Could Paqueta from Lyon be a good signing for us?

LFCMitch16

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has no interest in him.}

1.) 24 Aug 2022 14:13:19
Cheers Ed. Newcastle got a gem in my eyes with Bruno. Was hoping we could get one ourselves.

2.) 24 Aug 2022 15:13:58
Ed, could someone from anywhere be a realistic option? Or are they going somewhere else? ?.

3.) 24 Aug 2022 15:18:18
Ed, do you know if the club are actually happy with the midfield, or can we not afford any of our targets? Klopp hinted at the latter in an interview a couple days ago.

{Ed002's Note - Klopp has previously made clear that transfers are done. Now he is hinting that perhaps the club don't wish to provide further funds. He should stop making comments on such matters as he is looking a bit of a flake right now.}

4.) 24 Aug 2022 16:29:54
We had a discussion around this issue a few months back on here.

Clubs with smaller budgets than ours have to take more of a risk on players and therefore do unearth gems - like Bruno or Caciedo (sic) that they acquire cheap. However, for every one of them, there could be several flops who, for example, can't adjust to the EPL etc.

It's better for us to search out proven talent (and pay more for it) knowing the player can perform in the league - Jota is a prime example of that.

Doesn't explain why we are not in the market right now, but I think does make sense when looking at the type of purchases we have made.

5.) 24 Aug 2022 19:10:54
Could Klopp have thought before the first game of the season that he was ok with the squad and then over next couple of weeks after the injuries and poor performances, he thought actually yeah it now mkaes sense to try and get x player and be told by FSG that the money isn't there for that player or is that not how it works? He is too honest sometimes when he speaks to the press re our tactics / what went wrong and our transfer activity.

6.) 24 Aug 2022 19:15:10
Bruno cost 40 mil so not really that cheap. If we are actually waiting until the right player becomes available, say Bellingham. It’s going to take a lot more money than that. There’s no guarantees he will work. I do think he’s a class act. But next year we may need more than one midfielder with the ageing squad and could we afford that.

7.) 24 Aug 2022 20:49:32
LFC might not finish in a position high enough to offer Champions League Football to potential signings next Season, just a thought FSG?

{Ed002's Note - What has that got to do with the owners? They do not identify targets. If you have a problem with Klopp being unable to make something of the team he has worked to build including the €80M headbutting moron - you cannot blame Klopp for that. Maybe the problem is closer to home. Do you really have so little understanding of the game?}

8.) 24 Aug 2022 21:01:24
After many years away…

{Ed014's Note - time for a few more years away, you absolute class A cockwomble!

9.) 24 Aug 2022 21:24:45
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

10.) 24 Aug 2022 21:39:43
hello Ed002, Finance and Football are two completely different facets, i was merely stating a true fact that if you finish fifth and don't win the CL, you are quite rightly not in a position to offer CL Football, is that not an understanding of the game?

My original post never mentioned or criticised Klopp at all, far from it or "hot head", i have not implied or mentioned those comments in my original post.

"What has that got to do with the Owners", don't know whether you have any expertise with regard to Financial Acumen and not just your Football expertise, FSG provides the liquidity (monies) to complete signings and contracts of potential future LFC players, and all the other financial aspects for the daily running of the club, anything financial within the club is controlled by FSG, is that not an understanding of the role FSG plays in financing transfers.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you mean by “FSG provides the liquidity”. You clearly don’t understand how the club is run at all.}

11.) 24 Aug 2022 22:47:05
From Wikipedia "Liquidity is a company's ability to raise cash when it needs it" don't know whether you are aware that Liverpool Football Club is a Private Limited Company (Ltd) .

Ed002,You might beat me hands down on football matters, but never beat me with regards to Financial Acumen ( someone's ability to understand business issues i. e LFC is a business)

Good Night Ed002 and "thank you" for giving me a fair and equal opportunity to reply.

{Ed002's Note - You simply don’t get it - FSG have borrowed huge amounts of cash and mortgaged everything. I am not aware of a Liverpool Football Club Limited running the business. Idiot.}

12.) 24 Aug 2022 23:35:02
Ouch. Burn. Good talk, good talk.

13.) 25 Aug 2022 00:19:45
Hahahahah. But it was fun to watch. Some guys keep asking for it. ?.

14.) 25 Aug 2022 04:26:06
Correction - Ed002 beats you hands down on BOTH football and financial matters. Seems like you have 0 acumen lmao.

