Ed, have we shown interest in or ever scouted Franco Mastantuono?

Such a talent at his age. Would love him at LFC under Salah in his last year (after one extra year on loan in Argentina)

Gregarious

{Ed001's Note - yes, but he is set for somewhere else I believe.}

1.) 04 Jun 2025 13:42:14
Thank God they didn't accept our initial offer.

2.) 04 Jun 2025 14:28:56
He was top of my lists for no10 until we decided to go and get the best one out there in Wirtz.

Sounds like PSG and Real are battling it out for him.

3.) 04 Jun 2025 14:39:20
He's going to Real Madrid within the next 4 days.

4.) 04 Jun 2025 21:45:55
Thanks Ed.

@FPF I would've seen him more as a RW cutting in than a 10, but yeah looks like RM and PSG fighting for him.

He'd be silly to go to RM after seeing how little game young players like Guler and Endrik get.

Roman saying we've started negotiations for Marc Guehi.

Any truth in it, Eds?

Gregarious

{Ed002's Note - Although he is an ex Chelsea Academy player I am not aware of interest.}

1.) 16 Jul 2024 22:59:23
Chelsea can keep their academy players, end up rubbish anyway.

Look what I found on Wikipedia ?

Dominik Szoboszlai  (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈsoboslɒi]; born 25 October 2000) is a Hungarian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liverpool FC and captains the Hungary national team.

All we need is Tw@tter to "confirm" it then.

2.) 29 Jun 2023 09:50:21
I might go and change Wikipedia to say he was born on Jupiter. It’s really that easy to manipulate.

3.) 29 Jun 2023 10:45:40
It says he plays for RB Leipzig and was born in Székesfehérvár.

HiEds and everyone else,
Long time reader, first time poster.
Do we have any real interest in Jesse Rodriguez from PSG (ex Real Madrid)? Some articles popping up this morning. Thanks

Gregarious

{Ed002's Note - Jese Rodriguez is available (because he has not settled, has been playing badly and has had a dreadful time since arriving in Paris) and has made it clear he wants to return to Spain. If Firmino, Coutinho or Mane were to leave it would make sense - else it makes absolutley zero sense. Right now PSG have shared two approaches for the player - neither of which is Liverpool. I understand a third side is also now showing an interest.}

1.) 07 Jan 2017 11:07:20
That's true. Thanks Ed002. have a good one :)

If Quansah to Leverkusen for £30m + £5m add-ons is true as per Romano's "here we go".

That means we're getting Wirtz for just an initial £70m which is kinda wild for the potential generational talent he could be! ?

I know there's the £16m add-ons for Wirtz but those will come later if we win things so we won't feel it as much with all the prize money etc.

Some deal that!

Ps. Imagine Leverkusen decide to get Elliot or Morton to fill their number 10 void too, then even better!

New German Feeder Club Bayer "LIVER"-kusen!

2.) 22 Jun 2025 15:53:57
If it was that simple the, Ed02 would never have advised that we don't talk money on this forum. He advised as ssuch hence, it is not that simple a calculation to make, IMO.

3.) 22 Jun 2025 16:18:58
I love the fact that every now and again people take it in turns to use some of the wisdom of Ed2 or his quotes like RTFP. As long as people remember him he is not truly gone!

Looks like my title didn't go through fully.

I'm thinking this is how we might line up next season (or one of the ways) .

Alternatively this changes a bit if a CF comes in. I could then see someone like Isak/ Lautaro up top, Wirtz floating in the 10 role but maybe coming in from the inside left wing, Salah a bit tucked in from inside right and FBs bombing forward.

Will be amazing having this type of fluidity in the team.

2.) 13 Jun 2025 15:31:41
Definitely feel we can improve on konate and also left attacking position. Diaz and gakpo are good players, not top players. a lot of money being spent atm. Certainly hope we get a quality 9 and stay away from Gordon.

3.) 13 Jun 2025 16:04:14
Poor lad Bradley, no one is placing him in their team, not at RB or RWB, I know we have a new toy, but the lad has been great, I’m confident he will go from strength to strength.

There appears to be a number on here who really don’t appear to like our youngsters.

4.) 13 Jun 2025 16:12:38
I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago when the wirtz news broke, I really like that formation, and think it's a strong possibility with the way slot had grav drop back much deeper in the run up to the end of season, and played him as CB a few times. Think Salah would murder it in that formation, and the legs in midfield would be insane.

5.) 13 Jun 2025 16:26:48
I envisage Bradley and Frimpong both getting lots of minutes.

If we remember back at the start of the season Slot was utilising the bench to replace full backs and I don’t be surprised to see that again next season as well.

5 subs is 50% of your outfield players so bringing on 2 fresh quality full backs in modern football is a pretty good weapon to have.

