Away from LFC, and back to VAR and the top-notch officials... Did anyone see the incident in the Chelsea v Spurs game last night, where Spurs had a corner, which was retaken because of all the nonsense the players get up to, but with the retake, the corner was taken, the ref blew his whistle, showed a yellow to Cucurella, and then decided the corner must be retaken.

The reaction from the Spurs players says it all... The ref should have given a pen.

I remember seeing a similar situation in the World Cup a while ago when someone got sent off for a headbutt. Turns out you can't give a foul when the ball isn't in play, but obviously you can still get a card for certain things. Fair enough, to be honest. At least that one is a simple rule.

Without having seen it, I imagine the justification will be that the infringement took place before the ball was in play.

The ref might have blown the whistle but VAR said the corner had not been taken.

It's farcical at corners these days. Either book everyone who's dragging people or change the rule to include the ball waiting to be fed in and award a free kick or penalty.

I'd just book all who get involved. It'll soon stop.

I can only assume that VAR decided the foul itself happened before the ball was hit.

Some of the yellows given outside the box, for forwards having hold of defenders then letting go as they turn and fall to the ground, or for the slightest clip or push, compared to the WWE style Battle Royals that happen at corners, is a joke. Unless, of course, you are Arsenal.
