Roman saying we've started negotiations for Marc Guehi.
Any truth in it, Eds?
{Ed002's Note - Although he is an ex Chelsea Academy player I am not aware of interest.}
1.) 16 Jul 2024 22:59:23
Chelsea can keep their academy players, end up rubbish anyway.
29 Jun 2023 03:13:49
Look what I found on Wikipedia ?
Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈsoboslɒi]; born 25 October 2000) is a Hungarian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liverpool FC and captains the Hungary national team.
1.) 29 Jun 2023 08:04:53
All we need is Tw@tter to "confirm" it then.
2.) 29 Jun 2023 09:50:21
I might go and change Wikipedia to say he was born on Jupiter. It’s really that easy to manipulate.
3.) 29 Jun 2023 10:45:40
It says he plays for RB Leipzig and was born in Székesfehérvár.

HiEds and everyone else,
Long time reader, first time poster.
Do we have any real interest in Jesse Rodriguez from PSG (ex Real Madrid)? Some articles popping up this morning. Thanks
{Ed002's Note - Jese Rodriguez is available (because he has not settled, has been playing badly and has had a dreadful time since arriving in Paris) and has made it clear he wants to return to Spain. If Firmino, Coutinho or Mane were to leave it would make sense - else it makes absolutley zero sense. Right now PSG have shared two approaches for the player - neither of which is Liverpool. I understand a third side is also now showing an interest.}
1.) 07 Jan 2017 11:07:20
That's true. Thanks Ed002. have a good one :)

Might be an unpopular opinion, but for some reason Dom reminds me of a young, hungry Cristiano Ronaldo when he arrived at United. just less flashy but in that similar mould of player.
Excited to see him play. Hope it doesn't take too long for him to acclimatise to the PL and it's not another Nuñez-type fail start.
Looks very well-rounded and like he has a big engine.
Let's go!
1.) 03 Jul 2023 05:49:33
I don’t know enough about Dom to reply to your comments there but I do take issue with saying Nunez is a failure or failed start. People look too much at the price tags and expect immediacy without looking at potential or general gameplay. Nunez causes absolute chaos in the oppo back line. 15 goals is not bad at all in a players first season for a new club in a new country, when not speaking the language. That’s only 2 goals less than Suarez scored in his first full season with us, 2 goals less than Fernando Torres in his second full season us and equal/ more than Torres scored in Spain in the two seasons before joining us (13 and 15) respectively in a weaker league. I’m predicting Nunez is going to be an absolute monster next season and hit 25+ goals.
2.) 03 Jul 2023 11:20:43
to be fair, he just said described the start as a fail. So if Nunez improves on his failed beginning then whatever that is will be more than 18 G/ A and you know what, I'll take that for sure.
3.) 03 Jul 2023 11:34:29
"Hope it doesn't take too long for him to acclimatise to the PL and it's not another Nuñez-type fail start. " Stopped reading after that waffle, seriously.
So @Gregarious, what if it does take that long cos that is always a possibility? Would he now be a "Szoboszlai-type fail start, then according to your logic, Gregarious? Pathetic.
If you want to criticise Darwin, there are valid points you can actually make rather than use the exciting new signing as a means to bash him. Sad.
Seriously, who needs rival fans putting him down when we have our own fans doing a bang up job of it even up to using the signing of a new player to bash him. Again, pathetic.
4.) 03 Jul 2023 19:02:09
@ gregarious
Although I don’t agree with your OPINION on Nunez being a failure in his 1st season
It is an opinion all the same
Not really seeing the ronaldo and so boss la comparison either but if il be glad to be wrong on this point . Let’s hope he’s not a pre Madonna like ronaldo .
@alonso from a previous thread
The flexibility we now have and are going to have is insane I do agree with that .
26 Jun 2023 12:42:41
Anyone else has the feeling next season will be super interesting and potentially quite open for the title?
Of course, City are usually favourites but it wouldn't surprise if they have a mini transition. KdB has struggled with injuries and inconsistency. Gundogan has left and B. Silva keeps being linked with a move away too, similarly Walker might go as well. That's quite a few core players potentially moving.