15.) 24 Aug 2022 23:28:09
I’d just like to give a shout out to Ed014 for “cockwomble” - haven’t heard that turn of phrase in years!

Thank you, sir!

{Ed014's Note - you’re welcome Zed! ??

16.) 25 Aug 2022 17:48:12
Klopp is talking through gritted teeth. The "right player" line is bollocks and a way for owners to spin it and not spend.

17.) 25 Aug 2022 19:59:31
Absolutely brilliant! it will be a cold day in hell when Ed002 ever even considers that anyone might know more about a particular topic than him!

In fairness though even in the face of a meaningful debate he gets so much c&£! on this site I would be inclined to deny the notion anyone on here knows something I don’t either! Either way, love your input as always Ed002. Always good for a laugh even when your not giving us your insights!

18.) 25 Aug 2022 20:16:45
With no due respect mate you can’t say Ed2 will never beat you on ‘financial acumen’. He clearly has a solid grasp of the inner workings and finances of football but more to the point we have no idea what he does for a living. For all we know he works in the finance sector while you look up the meaning of liquidity on Wikipedia.
We fans are awful when it comes to our clubs finances. We constantly see headlines of transfer fees, net spends and the rest of the rubbish. We had a breakdown by Ed2 ages ago of what actually is involved in a transfer and it is so much more than the tip of the iceberg we get from media. If anyone hasn’t seen it I highly recommend searching for it it was a great read. Company finances, loan structures, amortization and everything else involved are way beyond the vast majority of us so let’s stay in our lane and support the club.

19.) 25 Aug 2022 21:09:20
This thread keeps getting better. “We don’t understand a topic therefore I am in a position to determine than someone else does based the jargon they speak sounding convincing even though I don’t comprehend it”.
How about “I know nothing about the the meaning of life, the universe and everything but someone told me it was 42 so that’s good enough for me”. Pure gold! I’m done with my laughs tonight chaps. Have a good evening all.

20.) 26 Aug 2022 10:16:52
I wonder why only West Ham are in for Paqueta. He looks very good, and would not cost a Paquet.

Starting to get a bit embarrassing reading some posts now.
Nobody could do what Klopp has done. The owners turned us around to be a great team competing at the highest level. Yes we are having an off season and need to improve.
But we have still signed some top players and things have been a lot worse. Give him time and we will be back competing.

LFCMitch16

1.) 13 Jan 2023 16:26:47
Where to start with this. Whereas I agree that Klopp is the only one who could have achieved what he has, he’s done so with one hand tied behind his back by the owners that you’re praising, but for getting lucky and encountering a Barcelona team throwing money around like Wayne Rooney in a pensioner brothel I doubt we’d have won the league and champions league, as we’d never have signed Allison and VVD without that sale. The two key components of us winning both. The debt leveraged against the club by the owners and the hand to mouth policy has held us back.

Instead of acting when we were on top to stay there, we’ve regressed by not refreshing our midfield and letting it stagnate for the last four years. Without significant investment in quality in midfield we’re not going to compete and there’s absolutely no way that I can see our owners sanctioning the kind of spending needed, notwithstanding that it will be incredibly hard to recruit quality players outside the champions league unless you’re paying the kind of wages man United do. I’ll be interested to know if you’ll be so quick to criticise fans with legitimate grievances if we get pumped by Brighton at the weekend and if a very poor Chelsea side turn us over the following week.

2.) 13 Jan 2023 17:05:40
I’d be interested to know if you actually support Liverpool and how many times you have changed your tampon this month.

3.) 13 Jan 2023 17:11:46
It'll depend on the legitimacy of your grievances and how you air them, VVVV.
Thanks for the heads up about them but I didn't expect anything else.

4.) 13 Jan 2023 17:31:32
Legitimate grievances? Don't make us laugh. Made up grievances more like, in the constant search for stress life by whining on these pages, ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

Example: "we live hand to mouth (policy) and we sell to buy". We bought Luis Diaz last January. Who did we sell first (or even after) to fund the purchase? Nobody. We just bought Gakpo. Who did we sell before the purchase? Nobody. And we still haven't sold anybody yet, with two weeks to go. But let's forget about all that and whine constantly about how if it were not for Coutinho, we wouldn't have Alisson and Van Dijk. It suits the narrative, even though everyone can see how self-serving it is.

