Not here to condone Liverpool but to give balance to the truth about what actually happens across numerous clubs.

This is Benficas managers quote today about Chelsea's approach for Enzo.

"What the club is doing who wants Enzo, it's disrespectful against all of us, against Benfica and I cannot accept what they are doing, " said Schmidt.

"To make the player crazy, and then to pretend they can pay the clause and later they want negotiate I think is not what I understand about a good relationship between clubs who maybe want to discuss about the player. ".

Haha, not us for a change!
Fergie and United were horrendous back in the day.

I’m surprised you haven’t been torn apart or called an idiot by a certain people on here for making such comments 1jj. Don’t you know you’re not allowed to suggest that any club other than LFC plays dirty sometimes. (Braces for toxic backlash…???)

Meh. Chelsea playing dirty doesn't make it OK for us or anyone else to break rules.

Is that classed as cheating? If only Chelsea could behave like other clubs hey. the world would be a better place.

To badly paraphrase an oft heard phrase on here "there is a set price and the club know what they need to do to sign the player".

Things certainly seem to have gone downhill since St Roman made his voluntary exit, and after having built up such a superb model for turning kids into a commodity to be sold on for profit.

I’m sure that the comments by the Benfica manager, will have been taken out of context or misrepresented or even fabricated by some journalist who has close links to Liverpool FC. At least I imagine that’s what Chelsea fans might say should there ever be any that visit this site ….

I’m not so sure too much has been done wrong by Chelsea. They certainly didn’t tap the player up.

Thanks Eds, I mean Irish ????.

Irish, with all the best will in the world, I’m struggling to believe your opinion on this one. With respect to the situation in question, I would tend to believe that the Benfica manager may have slightly more insight at the present time.

Chelsea tried to muscle them into selling Enzo (or Harry) to them and it backfired. Now they seem to have dug their hills in right now and either Chelsea pay the fee or jog on. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer club.

It's normal it happens every day as ex players keep on talking about it.

The question is, is it right or wrong by the law of the games? Hence you see ed2 going very hard on it

The reality is fans hardly care what happens behind the scenes. It's all about on the pitch for them.

@Oli, even as we speak, Teddy B and the boys are in touch with Vx4 over a list of acceptable alternatives.

Pretty certain the Benfica manager hasn’t mentioned anything about tapping up their player WDW.

@Irish, I’m also pretty certain that the Benfica manager hasn’t used the phrase ‘tapping up’ either. I suspect he’s aware of the consequences if he did.

@IRISH He doesn't need to mention it! Chelsea have cheated. why can't they act like every other club.

The issue is clear to me WDW. It’s more about the fee and Chelsea’s approach to it. Knowing the transfer fee and offering a lower offer. Nothing whatsoever to do with tapping up imo.

{Ed001's Note - spot on Irish. Benfica are complaining that Chelsea made them think they were going to pay the release clause but Chelsea instead tried to negotiate a lower fee.}

I’d love for that transfer to fall through if they have been mucking around. Just the way it used to happen with us. How does it go? Oh yeah - If Chelsea want the player they know what to do, pay the fee.

Agree with what you say @Irish, in terms of Chelsea trying to haggle Benfica away from their (Benfica’s) clearly stated criteria for selling. But, I also think that there would also be a line of communication between Chelsea and the player (albeit. I’m the player’s agent) . I think that would / is an annoyance for Benfica and the stability of their squad and the impact upon the young lad.

{Ed001's Note - Benfica gave them permission to speak to him, that is why they are annoyed. They gave permission thinking Chelsea were going to pay the full amount in his release clause. That might simply have been an error on their part, it could have been a translation error/misunderstanding, or deliberate misleading on Chelsea's part, but none of us can know that. The irritation they are expressing could simply be because they feel silly for an error. It is quite common for humans to lash out when they feel silly for a mistake they have made themselves and look to blame others.}
