Can't think of an Italian defender who has done really well in the PL - although I'm guessing there must be some - so this doesn't bother me.

Johnnyr1970, I think you are spot on. The problem with this thought that Italian defenders are the best in the world is that it is wrong.
They look good, as the whole team defends, creating very little room for the opposition to play ball on the ground football.
Unless someone is willing to move for the spine of an Italian team, they will be ultimately disappointed.

100mil, 130mil, 150mil? I used to care how much we'd pay for a player or their wages. Now, I've come to the realization that no matter what the fans think, it really doesn't matter. Because fans will always have divided opinions.
We used to complain that our owners were stingy. We would not go for top class players because we cannot pay or compete with the likes of Chelsea or City.
Now that we can, fans are also moaning.
We can have our opinions, but at the end of the day, the club and its board decide. We as fans, just have to pray and hope that whoever signs will work out well for our club. If it was up to me, nobody in this world is worth that sort of money... but somehow they are, so go figure!