6.) 13 Jun 2025 17:16:32
I did a post on this a little while ago, but I just don't see this squad working in Slot's style without a CF, whether that's Jota/ Diaz/ Gakpo or even Nunez, if no one else comes in, or a new player, Slot has always used a central forward and I don't see that changing now.

I suspect that should Frimpong and Kerkez be playing, we will play with 2 deeper midfielders, 2 of Grav/ Macca/ Szobo/ Jones and Wirtz in at No10, and if Robbo/ Bradley are playing we'll set up more like we did this season with Grav deep and Wirtz and one of Macca/ Szobo/ Elliot/ Jones more advanced alongside Wirtz.

Both of these require someone playing CF so I still strongly suspect we will buy someone. Isak would be perfect for this, Martinez doesn't strike me as fitting perfect, but may be more able to drop deep and let Wirtz/ Diaz/ Salah do the running in behind, so could also work.

7.) 13 Jun 2025 17:19:42
Maybe there is a world where against harder to break down teams Gravenburch starts at CB instead of Konate but steps into midfield when attacking. Like how Slot has gone for broke sometimes when we have been chasing a result.

8.) 13 Jun 2025 18:01:59
We won the League last season without a centre forward. I remember City doing it, too.

9.) 13 Jun 2025 18:41:58
Rigsby we def played with a centre forward last season it’s just 1 was injured and not up to scratch and the other wasn’t up to scratch or towards the end could be bothered so we had to put a Lw there.

But despite that the 2 still contributed 16 league goals and assists with Nunez getting the goals in the win against Brentford and Jota the winners against Everton and Palace and the goals to get a point at Forest and Villa.

10.) 13 Jun 2025 19:42:43
Our efforts in the transfer market so far have been exciting, with a focus on being very creative - Wirtz - and vey attack minded - Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz. If the team is set up as per @Greg’s suggestion we are going to need Ali, VVD, Ibou and Grav to be on top form because our ability to defend the quick counter attack is going to be tested.

11.) 14 Jun 2025 05:58:34
@Kew17 I totally agree with @JK23 - I think Frimpong and Bradley will get a lot of shared minutes depending on who we play against. I think there will also be many games when we're ahead in goals comfortably and we'll take Salah off to manage his minutes throughout the season and Frimpong will go RW and Bradley RB.

Bradley is a top footballer and I expect him to be in our team for a long time if he stays fit.

@RedDawn you're right. I think we'll use both formations to be honest and even have a lot of in-game changes of tactic/ formation. Slot has done that already but now it looks like we'll have even more fluidity/ variety.

@niceaction, no one's paying £65m for Darwin. He's just not worth that in his current form. I think moat we'll get is £40m. maybe some add ons on top of that.

I wouldn't mind him as 3rd choice but not for me if coming to replace Konate (if Konate doesn't sign an extension) . but I doubt Guehi would want 3rd choice.

Ugbes, it could be that Wirtz and his family were told LFC is looking to recruit top players to win PL again etc when trying to convince him to sign for us.

It wouldn't surprise me if him and his dad (his manager) asked what players we're trying to buy etc. All that would've helped win him over at the beginning when City and Bayern were also in the race.

At the end of the day, without Klopp there's no Slot.

What I mean is.

Klopp turned us around.

He changed the culture. He got us challenging again with a much lower budget than City.

People began to believe again.

He overachieved by getting the most out of the team he had. He really got the best out of players who would've been very average in a different team under a different coach.

He won things. He elevated our status AND standards again.

In my opinion, he set up the foundation for the club to push on.

Without what Klopp did, we wouldn't have been at the stage where someone like Slot and co could come in, improve on it, win, and get FSG to now go all out for us to grab the bull by the horns and build a team that might dominate for the next few years.

Klopp deserves that credit, without discrediting what Slot is doing in taking us to the next level.

I think Darwin definitely leaves and we definitely get a CF purely because of how many strikers we've been linked to. that tells me the club is putting in a lot of effort in that position now that Wirtz and Kerkez deals get wrapped up.

In my opinion if we can't sign a top CF, we will at least sign either a "stop-gap" CF or an up-and-coming younger player.

If we go for a younger player, then he probably shares a lot of minutes with Diaz and Jota as I don't expect much interest in Jota from other clubs.

Also, 25 goals and 8 assists in 36 games for Atalanta is pretty impressive.

I really like Retegui and I think he'd suit our style.

I also remember reading about him wanting to stay in Italy but that surprises me. I understand thay would be the case for a lot of Italian players but he's not Italian, he's Argentinean and South American players tend to do well in the EPL.

I'd surprised if he wouldn't fancy swapping Atalanta for a few seasons playing for one of the top clubs in the strongest league in the world. Seems odd to me.