That's 80-90 Million outgoing right there (for Diaz and Gakpo), with no incoming as of yet. Of course, it's peanuts and means nothing since it is somebody else's money. I'd like to see people's reactions here if FSG came in and told them how and how much to spend their money, as much as people tell FSG how to spend theirs.

Professional football is sports entertainment and a business. It's all transactional and nothing else. You buy a ticket you get entry into the stadium for the game. You buy a subscription you get to see the game on digital media. That's it. People need to wake up and smell the reality that they are not stakeholders, shareholders or part owners who have a say on what comes out of FSG's pocket.

5.) 13 Jan 2023 17:57:44
Do you feel better after that?

6.) 13 Jan 2023 18:04:50
OP - I'm embarrassed that you're embarrassed that fans are being embarrassing. I don't know how you survive.

7.) 13 Jan 2023 18:16:03
*I meant to say "search for stress relief"

8.) 13 Jan 2023 18:41:46
Being consistently negative is the cowards way out. You get to say you were right when things go badly and enjoy the successes like the rest of us. Allowing yourself to dream when things look bleak is brave.

9.) 13 Jan 2023 18:47:01
VVVV - Where do I start? I know, held us back.
I’ll let you begin, let’s start from 1992 shall we, right through until FSG took aver and we became successful again…

I’m all ears pal.

10.) 13 Jan 2023 18:24:59
"Legitimate grievances" about a hobby that you've absolutely no control over what it does, how it does it or where it does anything. If supporting, and I very much doubt you do to be honest, is affecting you that badly that every word you type is negative it can't be good for you. I can't see how it hasn't spilled over into everyday life. I'd take a break if I was you because it definitely seems to be affecting you far more that it should. All the best.

11.) 13 Jan 2023 18:39:30
Spot on, ArAy1969. All maande up nonsense by VVVV who keeps spouting the same unfounded fantasies about FSG to protect Klopp. Klopp has spent over 250m since we win the title and did not spend a penny on the midfield apart from Thiago till Arthur was panic bought. So when when was Klopp’s hand tied? Was it before or after he was given all this dough to spend or afterwards?

Also, he says we Lebanese hand to loyaliteit. That is a huge insult to those who literally do that on a daily basis. Every club sells to buy cos you got to balance the books BUT this is lost on some people with agendas to push. When Madrid sold DiMaria to Utd to fund James Rodriguez’s transfer, they called it good business. When we did it with Cou to fund our transfers, they use it as a stick to beat us with. Again, the constant made up fantasies and fabrications need to stop. It’s embarrassing.

12.) 13 Jan 2023 19:21:37
How much has been made in sales since we won the league? A bit of perspective is always good. As you say the books have to be balanced. We can't be leaving important things like that out.

13.) 13 Jan 2023 19:23:43
There's valid arguments to be made that FSG could've spent more on the playing squad. And that we are a transfer window behind where we ideally want to be to stay at the top.

VVVV's problem is that he's developed an agenda and carries on as if we never spent anything on transfers ever, by going on about how 'a typical FSG transfer' will be signing some bloke on a freebie. We'll ignore the 12 or so players at the club signed for £30m or more, sometimes a lot more, shall we? Would the kind of fee half the squad cost not represent a typical transfer? No? (And let's not even get into £200m on facilities and taking over a club losing £1m a week. )

Likewise he's taken to ignoring anything that doesn't fit the agenda. Barely a peep when Gapko is signed, cos we can't acknowledge a £35m outlay when we're pretending a typical transfer is £0. And he hasn't acknowledged that both Eds 1 and 2 have stated we could've bought a midfielder had Klopp wanted (Klopp has a lot a credit in the bank, btw, I still love the guy) and could still buy one. Because those don't fit the agenda.

But when someone suggests we offered Naby a new deal which was rejected. All over it. That must be true cos that's 'proof' that FSG are skint and can't sign anyone.

Barely a step above Harry grade nonsense at this point, which is a pity cos he's a much smarter bloke than that.

It has the effect of undermining any legitimate points he has. Yes we absolutely should have bought a midfielder instead of doing a last minute loan for Arthur. Maybe FSG could've spent more. But it's hard to take things like that seriously when they're buried in drivel.

14.) 13 Jan 2023 18:51:49
Has LFCMitch16 just emerged from the 1980s.

