I've always said if you are going to sign players they have to be an upgrade on what you already have. Robertson is a decent player but after reading an article from a Hull reporter and fan who said he didn't really feel he was an upgrade on Moreno. This is not a dig at the lad but we have a history of this. No dig at Mignolet but was he an upgrade on Reina? There are other cases. I don't care about marquee signings or big fees, just making sure that we improve in the position we would like to upgrade.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are actively trying to sell Moreno but are struggling to find a buyer at the asking price. They turned down an offer that Napoli thought was reasonable recently. Unfortunately they cannot go back as Napoli moved on and have agreed the fee for the transfer of an alternative. I imagine his agent is working hard looking for a solution.}

1.) 10 Jul 2017 09:48:43
I thought the Napoli offer was quite sensible, but dismissing it like we did was just baffling.

2.) 10 Jul 2017 09:52:15
I like the look of Robertson if i'm honest. He's energetic and keen, technically gifted and is still young enough to improve dramatically.

If he can really focus on his defensive work then we might have a really good player on our hands.

I would have liked to go for Aaron Cresswell as I think he is about the same level as Robertson but having a senior local lad back in the team is always a bonus in my eyes. But as Eds have said we don't seem to be looking at him.

Robertson is a definite improvement on Moreno in my opinion. And if he doesn't kick on and improve then he won't be a very costly mistake, in the way that paying £40mill for Mendy could be if he didn't settle.

Good luck to the lad if we do sign him!

3.) 10 Jul 2017 10:12:24
Real shame that Sessegnon seems out of reach. Scored 2 last night for England u-19 playing left wing. That lad is going to be the next Gareth Bale. He looked streets ahead and was 2 years younger than those around him.

4.) 10 Jul 2017 12:20:37
Robertson is an improvement on Milner at left back, Moreno wasn't a regular. Frees up Milner to play elsewhere and cover a number of other roles.

5.) 10 Jul 2017 12:47:30
Robertson is an improvement on Moreno, is he an improvement on Milner? Well I'm not sure about that because Milner was one of the most consistent left backs last year. Robertson, to be fair to him, has improved year on year, he's shown willingness to work on his game.

6.) 10 Jul 2017 13:08:59
It'll almost be a luxury to play with balance next season! We were sooooo good last year I got completely carried away by October. Can't wait to see us with two super fast wingers and two capable full backs. Both left footed and right.

7.) 10 Jul 2017 16:37:34
I would 100% back Robertson if he signed and have been proven wrong before with underwhelming signings like Steve Finnan but what value for money that turned out to be.

8.) 10 Jul 2017 22:57:10
You lot are mad. He's bang average playing for an awful football team and that's being kind.

9.) 11 Jul 2017 00:36:56
So what was the famous Napoli offer for Moreno? 11 mil, right? Was that all up front or was it 1 mil now, 5 mil if they win the league and another 5 if they male CL top 8? Makes a difference when judging LFCs stance on it. Does anyone actually know?

10.) 11 Jul 2017 13:50:11
Mingnolet was not any where near as good as riena. Robertson is much better than moreno at defending. Not got the pace of moreno but a much safer player. Moreno attacks aimlessly while Robertson attacks with purpose and doesn't forget his defensive duties. He is hard as nails too. Will prove to be a solid little player and possibly become one of best lbs in the league.

Why are we hearing from a family member? Will there be a similar statement a some stage to the one of VVDs?

ajreds85

1.) 12 Aug 2017 04:28:39
Have you been speaking to he's family? I have not seen any of he's family give a interview.

2.) 12 Aug 2017 07:32:13
Stoupid I don't think anyone gives interviews any more they just put bits on social media and leak to the press.

I really hope Henderson can stay clear of injury this season. After a lot of bad publicity that the club has gone through recently, I really feel Henderson can be the face of the team. He speaks really well in interviews, keeps out of trouble off the pitch and sounds well respected by team mates and opponents alike. I feel like Liverpool need to rebuild their image somewhat and with Henderson as captain, I feel like we are building a 'Team' we can be proud of. Hopefully the rest will follow suit. I am still proud to be a fan of this great club but just hope the current people running it do not ruin all the good work our greats did building it.

Proud to have Hendo as our Captain.
A great professional and brilliant role model for our youngsters.

