Italian reports saying Juve is an option for Chiesa but only on loan. Apparently the player is waiting for his chances as no Isak or Salah. If I was him I'd be going back, the manager clearly doesn't rate him.

01 Jan 2026 23:51:26
He started last game. Just came on as a sub. The manager is giving him gametime but he's just underwhelming when he plays.

02 Jan 2026 05:40:34
The guy started his first game in something like 18 months.

He comes on late in the games, and mostly when we are losing or drawing, as if he is some super sub who is guaranteed to score.

Chiesa is not rated by Slot, its so obvious.

Credit to Chiesa though, always gives his best, but im sure his patience has limits too.

I would not blame him if he decides to leave.
He will most likely get more minutes in Italy, which could help his world cup chances.

Bollocks he’s underwhelming. That must mean Wirtz is underwhelming then. Chiesa for the most part has done well when coming on and has seriously limited chances when starting. I blame the manager as always for his negligence with Chiesa.

Said El Mala linked with us today. Don’t know much about him, but good we’re at least looking at wide left players.

02 Jan 2026 11:14:13
The whole bloody team is underwhelming. Even Dom who has been by far our best player is underwhelming when he tries to cross a ball or make a decisive pass. He’s about as good on the ball as Konate or Allison.

02 Jan 2026 11:16:36
Yes Frode, Wirtz for all the talk of him on here has been underwhelming. Was actually terrible yesterday, totally ineffective. Chiesa has done well this season but was poor in the wolves game and now against Leeds. To be honest the attacker i wanted to get the ball most yesterday was young Ngumoha. Apart from Ekitike of course.

Florian you are so right. Crying out for Rio and what does he get. 6 mins. Offered more in that 6 mins than the majority did over the previous 84.
Just play the lad.

02 Jan 2026 11:35:58
Just a curious question.

What if Wirtz signed for City or United or Arsenal or Chelsea with the same output as now at the same price with similar number of games played?

What would we be calling him?
Honest response taking out red tinted glasses.

I like his silky footwork with takedowns and want him to come good very badly but why is it taking so much time? With the quality reputation that he came with (generational talent), feel he should be tearing it literally when the general consensus is PL this season is so so average.

02 Jan 2026 12:00:11
Wirtz is generally showing signs of improvement but nothing more. He was very poor last night. If he was at another club we’d be laughing at them, same with Isak. We’re arguably too patient. People point at Fabinho and Robbo and how we settled them in, but they weren’t £100m players. I’d give him a bit longer but he needs to do much better.

If you look across the league over time there have been quite a few big money failures. In relatively recent times of the £70m and above bracket probably Ali, VVD, Rice, and a few at City have paid off like Gvardiol, Rodri, and De Bruyne.

Most other big buys haven’t, Manchester United littered with them, and the likes of Grealish and Marmoush at City. Chelsea have wasted a tonne of money, Pepe and Havertz at Arsenal were a waste.

@Frode, the thread isn't about Wirtz though is it?
Fans have been crying for more game time for Chiesa for months. He got a start against Wolves and was largely anonymous. He was brought on last night and ran around a lot.

I fail to see how he is an upgrade on any of the forward line or what significant contribution he is supposedly making. His enthusiasm is first class and his song is a banger but, other than that, he has been thoroughly underwhelming.

02 Jan 2026 13:20:46
Not sure how people think Cheisa can suddenly turn it on, when he gets the odd 10 minutes every now n then . He can't be match fit with them types of minutes and then people say Oh he never played well, how can he, Slot doesn't rate him in the slightest yet he doesn't moan or kick up a fuss .

If he had real opportunities then we could say he is good or bad.

02 Jan 2026 13:37:43
Chiesa is being prepared poorly, almost setup to fail. The Plymouth game last year was throwing him to the wolves. This season he got thrown in against Wolves and did OK for 45 minutes then got hooked.

Wirtz would be smashing it at Man City or Arsenal. No idea what project Slot sold him but I would love to hear Wirtz version and how it is panning out in reality.

02 Jan 2026 15:16:31
Chiesa can't win with some supporters, barely plays, when he does he gets 5 minutes when we're chasing a game. And he bursts a gut and has assists and goals. Finally gets a start and the haters jump on him because he can't last 70 minutes even though he only gets the occassional 5 to 10 minute cameo! .

He's played on the wing where Salah ( Player of the year last season) has failed in Slots new tactics. Be proud of yourselves lads for lashing a guy who has tried and tried at Liverpool, the YNWA is lost on some of you.

02 Jan 2026 15:47:45
Slot has treated Chiesa terribly should of given him a proper run of games like Salah has had even though he was ghosting through games as well I think Chiesa should leave as the board are too spineless too sack slot which they should definitely do now.

02 Jan 2026 16:06:49
Not many of our players look match fit, Stroms.

02 Jan 2026 19:40:52
St Etienne that's too easy to say on Wirtz, once he crosses the line its up to him. Can we please stop making excuses for these grown men after they put in totally shambolic performances. Slot is not controlling him with a joypad, slot is not making him backheel the ball to no one.

{Ed025's Note - i have been saying the same thing FM, the players have to take some responsibility for a lot of this mess mate..

02 Jan 2026 20:14:20
Chiesa is not good enough. It's not just Slot. If another manager came in, Chiesa would be one of the first he sold, along with Endo.

02 Jan 2026 20:27:07
It’s not all chiesas fault. He finally starts a game and every time the ball went to konate he passed it back to vvd. When konate finally passed it to chiesa, he had made an inside run and konate passed it wide. The next time chiesa went wide and konate passed it inside.

Little things like that throw off a whole teams rhythm.
It’s not just konate. i've lost count of number of times this year thst players have made identical runs into same space. Little wonder we are struggling to click.