15.) 13 Jan 2023 19:49:22
ORT - Net spend on transfers since we won the league is about £110m, if you believe transfer figures reported in the media. Agents fees, signing on fees etc. would be an additional amount on to that.

There's also add ons on both the ins and outs that could be triggered. idk at what point the club accounts for those.

16.) 13 Jan 2023 22:21:18
Something Red, let's not forget that we were tops in the league in agent fees for about 2-3 years (thanks to stellar negotiation skills) and I'm sure that's easily 25 to 50 Million (just a a number of the top of my head) . And then throw in the 194 Million spent on upgrading the two stands and the 50 Million on developing the Kirkby training ground.

17.) 13 Jan 2023 22:30:39
How much more would we have won if we had spent more money?
No one can answer that. No one.
Why not then be satisfied with what we did win without having to spend like City have?
That's the City with not one European Cup to their name.

18.) 13 Jan 2023 22:41:55
What I find interesting about VVVV on threads like this is that he never comes back to dispute points. He just makes the same point again on a different thread.

19.) 14 Jan 2023 00:45:39
Attention seekers want attention. They're not bothered about what you have to say or discussing things.
It's all about them.

20.) 14 Jan 2023 09:13:44
SR, I fully agree with all you have said there. Indeed, you can say the club or owners could have spent more on transfers here and there BUT any fan of any club can say that. Arsenal want to sign Mudryk and if they don’t, their fans could say the exact same thing.

Also, who knows if Klopp was provided the funds and he chose not to and stuck with what we had? We know he did that when we won the title. We also know he did that when he desisted from signing a LB cos he wanted Chilwell then on loan at Huddersfield and backed off due to his iff field issues and convinced Milner to play LB.

Rigsby, you are correct as well that the club spending more guaranteed NOTHING either cos we spent next to nothing that summer and strolled the league in 19/ 20 but such nuanced discussions like this are no longer allowed anymore cos the wretched society of today is too busy engaging in zero-sum garbage thinking that does not allow for nuanced debates. Only the two extremes are allowed to prevail these days.

10 Jan 2023 18:19:25
With haaland scoring as frequently as he is he looks set to smash the record for goals scored in a prem season. Would it be regarded as the best season for a player?
I’ve never seen anything as good as the Suarez 13/ 14 season. The quality of goals he scored was ridiculous. Freekicks. Headers from the edge of the area. Them 4 against Norwich. Has anybody scored better quality goals in 1 game? Shame he’s a dick. what's everyone’s thoughts? We need 3 new midfielders by the way.

LFCMitch16

1.) 10 Jan 2023 19:10:54
Thierry Henry was special, 30 goals in 37 games in the 03/ 04 season, also scored 5 goals in the Champions League. The best player I've seen in the Premier League.

2.) 10 Jan 2023 19:25:49
We lost too many games that Suarez didn’t turn up in Chelsea twice City away Hull away Arsenal away and didn’t win the title so hard to have it number one but it’s up there. if Haaland gets 40 it’ll be hard to argue i reckon they still win the title.

3.) 10 Jan 2023 19:28:48
Suarez was very good. Haaland is playing in a far better team than Suarez did.

4.) 10 Jan 2023 19:35:36
Great shout TB. I think his team mate Dennis Bergkamp just shades it for me, the guy had an unbelievable footballing brain.

5.) 10 Jan 2023 19:39:26
That was my thoughts Rigsby. Scoring ridiculous goals aswel.

6.) 10 Jan 2023 19:44:23
Henry for me. Absolutely brilliant player that season.

{Ed025's Note - best forward to ever grace the premiership jonesy, with bergkamp 2nd and shearer 3rd..

7.) 10 Jan 2023 19:51:04
Haaland is excellent at what he does, which is score goals. He doesn’t excite me tho, he has no flair like Thierry Henry or Suarez. I would much rather watch those players who can score but have more to their game than just sticking the ball in the net. Terrific player Haaland and I’ve no doubt he will win a couple of CL trophies when he eventually moves to Madrid ?.

8.) 10 Jan 2023 19:56:16
Have a guess which team, that he hadn't already played for, did Henry say he wished he'd play for. not you, Ed025 ?.

{Ed025's Note - he would not have got in our team at that time rigsby, but may have replaced dirk $hite..

