sign anyone and we won’t win the league! Boo hoo! Jesus Christ Viktor, give it a rest. Honestly, what is the point in supporting a team if all you do is moan all the time? We are top of the league, top of the champions league table, in the semi final of the league cup and still in the fa cup. Every other team in the land would swap places with us!
We might not win them all, we probably won’t, but why not try and enjoy the ride? Rather than worrying about the probability of inevitability that it will all end in disaster…. just because we failed to sign a second choice midfielder, that we may or may not have been interested in.
10 Jan 2025 20:29:52
If the alfs are exhausted, especially in midfield then it’s Slot’s own fault.
10 Jan 2025 20:31:18
I agree VV Ederson was and is still my first choice.
10 Jan 2025 20:45:55
FFS, we are top of the league, 6/ 10/ 12 points ahead of our most likely title rivals, and a game in hand, what’s with the pessimism?
10 Jan 2025 21:11:31
When you walk through a storm an all that, but this lot are trying my patience. Them lot behind the scenes will be sitting there all smug us being top of league with the only expenditure being on couple investments for future sales. We are going through a blip the teams around us will catch up soon and like last season we will fall short. If I was Trent I would be off I will be gutted when he goes but I wouldn’t be staying here if I was him. As much as as we hate RM they exist to win trophies, i don’t feel we do anymore. Top 4 and make a profit will do.
10 Jan 2025 21:40:18
Blip? One of the best games I can remember was in the 80’s (I think), a 3:3 draw when the great Liverpool team were in their pomp and MU managed to put it up to us, I doubt many saw it as anything other than our biggest rivals having a good day, and us having a ricket.
I’m not TAA’s biggest fan, I’ve made that clear, his defensive/ concentration issues have cost us at some of the most important times, but his attributes outweigh his shortcomings so I don’t think he should leave. It is also very nieve of you scouse John to think that the Madrid fans will show him the same patience and understanding that Reds fans do, so if you would be off, I’d hope you would be bright enough to understand the risks, you only have to look at Phill to appreciate that the grass isn’t always greener.
10 Jan 2025 21:42:48
You’re right John. Everyone’s entitled to opinion, but we’re too happy to accept second best. It’s all there for us to win, some are just along for the ride.
{Ed025's Note - and some are just here to moan JS,
top of the league
top of the champions league
still in all the cups
very strong squad
excellent manager
very good players
not a lot to complain about in my eyes mate, the window is still open as well..
10 Jan 2025 22:16:57
One title in 34 years Ed and we were top after 27 games last season then… didn’t. Scepticism is fine and justified given we just want to win.
{Ed025's Note - and what happened to the "best supporters in the land" Frode?, with the emphasis on SUPPORTERS, if you were languishing in mid-table and not playing very well then i could understand mate, truth is you are head and shoulders above everyone in Europe at the moment (cue broken heart) and yet all you seem to do lately is moan, moan, moan, just sit back and enjoy the ride would be my advice mate..its your time, your destiny and you are above Everton...what more could you want?..
10 Jan 2025 22:21:41
The only time it matters about being on top is when its over not now. We do need a couple if players in to help us kick on in fairness. Hughes has had since the summer to sort out who and if he gets nothing done this window i think everyone should be calling for him to be sacked.
{Ed025's Note - but you are guessing that nothing is being done behind the scenes NM, IF things change like you dont bring anyone in and you lose the lead you have and start dropping down the league...then that is the time to whinge, not now my friend..
10 Jan 2025 22:38:56
True that Ed. We’re doing great but with a push in the market we could have the prem at least. And then it could be our decade or at least a few years of domination.
I’d hate to fall slightly short, and then look back with regret as you never know when this opportunity comes back around. Even with a good squad and great manager, we saw that with Jurgen, City dominated because they hardly ever faltered.
Good luck to your lot, could be a new dawn. Great for that part of North Liverpool as well with the new stadium, particularly if you start winning matches regularly.
{Ed025's Note - cheers JS, believe in your side mate you are in a great place at this moment my friend...just try and enjoy it..
10 Jan 2025 22:58:32
25 - you know what it is about Liverpool fans mate, so many suffer from inferiority complex and they mask it as being competitive and trying to be elite. When the boat gets rocky, fans will feel the trauma of 30 years without a league title and then watch out, everyone from the playing staff to the kitchen lady will have their jobs on the line hahahaha.
{Ed025's Note - love it Faith, spare a thought for the rest of us poor bleeders who are in your wake mate..
11 Jan 2025 00:11:38
Everyone saying “but we’re top of the league”, well, league titles aren’t handed out in January and we’ve been in this position more often and failed than we have actually won, one league title since 1990 tells that story, we are beginning to look shattered, we lack quality in depth and the gap we have between us and the rest isn’t unassailable. The hubris and arrogance among some round here is off the scale.
11 Jan 2025 00:19:44
Accepting second best is good, isn't it?
MLK said something about acceptance giving you finite disappointment but infinite hope.
If you expect to win everything, you'll never be happy.
11 Jan 2025 01:05:12
Would Barry Horne be classed as a unicorn midfielder?
11 Jan 2025 08:49:39
What’s magical about the 34 years @Frode. It’s just an arbitrary number to try and add gravitas to a specious opinion? Why not say one of the only two teams to win the league in the last five years? Equally specious but far more ‘glass half full’ eh? Chin up mate, chin up.
11 Jan 2025 10:03:14
@Dday: your reply is drivel mate. Obviously my post has gone over your head.
11 Jan 2025 10:21:49
Viktor - the narrative you're spewing is unrealistic to achieve by the snap of a finger which seems to be th eonly metric that will satisfy you. We have the best depth in the league and will be tested. No team in the league has their 4th choice player in any position as a first choice player for any team in the league.
Injuries happen, and I seem to recall fans on here rolling their eyes at Arsenal and City fans for talking about their injuries.
