Interesting comments from Gerrard last night about Macca and his contract. He said he shouldn't have done it in the media and instead knocked on the manager's door and discussed it. Stevie also said about the press that they are doing it in twos but not as a team yet and that Kerkez lost his man for the goal.

Macca isn’t thick. He knows what he’s doing.
He’ll lean into the fanbase and put in some top performances for that new deal. He’s obviously not Mo Salah, but it worked for the Egyptian King.
He gets a lot of stick on here, Macca. He was undeniably terrible last season, but I still see a good player there who’s playing out of position (all 3 of our midfielders last night are number 10s in my eyes).
If fighting for a new deal gets him back to his best, then it can only be good for Liverpool and this new regime.

Yeah, Macca knew what he was doing.
That said, I don't think that the club should be reacting to what he said to start contract talks at all. If AI sees Macca in his plans moving forward, Macca will get it. Otherwise I trust the manager if he wants another person for that role.
I'm even open to Macca leaving on a free like Konate after 2 years, instead of being stuck on big wage and then not being able to sell the player if he's not in AI's plans.

@Kaizer, I guess the club are really, really lucky to have supporters telling them what to do or not do with players' contracts. Apparently. Macca knows what he is doing but the people running a £5bn business need assistance in making their own decisions.

Macca can say what he wants in the media cos we all saw Salah do the exact same thing before he got his deal.
At the end of the day, the club will do what is best and if that means Macca goes (and we get a good replacement for him) then so be it.

I'm not sure we're on the same page, WDW.

WDW, are you implying that you're completely happy and satisfied with the decisions the 2 clowns (Edwards and Hughes) have made in the last 2 years (they were in charge, so techically "the club")?
And regardless of anything, you can't stop people from having an opinion on whatever is happening with LFC, because that's what this site is built on.