9.) 10 Jan 2023 20:27:35
I bet Henry is resigned to never have been able to break into an Everton team, even though you think he was the best to grace the PL, but he was asked who he would have liked to play for.
It was Liverpool, btw ?.

{Ed025's Note - it seems everyone wanted to play for liverpool rigsby, you would think they would win the league more than once every 33 years really.. :)

10.) 11 Jan 2023 07:10:58
Haland is bloody good but mostly tap ins! Henry was immense, graced a pitch and scored some beautiful goals, as did Suarez but Henry all the way for me.

11.) 11 Jan 2023 14:49:42
Haaland is severely limited as a footballer, IMO. If he is not scoring goals, he is a complete waste. Now maybe he can do other things and that Pep is asking him not to do that and or he is that limited.

If Haaland played in the 13/ 14 team, he would struggle to score as many as he is doing now. If Suarez played in this City team, look out.

{Ed025's Note - Erling does the hard job oli...putting the ball in the net and at that he is excellent, he also drags defenders out of position and forces teams to double up on him giving more space to his team mates...i dont know what more you would want mate?..

25 Oct 2022 07:34:44
It’s understandable people don’t like to see the negativity on the site. But after some of the performances that have been put in you can’t really expect to come on and see much positivity.
Can’t really say I’ve seen many people calling for Klopp gone, no doubt there will be some people that think his time is up and that’s their opinion.
We need more consistency, we’ve had great games like against City when every player was up for it and the stadium was bouncing. But we’ve had plenty of poor games that have been so frustrating to watch.
Last seasons near quadruple is irrelevant now. We need to turn this season around before we leave ourselves with too much to do.
Anyways I wouldn’t let opinions on a football site get you down too much. If time away is what anyone needs then take a break. Bigger things to worry about in life. YNWA.

LFCMitch16

1.) 25 Oct 2022 07:59:11
Not seen many ask for Klopp out on here, which would be crazy imo, he is the best we could have at this point, and many years to come i hope, but when questioning the owners I've noticed a couple of responses I've put not getting through, very pro FSG on here and people living in the past regarding the owners, we are very unstable under them and more fans are seeing they aren't actually taking us forward on the pitch and haven't since we won the league, and possibly before.

2.) 25 Oct 2022 08:28:00
"Very unstable under FSG" - won every trophy in the last 3 or 4 seasons and expanding the ground.
"Not taking us forward since before we won the league" - winning the league isn't taking the club forward?

What have the Romans ever done for us?

And you wonder why the Eds filter this garbage out?

3.) 25 Oct 2022 08:53:45
£200m on facilities to benefit the club for 30 plus years isn't real spending Flash. Should've been spent on players instead.

4.) 25 Oct 2022 10:25:53
LancasterRed, the fact that you have dumbed down such very nuanced and complicated topic (s) in to something as simple as pro-FSG vs anti-FSG is the type of zero-sum mindset that is the scourge of not just football supporters BUT society as a whole. Sad, really.

So cos FSG is not doing thing the way you like or not doing the things you want automatically means the club is unstable? All the success we have had under FSG on and off the pitch does not matter cos they did not do what you wanted or thought was right? So there is NO grey area for you then, right? Yep, zero-sum mindset in full view.

IMO, This the best position the club has ever been in since the PL began BUT cos they are NOT doing what you want or how you want it, it is now unstable, all of a sudden? Oh and investing in infrastructure and state of the art installations are actual good ways of attracting talent as well. Why do you think players or youth prospects visit the ground and training center of clubs they want to sign for potentially? It's all part of the recruiting process. Didn't think about any of that, did you? Take a day off, man.

5.) 25 Oct 2022 10:43:13
Fair play to FSG they have loaned the club money in low interest loans to improve the training facilities and increase the stadium. They’ve backed Klopp with wages for himself and our big name players.

Our transfer spending is not much higher than what we sell but that’s their business model has been since they bought the club so it shouldn’t come as a shock.

They’re extremely smart businessmen/ women as investing in the infrastructure increases the value of the club tenfold.

Chelsea were sold for 3-4 billion so from what they paid to what we are valued at now will be huge. But along the way us as fans have been able to witness a CL win, Premier League win, Fa and Lc win and world club cup.

Arguments could be made that we could have won so much more. But there’s fans of clubs out there who will never experience winning 1 of those let alone all of them.

{Ed025's Note - great post JK..

6.) 25 Oct 2022 13:50:38
Amazing how putting BEFORE in the wrong place changes someones quote.

