Is it just me or is anyone feeling deja vu with Barcola? It's starting to feel like Guehi all over again. We drag our feet, deal falls through, then it's too late for a second option.
Personally, I'm not that arsed is it's Barcola or not, we just need to sort things out sooner rather than later.

No, it's nothing alike and the main reason why is because PSG have already signed their replacement. The only reason the Guehi deal fell through was because the replacement Palace had lined up, failed the medical at the last minute, so Palace pulled the plug.
Guehi had even done his medical and the media duties ready to sign, so the only fault of the club there was leaving it until the last minute.
{Ed001's Note - the replacement didn't fail the medical, Glasner refused to have him in the squad. He threw his toys out of the pram and said he would quit if they sold Guehi as well. That is what killed the deal. As he only had a year left on his contract, it shows how badly Palace are run that they took any notice of Glasner, especially as he had already rejected a number of contract extension offers and was clearly leaving at the end of the season. I mean Glasner with regards to the contract. A well run business would have ignored him and told him to do the job he is contracted to do and been strong with him, especially knowing he was leaving anyway!}

Would say it is more like the Isak deal. Both clubs seem willing to take whatever is left of the negotiation to the wire.

It will get done. It's more like Isak. Drags on all summer before going through late on in the window.
Personally, once we moved on from Diomande, I would have preferred us to put this much effort into Rayan instead. Barcola is a great player, but what we really need is a RW.

There were a lot more centre backs than Guehi. I don't care about nonsense about Glasner. We were let down and continue to be let down now solely by Hughes.

With you, Shipley, hoping we make one of these out the blue bids for Rayan.

Glasner is a prize walloper. I hope the Forest owner titsmashes him with a hairy udder

I didn't know that Ed, most the reports were that the medical was failed. Maybe that was Palace propaganda to protect Glasner's reputation with the fans.
{Ed001's Note - I don't know, but Glasner blocked the move, so any medical is irrelevant.}

Glasner and Marinakos are a sacking waiting to happen.

Sure, we need a right winger, but Barcola is the precise profile we need to address the problems we had last year, which was the lack of an attacking player with elite pace to run in behind and frighten the opposition enough that they have to think twice about committing bodies forward against us.
21 Aug 2026 12:14:43
I wouldn't say we were let down by the club on Guehi. The deal was basically done. Was Glasner acting the maggot that ducked it up? Loads of deals go through on the last day or two, so how were the club to know?

A full on Greek teabagging

In fairness to the club, Barcola is commonly accepted as the best available winger on the market this summer. Just like Wirtz and Isak were in their positions last summer. One could argue whether the two we signed last year were worth it, but I applaud the ambition of the club.
All three could go on to be superb signings for us. I won't knock the club for trying to sign big players.

Igor Julio didn't fail the medical. He signed for West Ham on the same day. That's why Glasner kicked off about keeping Guehi because Igor was supposed to be his replacement. He chose West Ham over Palace basically.
21 Aug 2026 12:24:14
I heard that when the player in question sat down with Glasner, he basically told him that he didn't want him at the club and he wouldn't play him, so the player rightly chose to go elsewhere.

Jonesy227 - Marinakos yells: "Wear my hairy RayBans, Olly!"
