Hi Ed001,

Hope things are well. Just out of curiosity, if Alonso is to be sacked with the growing tension at Madrid, would he be an option to replace slot if he can’t turn this around?

Also, if he was an option, would you prefer Iraola or Alonso as I know you said previously you like Iraola.

Finally, we seem to be getting more injuries than we did last season. Any idea why? I thought we used to be able to prevent injuries quite well last season but it seems when the tough gets going it just gets worse. Is it to do with the regression in our intensity, even in training, as well as on the pitch? I can’t believe how this season has gone. Thanks a lot and appreciate the work you and all Ed’s do on the page.

{Ed001's Note - Alonso would be an option, yes.

I would not mind either, I don't really have a preference, other than my adoration of Alonso from his playing days.

Lack of fitness.}

Thanks Ed, the lack of fitness is really concerning. How are we massively behind other sides?! Slots even getting the basics wrong.

{Ed001's Note - fitness and conditioning coaches have got their way and it shows that Klopp was right all along and they were wrong.}

I wonder if the obsession with fitness zones is somewhat to blame for the overall lack of fitness.
I. e., constantly monitoring but never building up a proper base.

By God he was absolutely right ED01!. there's no way on earth we would or could have sustained the performance levels and results without being Klopp peak fit and hungry. The mental attitude in being that well tuned is also huge. It just promotes a never beaten approach to games.

{Ed001's Note - the high intensity in training spread to matches, we need it back!}

Ed, would the squad be more suited to alonso or JN do you think, or are they similar styles of manager?

{Ed001's Note - better suited to Alonso, I am not sure Nagelsmann would be able to handle the big egos.}

Alonso has a connection to the city and the fans, knows what the culture of the club is, he would surely be way ahead of Nagelsmann in any potential list of replacements purely for that reason, any manager who comes in has to have a rapport with the fans and know how to harness Anfield to their advantage.

Alonso is cool and aloof, but he has always been vocal about loving the club long after he had left.

25 Nov 2025 16:33:02
Not sure I 100% agree with that Patrick, I think the club would pick a manager for whom the squad would fit the style, first and foremost.

No time for Alonso as manager after he snubbed us as Klopp’s successor.
He loves the club and city so much he snubbed us.

Sorry, actions speak louder than words.
He had his chance, he blew it.

Nagelsmann hasn’t done anything to warrant a shot at LFC job.

Ron, maybe Alonso gave his word to join RM before we approached him, only pointing something out that is an unknown as far as I’m aware.

JN, I know he was sought after, didn’t he have issues at Bayern?
No from me.

Ed1, do you think Edwards and Hughes will have a "style" of manager they want to keep consistent? Obviously every manager will differ somewhat. But will the departure from high fitness levels and pressing in the Klopp days alarm them and will they be eager to get back to that with the next appointment?

{Ed001's Note - I would expect so, they chose Slot due to his similarities to Klopp's style, meaning there would not need to be a squad overhaul to be competitive. I expect them to do the same the next time they look for a head coach.}
