We may all be one way or another, when it comes to who we should sign, but I think we can all agree that the talent pool feels thinner than ever before, despite transfer fees being at their highest point.

Some of the players we have been linked with are underwhelming, to say the least. Yet, when challenged to think of viable alternatives, I honestly couldn't come up with a single name in opposition. There is no real option that stands out. Every player named just feels like the same level of chance but at varying fees.

I feel like slowly, and gradually, each new generation of player is becoming more and more robotic, or lesser versions of what we had seen previously.

Less individualistic talent, more system based or risk averse players are coming through.

Might just be me entering my 'In my day, etc, etc' but when I see players like Anderson going for 116 million, Fernandes for 85 million, something just doesn't feel right. Teams are spending more for far less. And that has to be down to limited options at the top, as well as youth development.

Honestly more excited to see what Iraola can do with this side, how he can improve existing players, as well as implement a more appealing brand of football. We definitely need players, no doubts about that, but I have zero idea who I would actually be happy with.

I am very excited by Munoz.

Can't wait to see him play for us.

Think he'll be a better option than people think.

And, whoever we get, I'm convinced Iraola will turn them into world beaters. No pressure.

High transfer fees are actually an indicator of a shallow talent pool. You can blame overcoaching, not just at the pro level, but at youth and grassroots levels as well. Too many U16 coaches trying to be Pep Guardiola, just out there destroying individual style and creativity. On the plus side, I think we've hit rock bottom with the overly systematic rule-bending modern game, highlighted by Arsenal's absolute joke of a league title.

With stricter refereeing hopefully coming in now that it was successfully implemented in the World Cup, I can see a world where coaches look to the creative mavericks again, where the value of risk to reward outweighs playing to technical loopholes.

Let's hope something changes for the better, Chewy, as atm all top flight football is boring me senseless.

We need to see the return of the maverick, as I don't think the increasing Ticket Prices can be justified for such a boring product.

Not to mention the wages these guys are collecting each week.

Couldn't agree more, Mango.

It's been mentioned for a while how football is losing those special special players.

Most transfers often talk about systems, and how players will suit those systems, and what system will get the best out of the player.

I miss the days of Okocha at Bolton, Ginola at Newcastle, Zola at Chelsea, and then you have the Ronaldinhos, CR9, prime Messi and Ronaldo...

those players are nowhere to be seen.

Bring back the flair, the excitement, the natural abilities of attacking players as opposed to the robotic, 1 dimensional systems that are currently being deployed.

{Ed025's Note - count me in JLC..

Completely agree, but I view the 80's as 'peak football' for me. So many incredible Liverpool teams in the 80's, but internationally you had superstars like Maradona, Socrates, Zico, Eder, Platini, Van Basten, Gullit.

Agree with all of the above, used to love watching Brazil, that samba football with individual flair players, now Brazil look like any European team.
