I think if we finish 8th we will be lucky any higher is more than wishful thinking. I have been a Liverpool fan for over 40 years and I can't think of any team playing worse than this season. I don't even know how we are as high as we are, we are truly awful, when you lose 3-0 to wolves who struggle to score one goal a game sums it up. We don't create anything and teams cut through us like under 9 level.
I don't know how this can change but it looks like the players are not playing for Klopp anymore because it does not matter what team he picks what formation it is just the same I just can't wait for this season to be over.

Roy Hodgson’s LFC team was worse I reckon.

Paul Stewart, Julian Dicks, Poulsen, Konchesky, Ruddock's days were all pretty bad.
The psycological aspects of last season's near miss is the main issue (imo) . How devastating to come so close to greatness, with so much hype, and yet to end up so far from greatness with two dodgy cup wins and a poor show in Paris.
Look how Egypts failures affected Mo, its the same thing with the reds (imo) .

Our fixtures aren't too bad until the end of the season and our home form has been good id say 5th or 6th id worry we'll beat a few average on the beach teams though and we'll hear how things are starting to click again and we don't need to spend that much. 0 wins from 10 or 10 the squad needs gutting.

4th was gone a long time ago. I think it’d be better to miss out on that Europa Conference garbage and just have no Europe at all tbh.

I don't buy this, "we came so close to greatness" as an excuse - bs.

We were very lethargic in many a game last season, I think a lot of people forget that.

We're crap this Season, but its been coming, its just that many didn't want to see it.

Teams every year lose out on Winning the PL or CL and actually coming so close could easily have been used as a stepping stone to greater things instead of an excuse for this sh#ep show we find ourselves in.

How long does it take to get over losing out on the league and CL. Is it exactly 12 months or will it go into next season does anyone know?

Rome ?.

That’s what I mean though mate. We keep making out like the great reset will happen in these players heads soon as this season finishes.

But we thought that great reset was also going to happen after Bournemouth, City and Utd games etc. Plus after the World Cup break and Jan transfer window to name a few more.

There’s no guarantee that whatever is wrong with these players that it all clicks back into place come august.

If it’s simply tactics then it saves FSG a fortune in transfers in the summer as we might as well just keep the current squad.

Liverpool being in the conference league I hate the sound of it but would we be the first team to win all 3 European competitions (if we did win it) .

The summer can't come soon enough a big reset for the players some new blood coming in and I believe there will be an actual 3-4 week break.

{Ed025's Note - well you have certainly played like a conference side over the past couple of weeks kloppers...im thinking oldham.. :)

I agree with what you say, JK. There is no silver bullet to our problems. We've fallen from grace like a sack of spuds and we're now playing catch up with Brighton, never mind Arsenal and City.

I can't wait for the season to end. I will be there when it does and I will be there when it starts again.

Love it Ed025, don't worry you'll be one step closer to Oldham next season.

all fun and games ey, tbh I hope you don't go down mate I'd rather a semi decent Everton in the league, I've worked on your new Stadium doing CFD analysis its a bloody good stadium and will be up there as the best up north be a shame to be stuck in the championship!

In terms of playing staff, no, this is obviously not the worst team we have had.

However, I would argue that the quality of the players is the only thing that is keeping us afloat. Tactically, we’re the worst in the league, and yes, even worse than Hodgson.

Hodgson’s Liverpool was dire, dull and backwards, but even he would have known better than to do the things Klopp has done.

That sounds dramatic and unfair, until you write them out and read them back to yourself:

. Change the tactics of a dominant team to the polar opposite of what those tactics were

. Believe that the best way to win football matches was to work less and put in less effort than the opposition

. Retain a high line from the old team, even though its purpose and logic only made sense in the old system

. Persist with said high line for an entire season and act surprised when it costs us a goal every single week

. Move the best forward in your team further away from the goal, and the best crosser in your team further into the middle of the pitch

. Bemoan injuries and bad luck without ever questioning whether instructing your players to try less might have something to do with their durability

. Also bemoan injuries and bad luck while pushing for contracts to be given to aging, injury prone players

. Substitutions and team selections. I will not elaborate any further lest my head explode

. Keep giving Naby Keita chances because your memory doesn’t stretch back as far as the last time you hauled him off in disgust

