For Europa Lesgue, if we progress co continuously, at some point we will face our old boy Xabi Alonso who is doing superbly with Leverkusen. Mixed feelings because i want Liverpool to beat them, yet i also want Cabi to impress Klopp so much, klopp recommends him as successor.

I would never want Liverpool to lose, ever. We wouldn't buy a player who only impresseses when playing against us and likewise, we wouldn't want a manager who does that too. Xabi has many other games to which he can audition to be our manager after Klopp.

Well any sort of recommendation won’t be based on 2 games like. I’m sure they might look at how well he’s doing in the Bundesliga too. Just a thought ??.

Irish Rover, Kopp does get impressed enough at games to make recommendations. Of course its not just 2 games but Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen is sitting top of Bundesliga, above Bayern Munich. Now that will surely hit a nice raw nerve, as Klopp did same with BVB.

Off topic a little guys and I apologise in advance IFAB are looking to bring in sin bins for things like dissent all they have to do regards dissent is have the officials be more consistent and deal with it as they should also with the keepers having the ball in possession for something like 10 or more seconds before they put it into play they are looking g to give corners instead again have the officials be more consistent and informed the 6 seconds they are getting to complacent common fault is consistent they get away with far too much at the top levels opinions please.

Leekuanyew, Im curious. Is it too much to ask that we actually allow Alonso to actually finish the season and see where he ends up with Leverkusen in the league and Europa League before you start your campaign to get him to replace Klopp? Serious question.

It would be brilliant if we did play against them, though. Great to see Xabi doing so well, and it would be brilliant to welcome him back for a match at Anfield.

I'm not quite grasping the question / statement here. is the dilemma that OP would want Xabi to do as well as possible ahead of possibly replacing Klopp?
if that's the thought, I can't see how Xabi winning or losing against Klopp would help or harm his credentials.

Was lucky enough to be at the game last night and at our two previous home Europa games and I have to say our opposition so far have been pretty poor (whilst their fans have been great) .
It’s a massive step down in quality from the PL and CL and the fact we made 9 changes from the City side and still won 4-0 in second gear shows that.
Europa this season actually allows us to utilise the full squad and blood plenty of youngsters and looking at the opposition that might drop in from the CL and that’s likely to qualify from their groups we’re clearly the strongest team in the comp and hopefully come the end of the season it’s trophy ticked off by Klopp.

I've been to the last 2 Europa games, JK, and I agree about the opposition. But, like you say, the fans of Toulouse and LASK have been superb. I can't remember a game where so many people left so early because its was so cold and the game became a none event - I didn't, and have only just thawed out.
Good to be in the last 16 and avoid the extra game. Dublin hotels are being booked already, though that may be a tad premature.

bemused by OP post, very happy for Xabi to be doing so well as a manager loved the guy as a player and wish him the best but if they come up against us, I don't give a flying F*** about them and want Liverpool to smash them 10-0 in both legs.

Much ado about nothing. The same siuation happened with Gerrard when we played Aston Villa (and he too was being considered as a possible future replacement for Klopp at the time) and he got a warm welcome at Anfield upon entry and that was it.
No need to contort yourself into deep emotional turmoil for God's sake, over such a thing.

You guys are brutal. just sounds like OP likes Xabi as do most LFC supporters and wants to see him do well.

Red Mob, not harsh. Leek has suggested he may want us to get beaten just so that Klopp recommends Xabi as his successor.
That’s the crazy bit.
Most fans are impressed with how Xabi has taken to management, but we would never want our own team not to do well.

@Faith, somewhere in there I think the idea is that if Leverkusen beat Liverpool in a game then it’s a case of 'The king (Jurgen) is dead, long live the king (Xabi)'.
@ArAy, it’s a little bit different in one respect, insofar as Xabi looks like he has the makings of a good manager whereas, as my long departed Grandad would have said, Stevie G 'couldn’t train white mice'.

WDW3 - that’s the most ridiculous analogy I’ve read on here.
18.) 02 Dec 2023
02 Dec 2023 10:43:24
WDW, my point is that it's kinda early appointing Xabi Alonso as "king" already. Put in 2-3 stellar seasons in a row, and then we've got something to rave and dream about.

Zeddicus, I knowingly did not address the part cos frankly, I lost the will to address such nonsense, the way you did. You're a lot better than I am, I'm afraid.

@Zeddicus and @Oli - I fail to see where OP said he wanted us to lose. If you go back and read, he said he wanted Xabi to impress Klopp enough. this is why I said you guys are brutal. You come on here and get after anyone whose opinion isn't your own and make up sh! t to prove your points and then act like you are the best and biggest LFC supporters. Xabi can still do well and LFC win - they are not mutually exclusive.
