I see Ollie Watkins is looking for a move out of Villa. Surely as a stop gap signing and back up for Isak he would be a smart signing?

Be an expensive stop gap is the issue. I'd prefer Mateta who also wants out and has 1 year left.

Fair enough, Taurus, I figured for his age we might be able to nab him on a relatively cheap fee... I wouldn’t be against Mateta either, to be honest. I get the sense that the plan is to sign two starting wingers for each side and use Gakpo and Munoz as back strikers.

They won’t do that as we have Ekitike on the wage bill.

For me, I think the number 1 thing that will get Liverpool challenging for years to come is a new sporting director who is not gonna ego buy and actually understands the weaknesses.

Wirtz is a top player but we never we’ve needed him.
Isak was expensive but I like him, he’s a top forward.

We need a right back and a dm and better midfielders.

I don’t think LFC ever really had a major problem with the front 3, it’s the middle 3 and the fullback areas.

And I’m sorry to say Hughes and Edwards have been ego buying.

Every single fan today would swap Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum for all our midfielders we currently have.

And performances like this will continue all season. If LFC get 4th, then Iraola deserves a knighthood as I think LFC are heading for 7-8th at best.

Top players but extremely imbalanced.

Looks like Watkins wants the Saudi money, so not much chance, in my opinion, if it is allowed?

24 Aug 2026 09:59:56
I'd definitely go for Mateta.

He puts himself about, which would make him one of the biggest chaos makers in the league in today's modern game.

Glad you're getting it, JK23.

24 Aug 2026 10:15:51
We're at the "let's sign a stopgap" stage of the window.

24 Aug 2026 10:20:26
Getting there, mate.

24 Aug 2026 10:34:54
That is a top post, @Postklopp. Although I would also add Isak in that "ego" buying category. He looks like Benteke at the moment. Utterly pathetic in every other aspect of the game.

VV, it has nothing to do with where we are in the window and more of the reality Isak is injury prone and needs his minutes managed. Ekitike is out for basically this season and we do not have adequate cover - an Araujo type signing for cf, if possible, would be ideal but unlikely.

The other alternative is promoting youth, but Danns has been hindered by injuries or take action in the transfer market.