. Refuse to give younger lads a chance over disappointing senior players, even when you no longer have anything left to lose

. Decide that the old transfer methodology wasn’t good enough and that the only players you would accept would be a handful of players that you and staff took a fancy to, despite your success being built on the contrary

. Torpedo not one but two entire seasons due to insisting upon these players

. Cause disharmony among the transfer staff due to these decisions which results in multiple senior figures leaving

. Do the same thing in the medical department

. Get so attached to your players that you tell the world with pride that they can essentially decide when they want to leave, and you won’t force them out

. Allow your egomaniac assistant manager to release a book about your tactics just before the season starts

. Not sign any workhorse midfielders for almost half a decade, only to then act surprised when the ones you have left can’t play the unrealistic and stupid system you have decided to implement

The one thing Klopp did get right was his interview yesterday, when he admitted that the only reason he is still here is because of the credit he has in the bank. Anybody else, not just in football, but any profession, would be sacked without hesitation for such incompetence.

He has this summer to sort it out but like I’ve said before, if we start the season like we did against Fulham, he won’t be getting any further sympathy from me.

OP, are you sure about that? You must have missed the Hodgson time or King Kenny's first full season on his return, Rafa's final season or BR's first season or some other terrible seasons in the 90's. IMO, The recency bias is heavy on this one.

As for @AW's post, I agree with a lot of those things. Klopp has gambled way too much and a lot of the points made there are actual blind spots that it seems NOBODY within his staff is telling him or sounding the alarm about cos pretty sure if we can see them, his staff and him can see them.

As for him saying he would have been sacked were it not for his credit in the bank, that's just a guy who does NOT lack self awareness and know the realities of top level management. Klopp os essentially saying that he the owner of LFC, he would have sacked "him" by now. Good to know he STILL hasthat humble part of him intact.

Keita has started 3 or 4 games he's been awful but the captain is the one who keeps getting undeserved chances Keita was better than him last season too.

21.) 06 Apr 2023
06 Apr 2023 15:10:54
OnKiss "Keita was better than Hendo"? When did that ever happen? How on earth do you work that out whereas Naby has been injured majority of last season? Seriously, how is that even possible to conclude with next to NO sample size in terms of amount of appearances to compare. Hendo played 57 games last season. Pretty sure Naby played WAY less than that BUT he was better than Hendo?

Listen you can hate on Hendo all you want and that's fine BUT do NOT mention him in the same breathe as that fraud, grade A flop that is Naby. Sorry, that's not on. Oh and one more thing. One can easily argue that a good reason why Fab's, Milner's and Hendo's legs have gone was partly due to your boy not being arsed to keep himlself fit and available for selection to give them a blow. Hence, they had to play way MORE minutes than required. Just a thought.

22.) 06 Apr 2023
06 Apr 2023 16:49:30
There’s absolutely no argument to be had in regards to LFC careers between Naby and Hendo.

However I think both did play major parts last season but Hendo (3,876) did play almost twice the minutes Naby (2,083) with Hendo featuring 57 times (as Oli correctly pointed out) with 3 goals and 7 assists compared to Nabys 40 appearances and 4 goals and 3 assists.

surely our co-efficient is good enough now that we can opt out of the conference league?

Definitely been a strange season

On the one hand our home form has actually been decent, top 3 or 4 in the league for that

On the other hand, our away form has been simply shocking

What is the difference? Our form has just been completely inconsistent from one game to the next. I mean we have absolutely smashed teams this season, Man Utd and Bournemouth, but we have not carried that good gorm forward to the next game

Big issues for me this season are fitness and tactics

We used to press everyone, outrun everyone - Liverpool looked simply fitter than everyone else and kept a high tempo game going for 90 minutes plus again and again - this season, they don't press as a team and don't cover nearly as much ground as they used too, and don't look like they have the fitness to do so

Tactics, ah what is going on here? They've stopped pressing but still keep the high line? They just get carved open time and time again

What has happened the team? I get a loss in form for a few, but so many? Are they being asked to do something different than previously? If so, it ain't working

What is Trent being asked to do differently?
Henderson? Looks a shadow of himself this season?
Robertson? Odd one, hasn't been his best but still looks like he genuinely gives his all - others don't

Weird, weird season.
