My take is that the players have decided they aren’t having Slot. The club are probably taking the stance that they won’t be dictated to by player power. Hence this Mexican stand off, Slot knows that the only way he wins is if FSG agree to break up the old guard and bring in replacements for him. That ain’t happening as if it was it would have commenced in January, thus he’s known for some time they won’t play for him and no matter what he does he’s gone end of the season.

The players are turning up in the UCL but aren’t interested in the league, hence the ridiculous number of last minute goals conceded. You can say it’s because they aren’t fit and that’s probably true also, as Slot isn’t training them properly; however, they are downing tools and making mistakes that are difficult to quantify in professionals at that level. Only Szboz could be forgiven, as he has always tried ?. The rest are messing about.

My personal theory is that Slot probably handled the Jota situation with a complete lack of compassion and then started believing he was untouchable coz he won the league.

The Slot of last season, honest and humble, completely disappeared the second they lost to Newcastle and PSG and once the league was won he then set totally the wrong example to the Liverpool players. The Liverpool way is to park that success and go for more next season, he and the players have done the opposite, rested on their laurels and arrogantly strutted about like peacocks. Every team wants to beat the champions and we have failed to respond to that challenge, no grit, no fight and no pride in representing the club. The death of Diogo should have brought them together, instead the manager has divided them with favouritism and a lack of discipline and dedication to his own job. Sack him and bring in a disciplinarian, if the players don’t like that, sell them then.

Take the captaincy off VVD and give it to Szboz. Bring in a real no 6 with bite and get rid of Salah and VVD, but keep Robbo and educate the younger players what playing for this club demands. We are not a soulless club like Chelsea and City, stop buying premadonnas and start building a squad with character and work ethic. YNWA.

Season was over in November. Nobody cares except the fans.

We didn't sign a player in January. That was the indication that the club is confident it doesn't need Champions League football, and we can write the season off and start a fresh in summer.

Bit low making up things concerning the Jota situation. No matter what people think of him, I don't think anyone can say anything negative towards Arne about that horrible time for everyone at the club, including the manager.

21 Mar 2026 20:45:42
Dougie, I recommend that you don't spew theories and conjecture on the subject of Jota unless you have actual proof or a source. It's not fair. There's enough to criticise Slot on without smears like that.

What numerous sources do indicate is that Slot didn't change much initially, but incrementally transitioned the squad over to his coaching and tactics throughout the course of last season.

Then, when we had effectively wrapped up the league, Slot decided to speed up the transition around March/April last year. This was double-downed on in pre-season, meaning that we had completely divorced ourselves from the Klopp methodology by this season. It's such a shame to see his legacy being trampled on like this.

It's not that deep, mate, Slot's just on the level and the hierarchy figured keeping him was a better option than bringing in Stevie, which is a very sound argument on paper at the time from a neutral standpoint, albeit the wrong one.

You can't just say the players are downing tools in one competition and giving it socks in another. Slot's been found out in the league. That simple. We were always capable of big results in Europe no matter who was at the helm.

Babbity, if all you say is true (which I don't doubt), esp. regarding the divorce from Klopp ball, why is it that we have seen Slot deploy Klopp ball in certain games this season, esp. in the CL where we have the legs to play Klopp ball, whereas in the PL, we are absolutely all a sea playing his wretched style? Cheers, mate.

21 Mar 2026 21:12:48
Babbity, he's trampling on his own "one season with Klopp's players" legacy, whatever that is anyway. I couldn't care less what you recommend. I only care about the club.

21 Mar 2026 20:49:53
Ah you mean the Arne Slot that wanted to sell Jota last summer before the lad tragically passed away. I'm merely saying the fact that the situation hasn't galvanised the group leads me to believe the person leading them hasn't done a good job.

Klopp, Hendo, Milner would not have allowed the team to unravel in this way, I blame Slot and VVD for not leading them better. Their interviews are a joke, I don't dispute that grief affects individuals differently, that's where leadership ought to come in.

