Now Jones is on his way, will this finally start the ball rolling? It's so frustrating waiting and I trust the ITK's but just want to see the likes of Barcola training with the team ready to go, I have this horrible worry what happened last season with Guehi will happen again with Barcola.

Cheers

Pretty sure we are not going to get him. We can't sign him for 2 months. Hughes doesn't care. I can't believe how, for the whole summer, we didn't buy a right winger. Season is over even before start.

Cheer up, Rudjo!!

It's not as bad as you think lad.

Rudjo, cheer up, man.

I remember when we used to say every year this is our year.

It's the biggest deal we are doing this year, so finance needs to be correct as there are also other areas that need sorting too.

We are probably still paying for other signings made last season and funds aren't endless.

I believe it will happen.

But the delay has definitely been frustrating. Deals can close quickly, such as Munoz and Araujo.

I expect us to sign Bracola or the club knows the fans would be on the streets. My only grief would be that we would pay the money what PSG always wanted from the first day!!

Another day no Barcola. Been 3 weeks as a done deal.

Sukhyrai, No self respecting Liverpool supporter ever says this year is our year. The amount of areas needing attention, and here we are on the eve of the pl kucking off, and we are scandalously short in so many areas. What has Hughes been in the last 6 months? He has been an unmitigated disaster of an appointment.

Hughes is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

Tell me you weren’t buzzing when we signed Wirtz and Isak last summer. We all were. Finally, Liverpool FC are going after the very best talents in the world and are prepared to pay the money takes to get them.

Then we have a bad season and everyone says it’s Hughes’s fault, he overpaid etc, etc., even though he did shave substantial sums from the asking prices.

Fast forward to this summer and we are going after the very best winger on the market. PSG have quoted a price and Hughes is trying to get a deal done that suits us financially. PSG don’t need the money and don’t particularly need to sell him, so it was always going to be a tough negotiation.

We could’ve always just paid them the £145m they wanted, but then Hughes would get slated for overpaying.

I’m not here to defend Hughes, like everyone who seems to want to comment on his ability, I have no idea how good he is. I have to say though, since he’s been at the club, it’s been refreshing to see how ambitious we’ve been in the transfer market.

In years gone by, Munoz would’ve been bought as our main winger, hoping we could improve him. These days, we have more ambition than that, and I quite like it.

Some of you on here need to develop a bit of mettle. Watch some footage of Ronnie Moran, or read his perspective.

It's the beginning of the season. We deserve, and we should expect, nothing. Whatever happened last season goes in a box, and we start afresh.

No point moaning about players who have moved on or, worse, we have failed to sign. We support the 11 in red who are on the field at any given time.

I can understand a bit of frustration, but I don’t think it’s as bad as some people think. 2 seasons ago we won the league and only brought in Chiesa. Everyone thought we would struggle for Champions League. Also, this clammer to sign a rw Salah replacement. The problem is, there isn’t one in world football. Isak was bought to replace Salah. Isak is our 20+ goals a season replacement. We have signed Munoz, and hopefully Barcola comes, but to expect them players to get Mo's numbers is unrealistic.

They are there to chip in but mostly to supply Isak/Ekitike. What’s the point of paying £200m on 6 foot + strikers if you're not gunna service them. So, those saying Munoz and Barcola, or even Rio, can’t play on the right, are missing the point. We don’t want our wingers always cutting back onto their strong foot and shooting. That’s why Gyokeres won’t hit 20+ goals a season.

With all due respect, if we wanted to buy players from Wrexham or Scunthorpe or Colchester or Everton, the deal would be done in about 10 minutes with the players and clubs raking our hand off for the money.
It's a bit different when you are trying to sign someone from an elite team. In the case of Barcola, we are dealing with a massive club that doesn't need the money and is probably the best club in the world at the minute.

It's not like nipping out to the petrol station to buy a packet of fags, or a computer game were you press a button and it's done,
To assume that we know what is or isn't going on, in this case a business transaction in excess of £100m, is at the very best naive.and at worst demonstrates a degree of ignorance of business practices.

100% Port Red

Ed001 what's your over all assessment of Hughes? Please be as honest as you can

{Ed001's Note - Richard Hughes? You know he is a big favourite of mine, a wonderful man doing a fantastic job. Seriously, I have never rated him. I remember arguing with MKS about him before he arrived that he had never shown any ability to spot a top class player and I still feel the same now. He has no negotiation skills, not once have we paid anything other than top dollar for a player in his time. And he can't even be bothered to commit to the job enough to move nearby. A good sporting director would be at training to look over the players every day, how else does he really know for sure what is missing from the squad? He should be guiding the recruitment, but he has no knowledge of what we have. The guy is nothing but a conman. Anyone with a copy of football manager could do what he has done since joining us.}

Agreed, Riosstepover.

Bang on, Ed.

The fact that he lives in Bournemouth and flies in on a private jet is utterly ridiculous. He should be present in all things happening at the AXA, where his sporting vision should be taking shape.

{Ed001's Note - they made the same mistake with Slot, part timers are simply not what is needed for these roles. They have to be all in, as Klopp showed. We can't keep employing people to phone it in from miles away.}

Can't understand the Scouse ways if not living the Scouse ways.