Chelsea and Spurs with new managers and a number of changes too. Arsenal still to be seen how they responds.
1.) 26 Jun 2023 13:06:05
Oops, fat fingered!
Continued.
Arsenal still to be seen how their young team responds to missing out on the title last season.
Newcastle learning to navigate the extra requirements and pressure with CL football. And United still building their team (getting more consistent now though) .
We'll also be rebuilding so I don't know, it feels quite open to me.
Still a whole pre-season and transfer window to go so we'll see but it could be a really interesting season.
2.) 26 Jun 2023 13:08:02
City will strengthen and win it again. Arsenal and Newcastle will also improve and take 2nd/ 3rd. I reckon 4th will be contested by Liverpool and United.
3.) 26 Jun 2023 13:14:32
I want you to be right mate but it's very wishful thinking. City will likely sign Gvardiol and Rice. That could give them a defensive 5 of Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Rice and Rodri. That is ridiculous if they all stay fit. Throw in that their attacking 5 is likely to be Haaland, De Bruyne, Foden, Grealish and Alvarez. Plus Ederson in goal. It's hard to see anyone competing with a starting XI that strong.
Arsenal had a freak start to the season but you saw their actual level in the 2nd half of the season when Saliba, Partey and Jesus started struggling for fitness and form. Spurs are still Spurs and to be blunt they're miles off top 4 let alone a title charge. Newcastle could well struggle to find the balance between Europe and Domestic as Howe and most of the players lack experience. United are a right mess right now behind the scenes and they're at least 5 players short of a title challenge (GK, CB, RB, CM, ST) . Chelsea are continuing with the scatter gun approach which got them to 12th in the first place and Pochettino is a serial failure, who even managed to lose the league to Lille whilst he was at PSG.
Then there is us. If anybody can challenge City it is a good Klopp Liverpool team, but right now we're heavily in transition. A lot will depend on if Nunez, Diaz and Gakpo can kick on really replace Mane, Bobby and even Origi who wasn't shy of a vital goal. Also how well Salah's levels hold up. If Virgil, Fabinho and Robbo can get back to their best. If Trent can find his feet in the hybrid role. If Konate can stay fit. If we can supplement Mac Mac Allister with another 1 or 2 top midfielders. I think we need a season to settle into a new system with a new midfield, and then we can maybe win the 24/ 25 league title if we get it right by the end of this season.
For me, City will run away with it next year. I do think we can be the best of the rest and finish 2nd but City are a juggernaut. I really hope I'm wrong and you are right though pal.
4.) 26 Jun 2023 13:40:03
Not sure about Havertz at Arsenal. I don't think he's the right signing. But I still see them finishing comfortably in the top 4. And Newcastle.
5.) 26 Jun 2023 13:50:46
Newcastle will find next Season A LOT harder. Many teams overperform with no European football. Their squad is paper thin when it comes to quality and they were lucky with injuries last year. It will take more than one summer to fix that. Let's see how they find things when they don't have a week to prepare for each game and they are flying all over Europe.
6.) 26 Jun 2023 14:12:33
Agree with the Newcastle thoughts, Babbity. think they'll find it tricky with the added games and slightly thin squad.
MK, you might be right. could very much be wishful thinking saying City might find it harder next season. One can only hope.
Let's hope we get at least another CM and defender in, and go on to have a solid season!
7.) 26 Jun 2023 14:20:04
I can’t see Newcastle doing as well as they did this last season. Their team is still rather mid table on paper they definitely over performed for me. Will be hard for them to re produce another season like that. Man City Liverpool and Arsenal are the best 3 teams in the league and Liverpool and Arsenal just need to somehow not let City run away with it. Would not mind at all if Halland and De Bruyne went missing or had a serious season ending injury. One can only hope.
8.) 26 Jun 2023 14:21:35
In my opinion the Premier league is already over. City have won it again ?