21 Mar 2026 21:33:15
Oli, I can't answer that one, I'm afraid, pal. I just know about the transition in coaching and tactics from several journalists and supposed ITKs. We can't say for certain it's 100% truth, but if numerous sources are saying it, it's looking that way.

21 Mar 2026 21:36:13
Dougie, I'm saying you shouldn't accuse Slot of handling Jota's death with a lack of compassion when you have nothing to back it up.

21 Mar 2026 22:11:48
I know what you are saying. you have nothing to back up that he's handled it well behind the scenes either. It's called freedom of speech and it's a rumours and banter site. If you want to be a snowflake that's fine, the Ed's decide what is acceptable, not you

21 Mar 2026 23:15:05
I really don't understand what you mean by this Jota stuff, Dougie, without being disrespectful. People die all the time, and everyone deals with it individually. Whatever your opinion of Slot, he is a decent human being, he's a respectful family man with priorities. I'm sure he was more than respectful throughout, I'm sure condolences were offered, doors were open, and allowances were made for those close to Diogo.

I mean, outside of some sort of strange group therapy sessions, what exactly do you want Slot to do about it? Should he start a charity, write a song, paint a mural?! (And by the way, all of the above did actually happen). So, please tell me, what is it he should have done?

22 Mar 2026 01:41:02
Dougie, I hate to tell you this, but Klopp, Hendo and Milner did let the team unravel this way, and we finished 5th and had a season out of the Champions League. Short memory, mate.

Oli, what Babbity is saying isn't true, so you should absolutely doubt it. The truth is nobody knows unless you are on the playing or coaching staff at LFC. Which Babbity isn't, so he's guessing like the rest of us.

I'm not happy about this season and I have my own theories as to why it's gone this way, and my guess is we will turn it around and be a real force in the next few years. I do think Slot will go and whoever comes in will be taking over one of the best squads in world football. Just my opinion, but at least I'm not making stuff up and passing it off as gospel.

22 Mar 2026 07:28:09
Chewy, prove it. If you're "sure" that Slot is a decent and respectful human being and family man, give me the proof. If you can't prove it, then all you are doing is the same as me, speculating based on your own observations. Do you know Slot, his friends and family, or any LFC players?

22 Mar 2026 07:23:43
Mad as a March hare. when did I pass anything off as gospel. I gave "my take" on what I've observed from the outside. The clue is in the player interviews mate, Salah, Macca, Jones, VVD, Robbo all giving cryptic clue interviews this season hinting at the unrest in the camp with the manager. If you can't see it then try reading Ed01's comments on the subject. Have a pop at him as well. honestly there are some right size 17 in yellow with red toecaps on this site.

Try observing what's happening and why that might be, especially after last season. I'll give you and old chewy Suarez something else to get those buck teeth into. Heitinga was probably the brains behind last season, coached and motivated the players on a daily basis and they had a bit of bite as well (just like he did himself as a player)
Guess what though I have no evidence it's all just scary rumour and banter based on engaging my wee brain cells ?

22 Mar 2026 08:39:53
Exactly, Varry, we had a season just like this mere months after having a right good go at a quadruple. People have very short memories.

22 Mar 2026 09:47:17
Varry, how do you know what I am saying isn't true? I'm not guessing. I read it in The Athletic and Goal.

22 Mar 2026 11:01:29
Dougie, I tried to be polite and respectful about it but I'll be a bit more blunt about it now.

What you are accusing Slot of is calumny and a really scummy thing to do. It's not about being a "snowflake" and hiding behind free speech is not an excuse to be able to accuse people of whatever you want. It doesn't matter if I don't have evidence to back up that Slot has handled it well behind the scenes because I never said he had in the first place. You are attacking Slot's character and accusing him of things that would damage his reputation. Do you understand the concept of defamation?

You are spreading malicious rumours about a very sensitive subject. You have been gently nudged by a few people to avoid doing that and are instead doubling down which speaks volumes about your character.

I have said plenty of harsh things about Slot but I base it on what he is doing as a manager or what he is at least widely reported to be doing. I don't make up imaginary scenarios in my head and use them as a basis to attack Slot's character. Slot, unlike you, actually knew Jota.
