If Klopp was to start Matip then i’d be seriously concerned about his increasingly alarming capacity for favouritism. There is absolutely no way Gomez should not start, neither on form nor tactical reasons.

Gomez has the shirt right now so Matip is going to have to wait his turn. Besides, he was dreadful vs Fulham even tho, he wasn’t the only one so there’s no justification for him starting over Gomez who has done nothing wrong in the last two games, imo.

Alsky was it Gomez by any chance? That's great and I love Joe but it's the balls over the top of him at the other end I'm worried about given our inability to keep the ball out of the net at the moment. Maybe it's just rust and he needs a run of games but I'm just calling it as I saw it in the games he's started so far. He does offer us pace in the high line that Matip doesn't offer and he doesn't go walkabout as much which is good.

Don’t understand why Matip is so underrated and under appreciated for us. Doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
Maybe because he looks awkward on the ball. He carries the ball forward well and has been solid for us the majority of times he’s played. He has complimented Virg well and at times looked better than him. Gomez hasn’t been better than Matip for a long time now, hasn’t been fit enough to get the run of games he needs but he should of course be starting today as there’s no absolutely no reason he shouldn’t be.

Ironically according to some Gomez is having a blinder in our worst start to the season for years.

He will start today tho, be surprised if he put Matip in at this stage.

I'm still not convinced by Gomez.
Maybe it's because of a lack of games. Does he need a long run of them to form a partnership with VVD?
But I think the reason he's not had a long run of games is because Klopp isn't convinced by him. Injuries certainly haven't helped him but is he going to be one of those 'nearly men'.
