There are two things any new sporting director will need to improve on:
1) Challenging the no business is better than imperfect business mantra that has been our MO since 2017. Too often we have gone short in key positions and paid for it with an underperforming season. That doesn't mean go and do loads of bad business, but waiting for the perfect signings is also harming us often.
2) Being more willing to take a risk on signings that we currently let go to other midtable PL clubs before being priced out when we're more confident of their ability. We cannot afford to pay Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford their valuations, so we need to go earlier on some of these players.

Just appoint an SD that's got great footballing contacts and relationships, a shrewd negotiator, balanced with both sporting/footballing knowledge, and is data driven and is business savvy.
Also, someone who lives near AXA, so that he can pop in and monitor the players and the team, identifying what's the next business/transfer plan.