It’s ludicrous to say but its pretty much over now.
9.) 26 Jun 2023 14:28:50
City are losing or potentially some top quality but they will simply throw money at it and bring in more quality players and will be big favourites to win the league again.
Utd are at a cross roads due to the Glazers greed but if that takeover gets done then they will have a bigger budget to what they already have.
Newcastle as has been pointed out have a weaker squad and CL football but I expect that squad to be bolstered in this window and wouldn’t be shocked to see them out of the CL in the group stages so it’s 6 extra games for them.
Arsenal are being linked to some quality but they need an out and out striker so Havertz is a strange one.
Spurs are in a transition period for the 6th year running and Chelsea are a club that can go one year of being abysmal and the next challenging for honours.
We’ve signed a proven player in Mac Alister and are now being linked heavily with potential.
We went down the potential avenue last season and signed Nunez (who had a decent first season) and Ramsay and Carvalho who have both been shipped out on loan.
We signed Arthur hoping he had the potential to squad fill but he spent more time in the Physio room than our club doctors.
Next season will no doubts be another exciting one but whilst we have been lucky enough to be title challengers under Klopp during his reign I think next season we’re just as likely to in a race to finish top 4 as we are to be in a race to win the title.
10.) 26 Jun 2023 15:29:48
Man City will probably win. We'll be second within 5 points.
Everyone else will be 10-15 behind.
Just watch.
11.) 26 Jun 2023 15:41:46
Str8talker, have a word with yourself, bro. Embarrassing.
12.) 26 Jun 2023 15:42:54
I suspect we ll have a fairly new midfield. I just don't see it all coming together in one season for a title challenge. I hope to see the foundations for a future challenge.
Arsenal should improve the team but they have champs league distraction now and they are not used to it.
United will improve but not enough.
Chelsea have talent but are all over the place at the moment. They need to settle under new ownership and I suspect it will take a season or two for them although I suspect we see that upturn this year but far from a title challenge.
Newcastle too early for them.
Nothing is a forgone conclusion is sport. City winning the league isn't a forgone conclusion. They need to go and do the job. But I suspect they will unfortunately.
13.) 26 Jun 2023 16:25:27
City, more so, if they buy Rice and that expensive centre back, then they must be backed to win the Prem once again,
they are bringing in top class players, while on top winning form,
LFC should have done much better, while they were on top .
its not all doom and gloom tho .
we will do well in Europe this season, and get Top Four,
but we are buying players that we should have brought in over the last two years,
so this coming season, Top Four,
next season, Win the League .
14.) 26 Jun 2023 16:48:34
How does the 115 charges affect City's transfer plans though?
Genuinely, as a player, if you were approached by them would you not be worried? I mean if it was 1 or 2 charges then maybe you'd think somebody has made an error or something, but 115? Would players approached about possible transfers not be the least bit worried about that? Or do players simply not care?
Genuinely curious - you'd think you would be concerned over something like that, but truthfully i'm not even sure - or do they just think, like everyone else, City will pay a fine and that will be that?
{Ed002's Note - It does not impact their plans.}
15.) 26 Jun 2023 17:21:29
Bill, city won’t be penalised for a while yet if at all.
16.) 26 Jun 2023 17:45:07
City will get 90 odd points again i think Arsenal will be closest again then below that who knows only concerned about us and we need to do a lot of business in the next couple of months to try be successful.
17.) 26 Jun 2023 17:47:54
I reckon poch will get Chelsea playing decent football. Some good players there for him. Would not be surprised if they got top 4 I’m glad we play them early on. I think Howe will be under pressure from Christmas onwards and the way the media pour pressure on I wouldn’t be shocked if he was fighting to keep his job. Arsenal us and Utd will depend on how any new signings settle.
18.) 26 Jun 2023 20:21:22
Really hate to rain on the parade, but next season will be super competitive. Man City - like us - had their 3 season dip, and will be stronger next season. Pock will have Chelsea playing at the level their spend warrants. Ten Haag is a good manager. Will Newcastle and Arsenal drop off a bit? Possibly so. But the league will be more competitive - in terms of the big 6 - than it has been for 20 years. The London clubs and United have generally been a bit rubbish during our ding-dong years with City: I fear that is over.