Struggling to read Flash The Red?

7.) 25 Oct 2022 17:45:24
Struggled to read? Not at all.
Maybe a struggle to comprehend as some of the negative codswallop regularly being spouted on here is off the wall.

8.) 26 Oct 2022 13:19:32
Great post, JK23. Esp. that last paragraph is EXACTLY where I see things nd how I support my team. As much as we could have won more, we also could have won less than we did. It's like two sides of a coin. One cannot focus on the negative side alone and then pretend the other side does not exist. I choose to recognize do both.

For me, we can demand that our team competes on all fronts which they literally do BUT what we cannot do is demand that they win EVERY trophy. You win some. You lose some. That's the very essence of sports. If you can't deal with that then, sports supporting is NOT for you.

20 Oct 2022 06:13:55
Good 3 points last night. Risky to make so many subs to key players when only leading by 1 goal. Maybe trying to keep people happy and give them game time. Darwin looked a real threat and took his goal well, could have had a few more.
Good cross from kostas who was solid and Thiago is just different class. Thought Hendo looked back to his best, he was everywhere.
Taking all them players off when playing so well disrupted the rhythm and we lost control of the game. Could easily have conceded towards then end and probably lucky not to.
On to the next one! Keep the wins coming.

LFCMitch16

1.) 20 Oct 2022 06:33:25
My guess is that Klopp is trying to keep the squad fresh. Games coming thick and fast, he can do with no more injuries.

2.) 20 Oct 2022 07:08:35
Just one of those things. West Ham aren’t a great side but they are less than the sum of their parts, and have some excellent players. It’s a tough game at any time, but especially so after the euphoria of beating Man City. Last season we faced West Ham after the Carling Cup final and it was a similarly awkward game, with the same eventual scoreline.
Another 1-0 home win is EXACTLY what was needed.

3.) 20 Oct 2022 07:20:56
Op I thought Thiago was a bit sloppy with some of his passing mate. He gave the ball away multiple times and he needs to stop going to the ground in a tackle! But am obviously made up with the win.

4.) 20 Oct 2022 08:00:08
Agreed on the subs here. Allowed WH to get into the game late on and almost snatch a draw. I understand Nunez was feeling a muscle problem but could have just taken him off. TBH it feels odd moaning after we got the 3 points so the decision paid off ultimately but it could have been costly. Fingers crossed we can get a win on Saturday as well!

5.) 20 Oct 2022 08:27:52
It is a good three points after a huge game on Sunday and another injury.

6.) 20 Oct 2022 11:01:24
We were ripe for an emotional letdown vs WH due to how draining the City game was so not surprised with the sloppiness involved in the second half esp. after the subs were made. We are very wounded right now so Klopp has to protect the players and make the substitutions accordingly. Pretty sure he knew we would not be the same in the second half as we were in the first esp with Darwin needing to be taken off so again, it is what it is.

We got the three points and the team gutted this game out to get the win. Also, Klopp said Darwin could still have played on BUT he wasn't going to take any risks with him (can one blame him? ) and took him off. He'll be fine.

First half that was one of the most dominant performances I’ve seen from us live. Just some observations.

Thiago controlled the game in the first half and Hendo was excellent alongside him in that first 45 mins.

Nunez was an absolute beast and it’s clear the crowd have taken to him with chants of Nunez braking out every few minutes.

I think I counted Bobby doing about 8 flicks with 6-7 of them coming off and at least 5 of them not really needed but show boating. That shows the confidence he is playing with but he also got caught out with a pass across our 18 yard box.

Was a strange decision seeing Thiago and Nunez coming off as I thought they were our best players and at the time West Ham were starting to try and get a foot in the game. Once those subs were made West Ham then came back into it.

Jones and Elliot didn’t do anything bad but they also weren’t good. Jones looked really nervous on the ball and played within himself whilst Elliot got caught out a few times allowing West Ham to break.

If it was a boxing match the ref would have stopped it before the 44 min mark. However it’s not and due to a silly challenge and 2nd half panicking in situation Allison was a massive saviour for us and 3 points are huge with them being back to back.

Was in the Anfield road end this time and my recommend would be try to get somewhere else if you want to be able to watch the full game. Especially if you’re taking a child.

