Strange one but I hear both Chelsea and Spurs are showing interest in Curtis Jones (£35-40m)
Eds have any of you heard this?
I had only heard Inter were interested in him via this site?

{Ed001's Note - I haven't heard anything about that sorry.}

God, imagine going to Spurs. What a backwards step.

07 Jun 2026 09:42:16
I think Spurs will be decent this season.

07 Jun 2026 09:46:56
He'd be first choice at Spuds. Which, I guess, is what he wants.

07 Jun 2026 10:04:33
Reality is, he's not good enough to be a starter here, but he probably is at Spurs.

07 Jun 2026 10:23:49
For the majority of fans, many players are not good enough. However, when they excel in another team, then we start saying that we should not have sold this or that player, the squad depth is not good enough, blame this or that person....
At the end of the day, we need a squad. Players who will do the job when called upon.
We criticised Nunez, "could not hit a barn door", however, his speed, team contribution, chaos, all these helped the team.
Similar to Diaz, Elliot, Quansah, et al.
Most people on here were after Isak.
If a team with all superstars was what you think LFC should be and will dominate football, then this is the wrong thought as Real Madrid would be champions every year.

Look at PSG, they ditched all superstars like Messi, Neymar, Mbappe and now they have a team, each working for each other.
Good players do not always make a good team.
Individuals with willingness to win, to give it all, to fight for the shirt, that's what we need.
I would happily keep Jones, give Frimpong another year, keep Macalister and Gakpo and see if Salah can do a u turn as Etikite is injured and also consider Nunez.
If Diomande does not want to come, so be it. Get players who want to be here, live, passion and happy to rotate.
Thanks.

I have a feeling selling CJ will be similar to Utd selling McTominay, who then excelled in Serie A.

Appreciate it's a different league, but pretty sure it's a sale they lament with their lack of quality in midfield after thinking he was only in the team because he's a manc.

07 Jun 2026 10:56:46
McTominay is Scottish.

07 Jun 2026 11:22:32
Listen to him speak. He's clearly Mancunian and decided to play for Scotland through eligibility.

07 Jun 2026 11:24:25
@Kit, you make a very valid point and totally agree, I think many of the negative comments from fans are in frustration with all the players you mention and I do understand.

Players like Elliott, Jones and Nunez possibly had a higher ceiling, but didn't quite achieve it with us, reasons unknown to me.

I also agree with you about PSG, shed the egos, high transfer fees and ridiculous weekly salaries (Messi, Neymar etc), and they have a real team of players - love their club model and manager for that. ?

07 Jun 2026 11:24:41
Whilst the fans might lament it, it is pure profit for the club. I read somewhere that selling CJ for £30m, for argument's sake, transposes to £120m that the club can spend in the FFP rules. Don't ask me how or why, because I don't know.

Just something I read. I think that is why Chelsea let a lot of their good players go to rival clubs. Doesn't sit well with fans, but works well for their profit margins.

07 Jun 2026 11:25:20
Very few players excel after we sell them. The only one recently is Diaz. Others go on to do well in smaller teams, which probably suit them better, but very few excel at the top level and get anywhere near winning trophies.

07 Jun 2026 11:49:30
If Chelsea want Jones, maybe we could get Estevao from them. Good winger and what we need.

07 Jun 2026 11:52:30
Spurs would offer him a starting berth, and he would have Robbo with him to help him settle in the smoke.
Possibly Gakpo too, and, to be honest, taking £100m off Spurs for Gakpo and Jones would give me no end of joy!!

07 Jun 2026 13:03:19
If you've ever heard the delusional Spurs fans, they'd probably say he's not guaranteed a starting place and they have better. Coming from a team who finishes 17th twice in a row.
I have nothing against Spurs, but their fans live on another planet most of the time.

07 Jun 2026 14:36:04
Iraola didn't really have any physical beasts in his midfield at Bournemouth, it was Scott, Adams, Christie, Cook... legs, tireless runners, pressers with a touch of tech. There is nobody there you would call a dominant ball winner, but combined they rushed teams in possession.

07 Jun 2026 14:43:33
Jones is coming up 26 and doesn't excel in any position. He's too ponderous in possession, defensively he's all over the place and, for all of his talk about getting stuck in, he's the most tackle shy out of him, Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.

He hasn't improved since breaking into the team and I think selling is sensible as I don't see that he'll suddenly become a world class player.