19.) 26 Jun 2023 23:03:01
I think, nothing earth shattering her, that it’s City’s to lose.
After that it is anyone’s guess.
Newcastle and Arsenal look to be solid teams on an upward trajectory. Arteta seems to be showing he has what it takes to be a good manager and Howe has the money to keep Newcastle going the right way.
Chelsea with Poch - providing the club stop playing silly bu##ers with signings - can’t be any worse than last year and Spurs with Ange, who is a winner with masses and masses of determination (as a human being he seems share a lot of Bob Paisley’s characteristics) will improve considerably.
Then there’s us and United. With the departures and the incomings still up in the air the one thing that hasn’t changed is that we don’t have a squad to get us close to City. United are seemingly not getting what they want in the transfer market and the Glazers are seemingly trying the patience of potential buyers which, hopefully, they’ll continue to do throughout the transfer window. Ten Hag will struggle to keep control of the buss if they get off to a bad start. One can but hope.
Then there’s Brighton they look like losing their midfield but I think De Zerbi looks like he knows what he’s doing.
So for. Me the two things that seem obvious at the moment are City will Winn the PL and we are still about 2 or 3 players away from where we need to be to put us in the battle for 2nd to 4th places.
20.) 27 Jun 2023 09:26:13
WDW, what 2 or 3 players, in your opinion, and what positions, again in your opinion.
21.) 27 Jun 2023 12:45:32
City will nail on win the league, i would expect either the treble again/ quad or an unbeaten season from them, the rest prop up the league.
22.) 27 Jun 2023 21:31:29
You've been flaunting your crystal balls again, eh Lanc-y baby?
07 May 2023 06:23:08
If 3 of Southampton, Forrest, Leeds, Leicester go down, who would you consider buying from them?
Probably an unpopular one as most people want the most expensive top players, but you can find excellent players with potential in relegated teams like we did with Robbo when at Hull.
For me personally,
{Ed001's Note - Lavia, Gnonto and Dewsbury-Hall.}
1.) 07 May 2023 07:02:03
Definitely Drewsbury-Hall. He would be very good in our system. Seems a tireless player, with good technical ability to boot.
2.) 07 May 2023 07:48:52
Bella kotchap from saints looks a good prospect aswell from saints.
3.) 07 May 2023 08:05:03
Be all over Lavia,19 years of age a top top player. A Caicedo before he became Caicedo if you will (isnt that the kinda player were always moaning we never sign? ) .
4.) 07 May 2023 07:22:15
Oops, I fat fingered and posted before finishing.
I was going to say Dresbury-Hall and Lavia like you, Ed001. And I also think Brennan Johnson is a real talent.
- Dresbury-Hall I'd love in our team even if Leicester doesn't go down. U think he'd be great for us, maybe expensive though?
- Lavia playing with a lot of maturity for a 19yo.
- Brennan J I think would be a great understudy to Salah and potential successor but not sure if limited game time would be his choice.
Any good CBs you can see in those teams, Ed1? Pascal Struijk good enough squad player if one of Matip/ Gomez goes? I'm mindful we got Sepp too though who I think is very good.
{Ed001's Note - not a fan of Johnson for us, I don't think he is good enough. Maybe Bella-Kotchap or Salisu could have the potential to make it.}
5.) 07 May 2023 08:59:52
There are rumours that we will only go for UK / Prem proven players this window to avoid Naby shaped problems. This means paying a premium, and that Caicedo is out of reach. I wonder then how much Lavia would cost, and if its 40/ 50m that's a hell of a lot for a 19 year old.
I look forward to FFP regulating market prices, one day.
6.) 07 May 2023 09:40:08
Lavia, Bella-Kotchap, Alcaraz, Walker-Peters from Southampton.
Danilo and Navas from Forest.
Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester. What happened to James Justin? He always looked good in the past. Harvey Barnes form has dropped off a cliff. Watch him have a standout game against us on Monday now.
Tyler Adams at Leeds - though his post World Cup form has dropped off a lot. Gnonto looks ok but not convinced. Meslier has loads of potential but needs to add some aggression to his game.
7.) 07 May 2023 10:53:24
Lavia, for sure.
03 Mar 2017 07:07:16
Hi Eds, not that I've seen any rumours but remember seeing some in one of the previous transfer windows. do we have or have we ever had any interest in Gary Medel from Inter Milan?
This is more of a personal question as I'm from Chile and he's one of my favourite players, who I think would be an extremely affordable and effective CDM who can also cover in the backline (he does it for Chile) . His passion and work rate is second to none and he's a big time leader. Nicknamed El Pitbull for his tenacity he'd be the Chilean scouser haha.
Thanks.
{Ed002's Note - This is not the place to ask - we cannot be expected to deal with questions about random players. But the answer is no, Liverpool has no interest and he will not be moving this summer.}
1.) 03 Mar 2017 08:34:05
At least he'd bring some passion to the team.
{Ed001's Note - and it would make me happy as I have been wanting us to sign him for years!}
2.) 03 Mar 2017 14:39:41
He is exactly the type of midfielder that we need and I'd love to have him but we can only hope.
3.) 03 Mar 2017 19:47:04
Still hoping, tho.
4.) 04 Mar 2017 09:17:14
Thanks Eds and everyone for your replies, and sorry if I shouldn't have asked that.
To be honest, he's such an underrated player and would only cost like 10-15M. Oh well, I hope we get a good CDM. Thanks.
27 Aug 2024 22:59:55
I don't think Rabiot is coming. The other ones possibly.
26 Aug 2024 23:32:30
My guess is he would share minutes with Salah as Mo can't play every single game. Then he'd take over the position when Mo leaves.
I like Chiesa when he's in form after an extended playing time, he can be a very good player. but the injury track record is real rough.
I imagine with 1 year left on the contract he wouldn't break the bank in terms of sign on fee, not sure about wages.
07 Aug 2024 14:56:48
He's a very good player and starts for Argentina. I think he'll do very well in Spain.
26 Jul 2024 16:56:54
Diaz doesn't fit at all Slots tactics in my opinion so highly likely to go would be my guess.
25 Jul 2024 04:44:04
Sepp and Phillips likely to leave so we'd need another CB (at least) in the squad. Also we're one VVD injury away from being in a terrible place defensively so you'd think the CB coming would need to be seen as a starter.
20 Jul 2024 08:47:00
Sorry to hear, BurkeyBoy.
I too wanted to play professional and got to play at semi pro level here in Brisbane/ QLD but also had a bad injury very early on.
It was very tough dealing with it all mentally. Even saw a therapist about it now in my 30s to bring closure to it which was one of my best decisions.
Keep an eye on your son over the next few years and don't be afraid to suggest seeing someone about it if you notice him struggling to get past it.
20 Jul 2024 08:37:31
I think DM and CB are pretty evident areas that need taking care of. I don't think you need the full squad or everyone settled to address those two areas.
But it seems the club has already been looking at players in those positions so maybe just a matter of time before we see something materialise.
05 Jul 2024 10:59:07
I would really like Joao Neves from Benfica. He'd be too expensive so no chance we're going for him but we're just talking hypothetical cases we'd want.
He's young, maybe a bit inexperienced and probably super overpriced, but I have a feeling he's going to be world class. I think he'd be absolutely perfect for us.
26 Jun 2024 15:58:36
We need more variety in tactics. Klopp was quite stubborn and set on the same shape/ formation at times.
Play players in their positions.
Be ruthless with change in personnel when needed.
14 Feb 2024 11:03:34
Roony is a kid. He ain't fitting as a Salah replacement, not many are let alone an 18yo from the Danish league.
I've watched him a little and although his dribbling is really good, he's not quick enough for the PL in my opinion.
