I know people have mixed opinions on Guehi (his height, aerial duels etc) and for what it's worth, I think he's a great signing as 3rd choice (ie, as the Quansah replacement, NOT a Konate replacement) But I just can't see Guehi agreeing to be 3rd choice, especially in a World Cup year, so that got me thinking.

Might be a wild shout, but does anyone think (in addition to being 3rd choice CB) they could be looking at Guehi as a potential rotation option for Grav at DM? With Wirtz as a more attacking 10, a lot of fans are crying out for a more defensive option in the 6, and well, you can't get much more defensive than a defender! He's actually got a phenomal passing range, and I think he'd work really well dropping back between the centre backs into a back 3 in possession as we saw Grav do toward the end of the season, which would then allow Kerkez and Frimpong to bomb forward.

To be clear, I am NOT saying play him DM every game, or even regularly. I just mean purely for those games where Grav needs a rest, and maybe we need a pure defensive 6 instead of a pivot, it at least gives us a different option, you know?

I do think we'll see more rotation this year, so if Virgil plays 80% of our games (all comps) and say Konate plays 70%, that leaves 50% of our games in all comps that Guehi could start at centre back. Then if he even played 5-10% at CDM, suddenly he's looking at starting 50-60% of games in all comps, and knows he's first choice off the bench if Virgil or Konate get injured, and knows he's also cover for DM, Right back and Left Back (and he's played all 3 before)

Just want to head your thoughts on it, as if he's interested to join, they obviously must have pitched him something to make him believe he'll play a decent amount!

I don't think Slot would do that.
Grav is not really a DM so I can't see him signing a defender to play there. He rarely plays Endo because it's not his style.

He is ideal, in that he can play 3 positions and is yet to peak.

If it's for the same or similar money we're getting for Quansah then it's a great signing. In regards to positions and player motivation we will never know but if he signs then you can presume there have been positive conversations behind the scenes. As you say he's probably got a guaranteed England place for the World Cup doing what he's doing and more than a few admirers to risk a season on the bench.

I think he’d be a very good 3rd choice, but average Konate replacement. I’m not sure whether the “Guehi wants to be guaranteed that he’ll be a starter” rumours flying around have any conviction to them but if they are true that would put me off too. VVD, Salah, Gravenberch, Alisson have been guaranteed starters. Why would Guehi expect to have this guarantee made? Also not keen on the £50m quoted about when he has 1 year left on his deal. Why not keep Konate, lose Konate on a free in 2026 if he doesn’t sign, and then sign Guehi on a free? I’d prefer that to be honest.

Konate cost circa £36 million when he arrived in the pre- season starting 21-22, and the man who occupied his centre back position was a free transfer Joel Matip, who had 8 seasons for a free transfer, probably one of Jurgens best signings for zilch!

That season 21-22 the man who cost £36 million made 11 league and 29 total apps.

The man who cost nothing that 21-22 season made 31 league and 43 total apps.

Regarding Guehi he is 25 on 13 July 2025 and was the Club Captain (another leader) of the side that just won the FA Cup,
whatever happened to the old saying, if you're good enough you're tall enough, after all he is six foot, and how many top sides now play a big robust target man like WOOD-en top, when top, top sides are now reverting to ball playing, interception, starting moves centre defence players similar to Hansen and Lawrenson, who Sir Bob told them to "SQUEEZE" the oppositions forwards into their own half of the field, and rarely let them get out by good ball possession!

Would Guehi not learn off the Maestro VVD for the next two years also, my own thoughts are I would always prefer a man who wants to play for Liverpool Football Club ( aka Frimpong, Wirtz, Kerkez etc) than one shoe-horned.

If he's good enough for Slot and Hughes to want him and the plans they have for him in the team, then he's good enough for me.

We wait and see if the push for him is real.

Although not my first or second choice, I do see the appeal as he's a leader, has many good attributes and can also cover several positions and systems.
