Hi guys,

I’m not sure that many fans will disagree but Gakpo has been absolutely outstanding over the last few prem matches. Looking much more like the player we bought a few years ago and more like the one who was doing well under Klopp - perhaps it’s to prove a point, perhaps it’s the new system under Iraola or perhaps it’s the threat of Rio Munoz and Barcola for places.

If he continues to play out of his skin like this then Isak is going to score an absolute hat full this season.

I for one can say I was in the camp who didn’t want to sell and I’m glad the club haven’t made a huge error like they did with Diaz.

The worry is that he may get to January or the end of the season and push for a move elsewhere.

Araujo and Jacquet have been impressive since signing too!

Looking forward to the next game and hopefully a successful window in January where the club can continue to kick on as part of the rebuild. We looked much more like the Liverpool of old yesterday and I for one am excited to be watching this brand of football again.

The club didn't make a huge error with Diaz. He wanted to leave.

Diaz wasn't a mistake; he wanted to leave, plays the same position as Gakpo, and Gakpo's output was better.
In any case, I am glad he is proving the doubters wrong. I always backed him and am glad we kept him. Unless there's a positional shake-up, Brad's going to need to earn his place.

Can't hold players hostage. Diaz has been forcing his way out for 2 years minimum.

05 Sep 2026 11:01:23
Well, so did Gakpo, and we didn’t let him go, did we?

If he continues this form, then surely we aren't dumb enough to sell until the summer at least.

Gakpo did not force his way out. There is a huge difference. Strange people.

How many times do we have to repeat Diaz wanted to leave, wasn’t sold against his will or forced out, he wanted to leave?

Fatwallet, most these people ignore what others say, so the hundreds of times people have told them, diaz wanted out to we won't be replacing salah we play different football, sadly they will ignore the advice and annoy us and especially all the eds with the same crappy questions haha

How many times do we have to say that Diaz made no secret of his ambition to play for Barcelona, like almost every South American player. However, outside of that move materialising, he wanted to be paid in line with his peers. He was the second best forward at the club after Mo, yet the lowest paid player in our title winning first XI by some distance. The club knew that it was not a contract renewal we were interested in due to him being almost 29 at the time.

So we cashed in to the first interested party - Bayern Munich. He and his wife were genuinely upset to be leaving Liverpool. The South Americans at Liverpool were very tight and very happy at the club. Obviously the significant salary at Bayern, about what Florian Wirtz earns at Liverpool, has helped sweeten that move for them.

Let's not let nuance get in the way though eh?

Fair enough fly.

Gakpo’s change in form is simply competition for places. He knows there are 4 genuine wingers vying for 2 spots.