Eds, can you remember the most exciting transfer day you guys have had? I can remember the 2011 January deadline day when we bought Carroll and just being hooked to Sky Sports. All sorts of crazy stuff happening! Can't imagine what these pages were like on that day!

ajreds85

{Ed001's Note - that was probably about the last time the final day was exciting!}

1.) 10 Jul 2017 17:49:32
I'd say the day with the Konoplyanka transfer was fun too. So many contrasting reports.
Although 2011 was a different beast. We were signing everyone from Aguero to Llorente.

2.) 10 Jul 2017 17:59:54
I remember that day reading this page. They were a funny few hours. And yet, no where as disrectful as the posts are now.

3.) 10 Jul 2017 18:00:14
Kevin Nolan driving Carroll to Melwood made me laugh! Most frustrating was probably 2012 where nothing happened, was sitting in a bar waiting for the Dempsey signing to be announced.

4.) 10 Jul 2017 18:02:50
Never understood why we never went for Kono the year after when he was available for free.

5.) 10 Jul 2017 18:15:11
I'm just hoping that we have at least incoming transfer coming through on deadline day this year.
Although don't believe it'll be a very pleasant experience for the Eds 😂.

6.) 10 Jul 2017 19:22:10
Sky caught Ian Ayre sneaking out the back door at 10pm.

Not a word to fans or anything.

7.) 10 Jul 2017 19:46:01
Kovacic. We agreed the fee but the structure lol. 10 years in installment! Ha ha.

8.) 10 Jul 2017 21:46:34
Simao, that was a rollercoaster of a deal.

9.) 10 Jul 2017 22:55:05
Can the eds clarify when the busiest this site has ever been was and what signing/ news caused it? The vvd tapping up news caused it to be busier than I've seen in a long time, I also remember there being loads of posts when we sold Torres.

10.) 10 Jul 2017 23:56:16
When Kenny was shafted?

{Ed001's Note - the busiest the site has ever been was nothing to do with transfers. It was during the takeover by FSG, when it was going back and forward between the States and here in courts.}

Haha fair enough Ed, this is why this site is so good, everyone has an opinion and apart from certain tosses, everyone expresses them in a mature manner most of the time anyway. And yes, sorry Ed25, but you would love a player like Henderson, go on, admit it, you would.

ajreds85

{Ed025's Note - we have better in gana aj who along with keita and kante is one of the best around, he is also not a decapitated bantam who runs aimlessly without a scooby of what he wants to achieve like someone i could mention..but we all wear tinted specs at times i suppose mate and thats fair enough..

I get the trophies argument, maybe that's a poor example. Just my opinion that he is still a better plan than Can, Henderson, Lallana, Gruijic and Gini, even if his legs have gone! I know it's a bit embarrassing sometimes, YouTube highlights all that's good but just watch a bit from last season, serious skills. Anyway, I think I need to get over it now! Also, calling Ed25 a tosser is not on, Toffee or not, I tend to agree with a lot of what he/ she says (not the Henderson bit though) .

ajreds85

{Ed001's Note - honestly he is not a good player any more, he is not half the player he once was. A couple of seasons ago I would have loved the idea of Rakitic, but he is awful now. He offers nothing. As for more no, it is clear he is the tosser, even if Ed025's not got a clue about Hendo, which he hasn't, it does not make him a tosser. He just doesn't know about quality footballers, being an Everton fan he has not seen any......}

Is there an Ed out there who thinks we rate our players too highly? For instance, pretty much saying Rakitic wouldn't get into our midfield as it stands now? Maybe I need to drop this, don't know what my obsession is with Rakitic!

He doesn't need pace mate, it's all up upstairs. Do you mean he gets overrun in midfield? Can't keep up? Just that a lot of our lads don't have blistering pace.

I agree with mandzo on this one. I support our lads, we have great potential but someone of Rakitic class would walk into our team (not that this will happen) . This guy has won a CL, 2 Spanish titles, a Europa league and probably a couple more. He also plays for Barcelona and not too long ago scored a belter against Real Madrid and after watching him that night, I didn't think his legs had gone. Anyway, this isn't a Rakitic love in, just that maybe we should wait to put our lads into his bracket until they have achieved something, win a few trophies or maybe just turn up away to Leicester on a cold Wednesday night in February.