I don’t think that Klopp has much choice but to rotate, to avoid over-playing certain people and particularly in midfield.
It’s good management with Thiago and Henderson otherwise we know from experience that muscle injuries are likely to ensue.
It’s like a razor’s edge against the rope, hustling for a living, and we’re living on hope ?.

I am a fan of sport science and its role in elite performance, but I am starting to get a nagging feeling that the team selections and subs are almost always dictated by the medical team recommendations.

Of course I have no proof.

I am also curious to know whether this level of power can go too far and take the psychological edge off of players who now know that the algorithm is going to decide on whether they play or not.

I'll get my tin hat ready.

10.) 20 Oct 2022 12:54:06
Pelican, you don't need proof or a sports sci. degree to know that the player's minutes are being managed. Just look at the subs last night. They all came in at the same time for specific players and IMO, they would have happened regardless of the score of the game at times. Like Fab and Thiago prolly needed to be rested after their City heroics BUT who's going to come in with CJ and Ox just back from injury? So they had to split the time on the pitch. Same with Elliott who split time with Carvalho. And so on.

We are right on the edge physically due to injuries so the players were really pushing themselves physically so instead of actually slating them at every turn (not you), we should be applauding them for giving everything for the shirt IMO, until things get better.

Oli, my observation is beyond this season but as I said, I have no proof.

My point was that if the medics/ sport science are gaining in influence on starting line-ups and subs then that could effect the players psychological performance not to mention the coach's tactical agility.

12.) 20 Oct 2022 16:19:41
Pelican, it's the same thing for all clubs re: effects on players health and psychology whether it be this season, last season or before that, IMO. This is cos Sports science specialists and analysts exist across clubs now so it is standard. We are only feeling it a bit too much right now due to the condensed season and this winter WC being forced down the throats of the players and managers all over the world. Just my take.

Good show of character to come back and win yesterday after going a goal down once again. Made sweeter with how much Newcastle were trying to run the clock down. Thought Elliot had a good game, and the subs made a big impact when they came on.

Really like the look of Carvalho with the short cameos he has had. Would like to see him and Tsimikas start next game.

Perhaps Newcastle Utd can invest some of the Saudi squillions in electrolyte drinks and salt tablets?

2.) 01 Sep 2022 09:35:10
Can’t see many of the Newcastle players going to the World Cup. Clearly they can’t play 2 games in 4 days. And some of them that was actually their first game of the week.

3.) 01 Sep 2022 09:41:25
Or a device that helps their players deal with the forces of gravity, Juicer?

4.) 01 Sep 2022 12:48:00
Or maybe their players should actually work harder at getting fit instead boring everyone with their crappy cramps. Just saying.

We can have Palhinha off them then. Great ball winner. Good on the ball and a bit of a goal threat in the air too.

{Ed002's Note - He is of no interest to Liverpool.}

Fight for his place and earn and start in the team. Looked a big talent at Ajax. Sure Klopp can get the best out of him. Big, energetic and athletic. Like having 2 Szobos.

Would like to see Kelleher leave and get his chance as he deserves it, same with Phillips. Gvardiol or Ndicka could both cover at LB when needed if we sold Tsimikas. Preferably Gvardiol but more realistically Ndicka. They could aslo take the burden off Virgil.
Keita and Ox leaving should free up some high wages. Wouldn’t be against Fabinho, Jota and Matip/ Gomez leaving to try bring in some funds. Hopefully with some good signings and some players returning from their loans we can have a more trimmed down dependable squad next year. Back challenging for titles!

It’s a rumours site mate. Not everything has to be fact. Be a bit boring not to talk about anything line ups or transfers until after they happen.

Trent can replace Endo with Bradley at RB. Think I would prefer to see jota starting than Gakpo. Best finisher we have and good in the air.

Their excuse to not give the goal is they can’t go against protocol and the law after the game is restarted. The laws of the game is when someone is onside it’s a goal. Common sense was needed imo. Decent point today. Feels like points lost tho. Kovacic very lucky to not see a red today. Just shows the inconsistency of refs. But everything is subjective. We’re looking good this season, loads more energy. Macca needs to move further upfield and play to his strengths. Nobody to sit in holding midfield, that’s why everyone was calling for a CDM.

Saka would be the dream replacement for Salah. No chance tho. Maybe Bowen could be a good replacement on the right.

Kimmich would be my first choice in that position. Loads of experience and a world class player imo. Don’t know if it would be possible though.
