Folks, forgive my pessimism. I am trying to be more up beat. I’m just one of those people who was super excited slot went and we got Iraola. I thought I thought the signings would come thick and fast “because” it was a stinking season so the quiet moments got to me

I just don’t know if I can do another season ticket again based if u know ..

The feeling is another transition year.

But it’s early yes and I hope we address the areas we all want them too.

If anything, the football will be fun again. That is at least better than the mind-numbing slow stuff that we have watched in the last 12 months. Anfield will be "full throttle" again.

The problem is Iraola doesn't have the pull and you will see this throughout the window.
We got so many big signings last year because we won the league and were also terrific in CL, but now everything has gone.

There are no big players either apart from VVD.
Iraola is not a household name, and top players will need to be sold the project extensively or paid over the top. With competition all around it's difficult to land targets.

We are going after top level players that have top level clubs after them, which always makes it more difficult. It's the nature of the beast.

We could just go after lower level players (I'd take Munoz as a good example of that), who are easier to sign because they'll jump at the chance to play for Liverpool.

When you are going after the likes of Diomande, Barcola etc., they have more than one CL club after them who will all pay high wages, so it's a much harder sell to persuade them to come and live in the northwest of England.

Just be patient, I'd much rather us go after our preferred targets than settle for mediocrity just because it's easier.

If we only signed top players last year because we won the league, Wirtz, and will struggle this year - then it's an Iraola pull problem, it's a club pull problem, isn't it? Hardly Andoni's fault that we were pants last year, is it?

I completely disagree with your assessment on that front anyway.

When we made the signings we did last year, everyone thought we were going to walk the league again.

We still have that same squad bar Salah, so I don't understand why people are doubting this squad so much when everyone thought it was Slot who was the problem.

I, for one, am excited to see what AI can do with a squad that has such exciting talent already, plus, we'll clearly make some more additions.

It's Liverpool FC, what is the pull to get players here? The manager helps but not that much. World Cup still on n players are still playing, we will get most of our targets who we go for, im made up we never got Diomande or Barcola, over hyped, 100 mill id want the finished article not potential.

Signings work differently and take significantly longer than they do on Championship Manager!!

What I would say, mate, is the window has been open for 4 days, and so far we've added:
1. Andoni Iraola
2. Tommy Elphick
3. Shaun Cooper
4. Jeremy Jacquet (£60m)
5. Victor Munoz (EUR40m)

It's not what I'd call a slow start!

It was always going to be a transition year, mate.

The idea that Slot leaving would mean we would magically turn into some kind of peak version of this current era just seems a tad hopeful.

@Faith, A bit of self-awareness never hurt anyone.

Signed 2 players for a total of £100m, new manager and backroom staff who haven't had a chance to work with any of the current players, and clearly big deals are being attempted while the World Cup is on. Anyone panicking about signings etc at the moment must be in the "pre-season, it's transfer window time so we must sign everyone, regardless of every other club (apart from Spurs) conducting business at a similar rate to us" state of mind.

As it stands right now, I would put us in a far better position than we were when we finished last season, with an exciting new manager, a much-needed change in style and 2 promising young players being signed.

Compare that with the teams who finished above us last season (Arsenal - not signed anyone, no major deals appear to be close. Man City - signed Anderson, lost B.Silva, and swapped the most successful manager in recent history with someone whose body of work is not particularly impressive. Man Utd - Carrick in 2nd season, Casemiro and his vital goals gone, no major signings so far), and I think we should be a bit more positive.

Regardless of any signings, I'm really looking forward to see how we set up and play next season. The signings are a far second for me.

03 Jul 2026 13:30:28
I'm with you on that. Am excited for the new season, hoping AI can sprinkle a little magic dust on this team and make us an exciting prospect that challenges. Hoping Isaac will be back to his best so could feel like a new signing. Couple of additions and I don't think we're that far off. A team doesn't always have to be made up of superstars and 100m players to succeed and be winners, a couple maybe, but I like us turning them into a global star rather than the other way round.

If they all graft for each other, and play to their potential, our team, at least on paper, if everyone's fit, is pretty decent. Always felt after Mane leaving and Salah slowing we needed some pace on the wings to stretch defences, but if we get the right side nailed, could actually have quite a special team.

Oli, not sure what you're saying, mate.
